This is our OOC for Death's Tear.
IC can be located here.
Plot The story begins in a middle of a war between the gigantic empire Xian, which seeks world domination, and the rather minuscule country of Alterria to the North. Alterria is an important country as it borders the Netherlands, the vast northern lands of non-human races, monsters, and most importantly, where the Gate is located. The Gate leads to the Netherplane, the place of the dead, and should one travel far enough along the road, one will find Death's Citadel.
Alterria proves to be a match for Xian only because formidable, stark cliffs surround the Netherplane all about and loop down and around Alterria to include the country in its protection. While the ordinarily impassible cliffs are less steep and contain ragged paths around Alterria, they are still a terrifying battlefield. In addition, Effluvia (the Alterrian Queen) is a military genius. Therefore even though Xian outnumbers Alterrian forces more than forty to one, the Alterrians hold Xian off.
Seeking to throw the battle in Xian's favor, Maltinaz (the emperor of Xian) sent a spy past Alterria, into the Netherlands, through the gate, and to Death to collect one of Death's Tears, a mysterious poison. The spy poisoned Effluvia, effectively downing their most important general.
The only cure for a black tear is a white tear, both shed by Death. Unfortunately, not much more about the tears is known than that. In additional misfortune, every last able man and woman is at the battlefront, and cannot be spared to quest for a tear. Therefore it's up to whoever is left to heal Effluvia before she expires and save the country - the outcasts, the criminals, and those who owe Effluvia and Alterria nothing.
Setting This takes place in a semi-medieval setting, semi in that slight anachronisms will pop up here and there. Its definite setting is a fantasy world - all things fantasy go, particularly in the realm of magic and beasts. In addition, concepts such as Death have physical forms. The other settings include Alterria, and far more primarily the Netherlands, dark plains that contain a few forests and bogs and mountains, filled with dangers of one type or another, and the Netherplane, also known as the Other Side, the unknown land of the dead.
Rules I apologize in advance for any mistakes I might make here. With total understanding that this is meant to be a non-restricted site, I would still like to request nothing sexually explicit or too overly graphic goes on in the main thread. Because I personally cannot handle it. Everything else is a go, with regards to the standard rules of roleplaying. (Y'know, godmodding and all that crap.) That is all.
NPCs All NPCs listed here are controlled by Rii. They are to be regarded as regular PCs when interacting/fighting with them.
Death: Lord of the Netherplane and Keeper of Souls. The legends of what Death is are mixed from nation to nation but the popular Alterrian belief is that Death is a skeleton in a black robe and cloak, bearing a scythe in one hand and an hourglass in another. (The popular belief in Xian is that Death is a shadow with glowing eyes). Not much is known about Death, aside from that he is one of the Immortals, one of the concepts of existence granted a physical form. Some legends (in most countries) speak of his wife, Lady Death, a few (elven, dwarven, demon, and fairy) speak of his relation to other Immortals (such as Life and Pain, brother and cousin respectively), but as to what Death himself is like is shrouded in mystery. Aside from that, it is well known by all that Death lives in a black crystal citadel with a skull motif in the Netherplane, and that he rules over the other "Dark" Immortals. Lady Death: More mysterious than her husband, legends of who and what Lady Death really is tend to be far more scrambled than any other legend. Some say she's a human who wanted immortality and tricked Death into marrying her to gain it, some say she's a lost soul Death fell in love with, some declare she's an Immortal, perhaps Chance, who married Death, some say she's not really Death's wife and is just a priestess dedicated to him, some say she's a wild and terrible beast who is actually Death's pet, not his wife. The beliefs that she's his wife, in one form or another, tend to be more widespread.
-Rivals- Kash: The leader of a well-known bounty hunting group, he is regarded with caution by other bounty hunters and slayers (bounty hunter elitists who specialize in killing one specific genus of beast). When it comes to the general population, Kash and his band don't have much notoriety but among other warriors, they are practically famous. Kash is a tall man who tends to dress in neutral colors, brown in particular. He seems friendly enough and only lets his more vicious and ruthless side show when anyone else challenges him, gives him competition, or attacks him or his companions. His primary skill lays in mixing unique potions, poisons, and the like and using a crossbow and syringe-like darts to shoot his enemies full of specially chosen concoctions. While each concoction tends to be specially suited for any particular enemy and Kash's aim is formidable, the crossbow takes some time to load. Kash also uses a metal throwing ring, enchanted to cut through most anything. Zab: An extraordinarily queer fellow who in appearance looks like a man stretched out. He stands over seven feet tall and is incredibly skinny and rather tube-shaped. A white coat with a tall collar sheaths his body from beneath his nose to his wrists and ankles, buttoned down past his knee. Beneath are a pair of black pants, boots, and gloves. He also wears a rather large pair of black spectacles which hide most of his face above his nose, leaving his forehead and tall, spiky orange-red hair uncovered. Zab and Kash are incredibly close, and it seems that only Kash can communicate with Zab as Zab never speaks. Instead, the tall man moves his hands in a series of gestures similar to sign language, though it almost seems to be made-up. Zab understands spoken English. As for how Zab attacks, magic is his only weapon. The mage is incredibly slow to move (especially with his legs bound to the knee by his coat) but his magic is formidable. OOC knowledge: Zab is from a race of humanoids who gain magic in proportion to their need. The greater their need, the more magic they are allotted. Which isn't to say that he's unbeatable in the slightest. He's allotted a certain amount of magic for a man - that man might be very skilled or a novice, but the man's skill does not much affect how much magic Zab is allotted to fight a man. It differs more in enemy type, not skill. Mito: A mighty minotaur. Mito's blend of cow and human stands with being definitely cow from the waist down, tail included, almost definitely a barrel-chested man in the torso and arms (the hair that grows up from his pelvis and covers most of his chest is cow hair) and a nearly even mixture of both in his face and head. Bull horns sprout from wild, stiff brown-red hair, his nose is slightly elongated and flat but in the middle of his face, his eyes wide but in the front of his face, mouth below his nose. Mito uses an enourmous war hammer. His special skill is agility; despite wielding a gigantic weapon, he's quicker than one would expect. Mito has more fighting experience than any of the others; before he joined Kash, he belonged to a breeder in Xian who raised him to fight him in Xian's monster Colosseum. Trae: A young shape-shifter. His natural form is a thin, gangly teenage boy with pale skin, freckles, mild acne, long, unkempt red hair and gleaming amber eyes filled with dark malice. He tends to wear baggy, ill-fitting clothing. Trae is able to shape-shift into any non-human form from a puppy to a small dragon. Being an adolescent himself, every form he shifts into is in its adolescence; when he shifts into a Wurm, rather than being a massive, terrifying creature, he's rather short and small, as an infant Wurm. Filled with a fiery temper and used to rejection until Kash found him, Trae is one to fly off the handle easily. He'd rather attack and ask questions later, if ever. Of the four, Trae is by far the least disciplined and often Kash has to bark orders repeatedly to get him to obey. The boy seems totally untamable and out of control. However, Trae holds immense respect for Kash and listens to him.
Character Skeleton: User: Name: Race: Age: Bio: Weapons: Magic: Quirks: Reason for Going: Appearance:
Anything after weapons (aside from appearance) is optional. I always leave out 'personality' from character skeletons because it is my belief that one should not tell personality, but show it. We don't need to be told your personality, we'll SEE it in action when we roleplay! Also, one's bio tends to tell a lot about a character.
Characters: User: Rii Name: Zeeszrom Race: demon-elf hybrid Age: 87 (youngish for a demon OR an elf) Bio: Zeeszrom's mother was a 'homely' light elf who lived her days in sorrow in her colony, as all the other elves looked down on her 'ugliness' (she was ugly for an elf, but still pretty for a human). One day, a hellion attacked the colony and set to destroying it. Before he'd gotten very far, Zeeszrom's mother offered herself as a companion to the demon in exchange for her peoples' homes and lives. He accepted. A few decades later, the elf was sent back to her people, impregnated - the demon did not want to have to bear the responsibility of a child - only to be rejected by the other elves for carrying demon spawn, rather than being praised for saving them. Zeeszrom's mother bore him all the same and loved him as her own despite his demonic appearance. She home schooled him (of course) and died when he was 30, not quite an adult in maturity. After his mother died, Zeeszrom began a life of running, since everyone wanted to slay him, thinking he was a horrible demon. Eventually he managed to pick up bounty hunting and earned a reputation as a "tame" demon, a title which only helped him in that civilized folk no longer tried to kill him on sight. He is still generally rejected as a monster. Weapons: An elven sword with a phoenix-shaped hilt, capable of being heated to incredible temperatures without melting, and a red-leather hellion's whip capable of being ignited without being burned. Zeeszrom is more proficient in his whip than his sword, but he's quite skilled with both. Magic: pyromancy and photomancy - he can call flames on command and direct them with mere willpower, and he can control the concentration of light in an area. Photomancy in general is not a very useful magic although, being a magic of light elves, it grants Zeeszrom resistance to holy or pure magics and objects, ordinarily lethal or very harmful to demons. Quirks: Zeeszrom never uses conjugations. He also loves butterflies and poetry. Reason for Going: In hopes of gaining respect as a good member of society, Zeeszrom leaves on the quest. Appearance: Zee Colors: Coal black hair with red streaks, scarlet skin, green eye, yellow horns and nails, black shirt, blue coat with gold filigree. Please ignore the notes on the side - it was a bit of concept art. He stands at 6'4". User: ParadoxInABox Name: Rajah Race: Baku Age: 100 years Bio: Rajah's birth set up the rest of her life for her. She was not her father's child. Instead, Rajah was born out of sin after her mother had an affair with a stranger. It was a scandalous moment when Rajah's small head was revealed from her mother's womb with red hair, a feature that no one from either family had. Her family was of a somewhat high status and her mother was forced to give up the child to an orphanage, stating that her "child was lost in a miscarriage". Rajah grew up in this orphanage, learning to loathe the world she lived in as she discovered her supernatural powers. She slid in and out of the minds of the other hopeful children, and seeing how they dreamed of families, blessed them by taking it all away. They didn't need to dream of something that would never happen. It was better for them never to hope for foolish things. In adolescence, Rajah realized she could do so much more with her dream-walking than just taking away childish wishes. She could take the knowledge that was unprotected within people's dreams and use it to her advantage. By sneaking in and stealing people's dreams and nightmares, Rajah learned of their wants, fears, and what they possessed that she could sell. She used these vulnerable dreams as a way of manipulation, by promising them all they dreamed of in exchange for a small fee. She became the perfect con-artist. As well, the mind seemed to be the safe to all the treasures one held, and once inside? Rajah could sneak into homes and steal precious items from safes, hidden rooms and boxes easily. People finally caught wind of the strange happenings, of people losing their ability to dream and came to fear the "devourer" as they called Rajah, though she was never found out. In fact, for almost a hundred years, Rajah continued her crimes almost unpunished until she made one mistake and was caught in the act of trying to steal from one of the assistants of the Queen herself. Weapons: Rajah carries a three ring punch dagger, for lethal and precise stabs to vital organs, as well a belt of sharp, medium sized poisoned daggers that cause the victim to hallucinate. As people can pretty much tell: she loves, and is skilled with, daggers. Magic: Rajah can slip into people's minds while they are unconscious and devour their dreams and nightmares in the form of a tiger. This gives her insight into their deepest desires and she uses this to manipulate as well as steal, since many secrets come out when others sleep. She can do this while asleep or mediating. Quirks: Acts much like a cat; she hates water, loves milk and things with bells. Reason for Going: Upon sentencing, Rajah was given two choices: Help in the quest to save the queen, or be executed. Her choice was quite clear... Appearance: Rajah User: Bad Wolf! Name: Ephirel Race: Demon Age: 53 Bio: Ephirel is quite young where demons are concerned, but he is of a different breed than your standard hellion. For most of his life, he was contracted to serve a priestess in a very occult-driven village. He was treated as a god, and his ego certainly flared up quite a bit during that time. But he was naive for a demon and really should have done more research into the rituals the villages performed, particularly with those they hailed as being gods. Ephirel certainly wasn't the first demon to have been contracted by one of the village priestesses, but he would be the last. After being forced to go through with a ritual that resulted in his eyes being gouged out, he went on a rampage and killed everyone in the village, including the priestess he had been serving. Unfortunately, breaking the terms of the contract resulted in him being unable to consume her soul, so that entire episode of his life was hardly worth it. He was now permanently blind, and he didn't even get a soul to eat in order to even somewhat compensate for that. Since that incident, he's been wandering aimlessly, trying to figure out how to continue with his life. Though his other senses have compensated for the loss of his eyes, he is still a great deal weaker than he had been before. Thinking about that village is enough to make him fly into another murderous rage, and he's a bit of a loose cannon in that regard. Weapons: Anything he can get his hands on, but he usually just uses hand-to-hand combat. Considering that he needs to use his sense of touch primarily in a fight. Magic: Ephirel can do some minor little tricks using his demonic abilities. For instance, making flowers bloom before their time, making himself heavier or lighter, or walking on water. Minor things like that. But being a demon, he is far faster, more agile, more durable, and stronger than a human. Quirks: Ephirel is quite touchy-feely, unsurprisingly. Of all of his senses, his sense of touch is most acute. And he will touch anything. Reason for Going: Ephirel really doesn't have anything better to do with his life. Honestly, he's hoping to get himself killed on this little journey. But if he lives, then that's fine too. At least he'll be hailed as a hero. Maybe then he'll stop feeling sorry for himself. Appearance: Ephirel Colors/Notes: Black hair instead of white. Black fingernails. Darkly-colored clothing, and it's a bit fancier than depicted in the picture. He likes to dress well. And sadly he often requires help with that... As for the blindfold, he takes it off if he gets into a fight. Terror is a weapon that he uses well, and nothing is scarier than a demon with two empty eye sockets that seem to have a blood-colored glow from within. In addition to his human form, he has a more demonic form that includes fangs, clawed fingernails, gray-ish skin, and a creepy black aura. When his temper gets out of control, his shadow shifts so it looks like dark fire. that especially happens when he is in his demonic form. His hair also grows longer in that form, though it remains black. User: Third Time Name: Sevink, aka Smiling Jack Race: Wendigo (formerly human) Age: 23 (he thinks) Bio: According to the judge in Sevink's recent trial, he was born without a soul. It would certainly explain much about his life. His earliest memories are of surviving alone on the city streets. He remembers no parents to watch over him. He remembers no friends, only other street orphans competing for food. He does remember the blood. Sevink's childhood was one of fighting for scraps, and Sevink fought to kill. Somewhere along the way, Sevink resorted to cannibalism to survive. During one of cold winters, starvation a constant companion, the child Sevink simply decided that his own survival was worth any price. As Sevink grew older, he took to thievery. Although he never joined the Thieves' Guild and never took jobs like most professional thieves, he made a decent living. Despite his new income, he never left behind his darker habits. His handiwork, performed in dark alleys and seedy brothels, was dubbed the work of "Smiling Jack," thus named by a terrified populace for the disturbing bite marks left in the corpses found by the city Watch. Finally captured a few weeks ago, he was was sentenced to hang by the neck until dead. When the hangman pulled the level, the crowd expected a snap and a quick death. What they saw instead was a body dangling from a noose, laughing at them. Three days he hung by the neck, laughing and swearing at all within earshot. At some point in the past years, Sevink's ceased to be human, and became a wendigo, a creature of cannibalism and rage, nearly unkillable by normal means. While he was hanging, the Queen was poisoned. When the plan to send people to recover the cure for her, someone decided that an unkillable monster would be a perfect choice for the mission. He was offered a pardon if he succeeds, provided he does not lapse back into his old ways, or an execution by burning if he refused. Weapons: Sevink collects blades of all kinds, for different jobs. Stilettos for armored enemies, long daggers for fat victims, flensing knives for skinning a kill, scalpels for removing choice bits of meat, machetes for dangerous victims, and others that he has created himself. He carries them rolled up in a long piece of black leather, lined with felt, and simply buckles the ones he thinks he will need to his belt. Magic: As a wendigo, Sevink has little actual magic. However, he becomes harder and harder to kill, the more intelligent creatures he consumes. An attacker would basically have to "kill" him once for every victim. At his current point, nothing short of being reduced to ash or hacked to bits repeatedly would do the trick. He likes to think of it as "Saving up lives. Like a cat, but I can take other people's too." In addition, wendigos are naturally tough, strong, and fast, but no more than an extraordinarily fit human. Senses as sharp as any predator and a racial aptitude for climbing and jumping allow wendigos to stalk their prey, and their shark-like teeth usually make short work of their victims once they pounce. Quirks: Morbidly afraid of starving. Uncomfortable in direct sunlight. Reason for Going: Sevink was given the choice of being burned at the stake or going. His well developed sense of self-preservation led him to go. He was not counting on the magical measures taken to ensure that he saw the mission through, however. Appearance: Pale skin and sunken eyes give Sevink an unhealthy appearance. His hair, white since he turned, is usually worn back, out of his eyes. It's thin on the sides, and gives him an oddly streamlined look. he favors white and black clothes, and sees anything beyond these stark contrasts as frivolous. Picture User: Everlasting Nirvana Name: Rajin Stratum Race: Aile ( A humanoid creature being born to humans. This occurrence only happens rarely.) Age: 157 Bio: He was born in a flourishing merchant town with upwards of a thousand inhabitants. His family was an upper class of merchants and were among the richest in the town. At the age of ten his parents mysteriously disappeared one night among blood curdling screams. For the next five years he was passed around among the elite merchants in the town. Any one who got close to him soon disappeared. The law enforcers soon began to think the mysterious disappearances were the boys fault. On his sixteenth birthday he was imprisoned for the safety of the town. He was allowed one meal a day and no one was to visit him. Soon the other prisoners began to disappear amid screams. The towns people chopped it up to be tests conducted on the prisoners and the guards thought the prisoners had just escaped. After one hundred years in the prison he was let out. The guards had forgotten what he was kept in there for and decided they could no longer hold him. He didn't look a day over thirty when he was released and this baffled everyone there. Within a weeks time the whole town was dead with no traces of of the missing people. He sat alone in his parents old house and waited. The screams could be heard echoing through the empty halls of the houses. The town soon fell into decay and resembled a ghost town. He soon grew bored with the town and decided to leave. He just began to adventure taking out lone travelers with extreme discretion. Word soon spread of the disappearances but no one knew who was committing the crimes. He began to grow tired of his so called talent and began to look for a way to rid himself of it. When he came across a palace scribe that he used his talent on he heard of the Tear. This intrigued him and he decided he would go look for it either himself or with the group that was looking for it. Weapons: His body and a Bo Staff. (He is a master of mushu and uses only his body and his staff.) Magic: The Vanishing: A skill that manifests it self early in Ailes lives. When the power is used the user gains strength and the knowledge the victim had. Quirks: Reason for Going: Appearance: He is humanoid in appearance. The only defining feature that marks him different from the human race are his multicolored eyes. Each eye has four colors red green blue and yellow. The colors swirl to the middle giving his eyes a striking look. Other then his eyes he resembles a very well built human male. His hair is long and brown. He stands at 6'5'' and is heavily built. He wears a simple leather jerkin and brown cotton pants along with brown sandals.

Wolf - Excellent. I like it a lot.
Hrm, suggestion? In mah story, one of the characters (human polymorphed into a spectral beast) went in hopes of stealing the tear after they got it and using it on himself to turn back into a human. Perhaps Ephriel might have similar intents? A white tear certainly could heal his eyes, if anything could...
Okay, someone help me out. The imgs hate me here. I have Zee's pic on both photobucket and DA...how do I get it on here?

User: Third Time
Name: Sevink, aka Smiling Jack Race: Wendigo (formerly human) Age: 23 (he thinks)
Bio: According to the judge in Sevink's recent trial, he was born without a soul.
His handiwork, performed in dark alleys and seedy brothels, was dubbed the work of "Smiling Jack," thus named by a terrified populace for the disturbing bitemarks left in the corpses found by the city Watch.
He was offered a pardon if he succeeds, provided he does not lapse back into his old ways, or an excecution by burning if he refused.
However, he becomes harder and harder to kill, the more intellegent creatures he consumes.

Yeah, that is what I mean. Oh, hey! My picture has started working. It wasn't before, when I first posted. It was like "posted picture" instead of showing the actual picture.
Freaking...thing...that hates me...
Should I post NPCs? There will probably be at least six major NPCs to look out for...since I will PROBABLY use rivals against us.
Time - Excellent. Our group is pretty epic, if I do say so. I think that was everyone, wasn't it?

Cool...I've been working on a drawing of the rivals for a long time, just have one guy left, so I'll add a pic then.
I'll make an IC as soon as Bad Wolf confirms her demon's motive for the quest.

I'm going to leave it as it is for now and let the idea of using one of Death's Tears to mend his eyes come to him in the roleplay. Character development and all that...

SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG! I wen tot make the thread and then life bombarded me! I came home with plans to make it but I got a letter I had to read, then I wound up taking a nap (still not sure how it happened ^^; ), woke and realized I needed to catch up on homework, got a phone call from the leader of my favorite school Club asking to help advertise during Involvapalooza (club JOIN ME! event) and spent the last two days wearing medieval garb for practically 48 hours straight, either advertising Club, going to class, or other important meetings. And then I was like, crap, I gotta make that thread! And my homework was like LOL NOPE! and then Club was like EVENTS YO!!! And I was like @_@ Must go to events!...Yeah, I was busy. Sorry guys.
Anyways, the thread is up now and I apologize LOTS for the delay.

That it is. And I'm so behind on homework, thanks to like...well mostly it's my own fault, I'm a terrible procrastinator. But then I plan on doing it at a later date and then something important HAPPENS then so my procrastinator's success is thwarted. Boooo.

Sure, why not? We're only JUST outside the city gates Besides, I like a group of 5 far more for this roleplay. And also it sounds as though your character would NOT be a criminal and while criminal characters are cool and all...I think Zeeszrom is going to have a heart attack
