![]() Welcome to the Lords of Liam in IC thread! OOC here. September 10th, 5:56 p.m. A Friday. The head of FaustCo is away on business today, with a return date not yet set. Liam seems unaware and has gone on with it's usual corporate bustle, while the leaves of the trees transform for the oncoming cold. The beautiful skyscrapers of ZeitCo and FaustCo rise up above the city like watchtowers. It's a simple sign, whether the masters of these buildings are close at hand or not, there is no question of who the elite of the city are. In the streets the Faust Mob and Zeit Mob are in their usual struggle, balancing business and attempts at sabotage as they have since their birth. All seems normal, at least for now, but one should always be alert. The big city is an unpredictable place. |

"Once more, Sophia," the hardened conductor called out from his podium, tapping it with his baton, as the others in the university's orchestra collectively slumped in their seats, their instruments placed in their laps. The room was slightly tense from having listened to the same song the entire time without getting to rehearse the next song in the line up for tomorrow's concert. It was almost four (they had been there since 2), and still the conductor repeated the same line. Once more, Sophia. The woman in question, blonde and frustrated, sat at the piano to the right of the rest of the orchestra. The piano stood in front of her as black and sleek as the hair upon the conductor's head. Her fingers seemed restless, ready to touch the ivory keys and yet too frantic once they did. Her mind was scattered, frazzled, and frustrated with her performance. Why? Sophia was the heir to ZietCo and to a mob that was tied to her father's company. Sophia sighed, running a hand through her wavy blonde hair as her blue eyes ran over the keys again. She'd have to focus. This was, after all, her final year in college. Sophia had everything going for her so far. She was just in reach of her Masters in both Musical Theory and Business thanks to double-majoring in the two. It had always been her plan to take up music if she didn't become the heir to the company, while making sure she had all her bases covered. Of course, this was a brilliant idea seeing as now, she was to follow in her father's footsteps. Sophia's fingers gently landed upon the keys and began to play, letting her worries seep out. She wasn't going to let this mob ordeal mess up her music, her exam. The room around her dissolved as she played the full extent of Moonlight at the consent of the conductor. Sophia tried not to let it get ahead of her, tried not to be too frantic in her movements and let the music speak for itself. It amused her slightly how the conductor had picked this song out of all of Beethoven's pieces for her to play. Did he realize how the song matched her life? She ignored the stares of her peers, concentrating her body and soul on the piece, her body moving with the music and not caring. The piano was her outlet for all the mayhem of being her father's daughter. Of losing her mother, losing her freedom, and yet still gaining a wonderful life in the process. There were times when she wanted to complain and scream, but she then remembered the sacrifices her father made- no matter his ill decisions, she loved him. Though, the constant security (including those in the room with her even now) was something she'd never get over. Thankfully, she'd be able to change that once she was the head of the company. As the song came to an end, Sophia let her shoulders fall slowly and she glanced up at the conductor expectantly. "Turn to the next composition," he said calmly, only letting a small smile appear on his lips for Sophia as the rest of the group finally sat up, instruments ready, and pages turned. ~~~ Sophia stood from the piano, her body grumbling to her that home was a wonderful word at the moment. Ah yes, she was tired and ready to head out of practice, ready to leave before the conductor could even think of making her rehearse her piece again. Sophia grabbed up her purse and glanced over at the security her father had follow her around like bulldogs, gave them a smile and started for the door behind all her other classmates. Zimmerman Zelig Zeitmann was currently in sitting on his desk, typing excessively on his keyboards. The turn of the century brought magnificent things, magnificent inventions. He took advantage of acquiring the newest and best technological advancements, especially those that involved security. In front of him, he watched diligently as he looked at the several computer screens in front of him; finance, marketing, personnel, business deals, his stock, communication with his investors, all done thanks to this wondrous machine. There was even a little video feed that played in one of the corners of a screen. A beautiful young woman playing the piano to one of his personal favourite songs; she played beautifully. Security was outfitted with a tiny camera, so he could hear and see everything. He saw his daughter grow up in this fashion. He saw it all unfold before his very eyes; he witnessed his cute little daughter turn into a ravishing smart independent young woman. There was no doubt she’d be the heir to his double kingdom. He’d stop and glance at it once and awhile, only to proceed typing and working. As CEO, he had a very hands-on approach, he was far less trusting then his father used to be, especially when it came to his mob. Zeitmann grabbed his ‘special’ cellular phone, opened it to contact Kevin Martens. The phone was ‘special’ in that it only connected with its counterpart, and only if a 9 digit code was entered. Should the 9 digit code fail to be entered, the cellphone will short circuit making tracing absolutely impossible. There was also a landline that connected from here to one of his warehouses, but Martens was often on the move, much to Zeitmann’s annoyance. There was a special shipment coming in, Chinese immigrants coming to port with several gifts. Zeitmann wanted a report on the preparations and a certain rat to be exterminated. His eyes caught the hour on his computer screen and sighed as he quickly typed an apology to his daughter’s cell phone. “Will be Late”. Time flies so fast when you’re trying to control two empires at once. |

He's a better werewolf then i could ever wish to be." Diego: "I can't control what i feel, querida mia. This spark will become a big lively fire. It will consume me, it will consume you and everyone around us, and once nothing is left, new life will spring eternal." Wade: "She made me love her before she sired me. Kevin Martens sat with one leg over the other, taking a drag of the cigar held between two fingers. He was seated in a comfortable leather swivel chair, and before him was his massive desk--which was neat and orderly, almost unnaturally so. Small stacks of papers, some with writing, were sparsely placed across the surface, and there was a single, ornate metal pen on one side. Martens had a computer, but not here; he preferred his work by hand. Certainly, typing was faster, but as far as Martens was concerned, typing files on a computer was just giving the world another way to find those files. And so he used computers for very little, and certainly not for the most important work. His cold stone eyes scanned over the various papers, and he reached a hand to pick one up--when Martens' cell phone vibrated in one of the many pockets of his black overcoat. A distasteful expression crossed the scarred surface of Martens' face; he only had the cell phone at Zeitmann's specific request, and anyway only Zeitmann would call Martens anyway. Reaching a hand into the pocket and withdrawing the phone, he flipped it open, placed it to the side of his face and, in the cold, uncaring manner his deep voice often spoke in, said, "Yes?" managing to fit boredom, apathy, and irritation in the one word. |

Zeitmann didn’t answer right away. He simply tapped his keyboard several times, and one of the screens was changed to a video feed that showed Martens sitting down at his desk enjoying a cigarette. People wondered why Zeitmann refused to leave the control of his mob to someone else… Martens could try and get rid of his tiny cameras as much as he wanted, but Zeitmann will always be watching, and will always know what goes on in his territory. “The shipment will arrive at midnight tonight.” Zeitmann said simply as he got up from his chair, and peeked through the closed blinds of his office into the outside world. He could clearly see the FaustCo tower from here. He gave it a silent glare as he continued. “I hear Faust will try and intercept. I want you there. Bring me back a Faust man, and I want you to fire Mr. Ehrlichmann. I’ve already set up a decoy, so don’t worry about the authorities.” Zeitmann sat back down in front of his desk and continued to type as he kept a close eye on Martens. He was a very useful man. He made his way to the top in such a gruesome and bloody manner. The Mooks were fearful of him and he had great notoriety; he was all and all the perfect scapegoat. Should anything happen, should they get caught Martens will take all the blame as the “Mob Boss”, even if he was just a mere pawn. Should he last long enough; he’ll be given a very special role in the upcoming start of his daughter’s new reign. |

Martens said nothing for a moment, placing the cigar between his cold, chapped lips as if in deep contemplation. Ehrlichmann--one of Martens' soldiers. A decent one, but unfortunately Ehrlichmann had a tendency to put his own spin on Martens' orders; and that led more often than not to mistakes. Martens himself had been planning to have Ehrlichmann killed eventually anyway. In Martens' squad of soldiers, failure did not mean removal from the mob. To be fired from Martens' group meant death. "Ehrlichmann will be dealt with," Martens replied in a voice that suggested he was doing it by his own will, not because Zeitmann ordered it. There was something of an accent to it--something like a strange blend of a German and Italian accent. "My group will be present at the shipment. If you have a specific Faust member you want, say so." That was how Martens did business--terse and to the point. Martens had a nagging suspicion that Zeitmann may have set up cameras in this warehouse--the thought infuriated him greatly. But he was able to keep that in check; behind the apathetic expression of his scarred face there was no indication that he felt anything. And anyway, Martens didn't plan for Zeitmann to be in power long, not if Martens had his way--and he would. It would, perhaps, take some time, but Martens did not plan to be taking orders from the man for long. Zeitmann knew, perhaps, the workings of a business, economics, such things; but Martens knew the mob, and to him that was what mattered. |

Lake sat at the back of the large hall, looking over a small stack of papers as before him the orchestra started up again. Pausing a moment in his scouring of the information given to him he let his eyes unfocus as the melody washed over him. Being not as learned a man in the field of musical history, the song seemed only vaguely familiar to him, even if it was well played. Having no idea why the maestro had required the repeated playing of this particular song, Lake returned to his observations. Looking around the darkened hall, he let his eyes readjust to the semi-darkness that pervaded everything but those on stage, only see identify two figures standing off to the side of the stage. "Lackeys..." he muttered to himself, scowling at how the both of them stood together, failing at their discretion. Pulling himself to his feet he fought back a wince as the rough cotton of his plain white dress shirt chafed against the still tender scar on his breast. In rebellion of the pain, Lake took a deep breath and left the hall with his papers folded and stuffed into the inner pocket of his black dress coat, right next to the .50 caliber Desert Eagle in it's docker's clutch. Once out of the hall, he turned down the foyer and slid through a door labeled "Employees only". Within minutes he was back stage, allowing the darkness to shield him from the unwary. In front of him stood the two members of Sophia's guard, enjoying the music and speaking in hushed voices to one another. Lake looked around him and found the detachable handle used to manually raise and lower the curtains on the stage when the electric motor went foul. Hefting it in his hand he judged it's weight to be around eight pounds, perfect for his intention. Looking deeper back stage he spotted no other figures and made a decision. Tossing the heavy metal bar back stage, it landed on the cement floor with a muffled ring and thud. Turning back to the guards, Lake watched as they spun around, exchanged a look and a nod, and in unison moved deeper back stage to investigate. Silently snarling at the two, Lake allowed the men to pass within three feet of his shadow before lunging out. They might have had him outnumbered, but Lake had the element of surprise and a plan that they had fallen into as if they were following a script. Seconds later one man lay sprawled out on the hard floor with the other shaking as Lake pressed the muzzle of his gun to the back of the man's head. "Shut up!" Lake said in a horse whisper as rage filled his eyes, effectively silencing the man's whimpers. "Give me one good reason not to plaster your brains all over the floor." His voice was calm, but deadly frightening for all that. Even as he held the life of this man in his hands, his heart was cold and steady. Trying to choke back the blubbering sobs that wanted to escape him, the man on his kneed said, "Don't kill me! I'll do anything you want. I can get you money, power, women... Please... I have a family!" "Then you're in the wrong line of work," Lake replied, pressing the muzzle of the large gun into the man's greasy black hair, "Go home. Make love to your wife, and find a new fucking job." He reached over his captive's shoulder and pulled the gun he knew he would find from beneath his jacket, then checked him at the waist and ankles. "Not even a hold out weapon... be grateful I'm your boss and not your enemy." At these words the man on the floor should have seemed relieved, but instead he seemed to collapse in on himself. Teeth bared in an expression of fury he kicked the man in the back, sending him sprawling to the floor where he lay, silent sobs of relief silently escaping his body. Without another word Lake turned to the second of his victims, turned him over with a toe, gun trained on his head as he did so. Still out cold. Leaning down, Lake patted the man down, again finding only a single pistol and no extra ammunition. Then, feeling at the front of the man's cheap suit, he felt what else he had expected, a small button camera. Glaring into this, Lake spoke softly, "These men are dead, and so is your daughter. Next time, hire someone with some backbone... though, I suppose that's why I'm here, isn't it? I will bring her home after I'm done introducing myself to her. If you need anything and don't have my cell phone number, call Warrent. He'll get you in contact with me." Lake then pulled the button camera from the man's breast and dropped it on the floor. "And don't expect me to wear shit like this," he said, stamping on the piece of electronic hardware. He then exited the back stage to return to his seat, though this time in the front rather than in the shadows of the last row. There he would wait until his charge finished and left, at which time he would inform her of the change in her security. Edited by aoberaz, September 5, 2010, 8:33 pm.

As Sophia walked through the doors, she pulled her hair back into a ponytail and nodded to the others who seemed somewhat agitated. Of course, it was reasonable for them to be slightly annoyed with her performance today but did they not remember all her other rehearsals? How was it that once a person made one mistake, it was over? Sophia hoped it wouldn't last too long. She was tough, but she preferred being greeted with kindness and not disdain. As she walked through the halls, Sophia noted how absent it was of the usual men. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, though really, shouldn't she celebrate this moment of freedom? It was strange but maybe her father was finally letting up on the jail bars now that she was the heir. Or should it have been the other way around, Sophia wondered. Before Sophia could think to much of it, her phone buzzed once in her purse. She reached in and pulled out her cellphone, eying her father's number with an already knowing gaze. Will be Late. When wasn't he? Sophia decided she would take a detour on her way to her father's place. It seemed that more and more, her father stayed in the office, never really making his appearance for dinner. At this point, Sophia didn't even bother anymore. She would drop by the house, toss something together, stuff it in the fridge with a note, and leave to her loft. It was practically a ritual by now. Food will be where it always is, then. Love you, Sophia sent back to him with a forced smile on her face. This was going to be her life soon, so she best get used to it. With a small sigh, Sophia walked outside of the campus doors and scanned the streets in the dimming sun's light for a cab. The street was buzzing with cars honking and zooming past. Actually, she felt like walking. Why not take the advantage of being free for once? There was a small pizzeria down the street that some of her classmates usually went to after school and rehearsals. It was so tempting to walk by and see if any of them were there, but they'd probably be home at this time or ignore her if they were there. Of course, when she was able to socialize nobody cared to socialize with her. Maybe she would go home and just spend the night with delivery and her cat, Rachelle. |

Over the drone of the city traffic came the defined sound of a performance motorcycle revving down. This in itself was not uncommon in a city the size of Liam, but what made this sound so unique was that even as she walked away the volume of the motor increased until finally it stopped on the side of the street just a few feet in front of Sophia. First impression of the vehicle shouted modestly expensive, but not overwhelming for a middle class man. Sleek with blue cowling and black engine cover, dual exhaust and recurved handlebars that made the rider piratically lay on top of the gas tank, it was clear that the man who owned this motorcycle was something of an amateur enthusiast. Sitting up straight, Lake removed his darkly tinted black helmet, ran one hand through his short cropped, brown hair, to make it lie a little more orderly on his head, and turned to Sophia with a casual smile. Lake couldn't help but look appealing as he sat there on the motorcycle full of the confidence that had bared him through so many trials, but it was far from his intention, despite what he said. "Sophia Zietmann? My name is Lake Reiser," he said, pulling a black business card out of the pocket of his reinforced riding jacket. At first it looked completely blank until shining black ink caught the light to read, Lake Nicholas "Little Nikkie" Reiser Life Insurance The card offered no information such as workplace or contact numbers, but was printed on card stock that seemed a little too thick for something as simple as a business card. Nevertheless, Lake continued by saying, "I was hoping you could do me the pleasure of dinner." After having said this, Lake looked around them to realize that his appearance had managed to attract no small amount of attention from some of the other college students. Judging them to be of no concern, he looked beyond them to the rest of the milling crowd of pedestrians, detailing features and generally giving the impression of marking every face around the two of them before adding, "A little odd... there's usually more people walking down this street during this time." He let his words trail off suggestively, making sure she caught the innuendo. "I am here to replace them. I was hoping I might make a good impression of myself to you," as he finished, he reached back, flipped up the cushion padding the passenger seat on his bike and removed a second helmet, this one white with a clear visor. He held his out, offering it to Sohpia with a look in his grey eyes that told her there could be no question as to who he actually was. Edited by aoberaz, September 5, 2010, 9:48 pm.

Sophia tapped her flats against the sidewalk as she pondered whether to head to the pizzeria. She was hungry but then again she had things to do. There was still the composition she had to finish writing as well as a report on corporation management for one of her other classes to start typing up. It seemed that she was definitely following suit with her father. Soon, she would be the one sending messages of being late. As she began walking again, towards a taxi that had stopped to let out a young couple, there was a roar of an engine Sophia picked up above the other noises of the city. If she wasn't mistaken, which she mostly never was, it was approaching her. Sophia stopped expectantly as it turned and came to a stop ahead of her. She tried to appreciate the contours of the motorcycle but she couldn't help but feel the overwhelming feel of anxiety. Who on earth was this? Sophia couldn't wrap her head around it at all. Her father wasn't one to hire someone who leaned more towards motorcycles than a BMW with dark tinted windows. Then again, she'd never thought her father as a boss of a mob. Sophia's eyebrow rose slightly as the helmet was removed to reveal a fresh face she most definitely hadn't seen around before. He was quite handsome, though she was definitely put off by his introduction. Oh yes, he must be from father. "Well, that's quite a first impression, Mr. Reiser," Sophia said calmly with an amused smile as she turned the card over in her hand. Life insurance, it said. Oh, this was rich. She tucked the card into the pocket of her purse before looking back at Lake Reiser with curious eyes. "Aha, and here I thought I was rid of security all together. How silly," Sophia said with a small sigh, shaking her head slowly. Oh, well. It had been a nice thought while it had lasted. At least now she only had one man to worry about- this Reiser character. Now why did she know that last name? Sophia's lips pursed as she tried to remember but nothing was coming to her at the moment. Her head was too filled with questions and worries to bother with last names. Sophia took the helmet from Lake and tipped it from one hand to the other as she contemplated actually getting on that monster of a motorcycle. Her stomach made the decision for her. "Lucky for you, I'm starving," Sophia replied as she swiftly put the helmet on and slipped onto the passenger seat of the motorcycle. |

"Wonderful," he said, grinning like a fool, "I hope you like Chinese." Moments later they were on the road, at which point one thing became dazzling evident; Lake didn't have that bike for show. He enjoyed his riding, and riding, it seemed, enjoyed him. He could never get over the sensation of the pressure on his arms and shoulders as he accelerated, which is did with perhaps a little more gusto than was strictly necessary. He rationalized this by asking himself who would want to go fast, slowly? In any case, once they were on the freeway heading towards the East side of town he toned things down and stuck with the traffic around them. When he exited he shifted his weight slightly, leaning into the turn, even going so far as to stick to the inside of the inside lane. Seconds later he turned shifted again and Sohpia was treated to the not altogether unenjoyable sensation of a sudden but smooth shift in momentum that made her feel like her stomach had been left behind. But as soon as the feeling came, it passed and they were cruising down a street unlike any which might hold the kind of restaurant the high class might dine in. While the neighborhood could never qualify as a ghetto, within a single city block they passed two pawn shops, a run down convenience store, a single abandoned building with it's windows covered in sheets of plywood, a tire shop and what might have been a stripclub. Definitely not a high class neighborhood by anyone's standards. At least the shopping district Lake turned into didn't have any stripclubs, in fact judging by the first impression of this part of town, this WAS their high class district. Amongst the stores advertising designer clothes at half prices, a family restaurant that looked like it had been built fifty years ago and was a little overdue for a new side of paint, and a large gym that dominated most of the area, stood a building whose large white bricks were painted with the words, "GOLDEN LUCKY". Having parked and secured their helmets onto the bike Lake led Sohpia in, holding the front door, not out of courtesy, but as if it were only expected. Inside were around 70 or 80 booths with wide laminated tables and red, heavily padded benches. Stepping up to a bored looking young man of obvious Chinese descent Lake held up two fingers, to which the teen hiked a thumb over, indicating the inside of the restaurant which was empty except for a family of five, a son and two daughters, and themselves. "Thanks," he said, a little annoyed at the apathy of the employee and stepped around him to find them a booth near the long line of buffet stalls from which wafted the most delectable smells imaginable. |

Sophia held on for dear life as the motorcycle turned, swerved, and completely detached her stomach from the rest of her body. It was strangely frightening and exhilarating at the same time. She was glad for the visor, which kept the wind from slapping her hair and skin as the automobile flew through the city. Liam spread out before her in a swirl of colors, all mesmerizing to her. No matter how many times she tried to reason that this city was truly full of mobsters and crooks, Sophia couldn't help but see the the rest of the life that breathed into this city she lived in. Yes, it had it's dark parts but for the most part, Sophia loved Liam. Speaking of dark parts, Sophia thought to herself as the motorcycle turned yet again but this time into one of the rougher spots in Liam. It was dingy and she could practically feel the shadows creeping onto her. Sophia didn't exactly take pride in being oblivious to these parts, to the mob, to the cons of society but she was. She was usually kept away from the dangerous streets by her father's wingmen but it seemed Lake Reiser was a bit... different. When the motorcycle finally came to a stop, Sophia stayed put for a moment as she tried to reconnect her stomach and other vital organs. She pulled the helmet off and followed Reiser into the Chinese restaurant, shrugging off the detached teen at the front as she sat down at one of the booths. Sophia took in the smells, which reminded her of her trip to Hong Kong with her father. That had been the last and only time she'd had any type of true Chinese food, and even then it had the slight influence of Britain. "I give you bonus points for bringing me to an authentic restaurant, though the neighborhood leaves something to be desired," Sophia said with a smirk, entertained. Maybe she would have some sort of liberty with this new security. A waitress came by, though it took some time, and handed them both a menu that had both Chinese and English in it. Sophia smiled as she scanned it for her meal. "I'll have the steamed dumplings and the shrimp cashew," Sophia said as she handed the woman back her menu. Marcelo’s left pointer finger flicked across the screen of his new gadget. It was one of those new cash-absorbing doohickeys, an electronic book so to speak, that could hold hundreds of books inside of one little screen. It was supposed to come pre-loaded with books to read. Marcelo looked at the new image and almost smirked in amusement. He wasn’t particularly happy right now, as he was off to do some more of the family dirty work. Being a Capo in the family mob wasn’t exactly his dream in life. The driver of his car seemed to have forgotten Marcelo was there, he was too busy scanning the area around them to make sure there were no unwanted gazes there to interfere with the plan. Needless to say, Marcelo was not jumping for joy. Still, the sweet sweet irony of the words in front of him was too much to ignore. “Two households, both alike in dignity,” “In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,” Ha! Marcelo glanced out the window as they pulled up behind the old transport building. It was an unsavory area, yet still the frames of the far-off billion-dollar skyscrapers hovered over them. The oncoming sunset seemed to illuminate these towers. His shoulder twitched slightly beneath the fine black fabric of his work clothes, but he remained stoic. If only Shakespeare could’ve seen Liam, Verona would be quickly forgotten. “From ancient grudge break to new mutiny…” “We’re here.” His comrade announced with a voice that seemed he had a rock lodged inside of his sternum. Marcelo put down the device and smoothed his suit to get out of the car. No need to bring the thing, he could already recall the rest. “Him, he’s our contact.” “I see.” Marcelo answered, in a voice so tame and soft it could make you think he were incapable of hurting a fly. Marcelo and his co-worker, Stan, approached the stranger. Stan proceeded to ask where the shipment was headed once it arrived that night. The informant provided vague, unconvincing answers. Stan drew his gun. “Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.” Marcelo looked up at the sky. The sounds of grunts and yelling and demands went on for awhile. As the future owner of this mob he went on this part of the outing as a learning experience. If he were to be a corporate bigwig he’d have to learn the art of ‘persuasion.’ That’s what he was told. Brutality was better word. Sadly enough, he was becoming used to it. Marcelo looked back at the scene, Stan was back at his side. “It’ll be passing through the West Shopping district. We‘ll intercept it there” Impressive, those negotiations didn’t take much time at all. “We have time to kill, hungry sir?” Marcelo gave a bored look in reply and the two headed back to the car. That car was soon traded for a taxi, driven of course by a fellow co-worker. Marcelo went on reading the play even as they walked through the door of some bullcrap restaurant called “Golden Lucky“ or “Happy Lucky”, something like that. His eyes remained glued to the screen while they took a booth towards the back of the restaurant. |

Zeitmann wasn’t an idiot or a fool. He knew Martens enough to comprehend his vocabulary and his choice of words. He only wished he was much more subtle in his insubordination. He loathed people who lacked him the proper respect, though it was expected. He was on the cover of magazines; he was a rich CEO and lacked an impressive physique. He lacked the look of a dangerous man, who could they not simply underestimate him? He broke down when his wife died, and isn’t afraid to show ‘weakness’ towards his daughter. Zeitmann disliked ending the life of people, preferring to send them off to a forsaken continent working in a sweatshop, at least they’ll still make them money, but Ehrlichmann was another case. He was a bumbling fool, a disrespectful lout and a traitor. He was the reason that Faust could very well prevent his next shipment. It was also much more poetic to have Martens finish him off; Zeitmann was casually trying to reinforce Martens position in the mob, allowing him to shove his weight around, even if he had no more power than his other Capos. All a precursor set up for his lovely little daughter, but there was something else he had planned for her. He had to break her mentally. She had to be able to turn off her emotional link, turn off her human side. Her efficiency might raise a little, but it was mainly to insure she wouldn’t shatter under the responsibility of it all. She was a Zeitmann! She was qualified to do it, of that he saw. “Get me a Capo, you can dispose of the lackeys as you see fit. Insure that nothing bad happens to our visitors or their gifts. If there is just one simple package missing, or a single Chinese harmed, well it will be on your head Martens.” He spoke casually. Confident that Martens will get the job done. The Immigrants were to work in his new operation he was setting up, a drug lab in that part of the dock fronting as commercial fishing. The initial drugs would reimburse the large amount initially invested in this. The security would be very tight, a bullet to all who dare sniff to loud in the vicinity. He closed his cellphone. Martens had his orders. His eyes caught a glimpse of a fight in the security feed showing his daughter. His eyes squinted as he saw Lake speaking through the camera before breaking it. Zeitmann really disliked that young punk for destroying that precious piece of equipment. Lake was a good kid, but he had too much heart. He let his emotions get too much in his way. He did a good job, a very competent man, but he was touched in the head if he thought he was going to let him get away with that. The two mooks were decoys, anybody could deduce that. They were the people that were in plain sight as the real security hid among the common people being inconspicuous. Zeitmann wasn’t going to hire just weaklings to protect the one thing he would openly sacrifice his entire wealth and businesses. He had several bugs on his daughter, some she might have found out and others she didn’t. The issue without showing weaknesses is that people will try and act on them. He made his daughter his biggest weakness, and it is only inevitable they’ll try to get to her, to get to him. Zeitmann tracked them as they finally came to a halt. “Golden Lucky?” Zeitmann muttered to himself. It was such a crass part of town. He had already a few men keeping a close eye, some as normal patrons, some from within cars, some from within buildings, and he himself was keeping watch from the video feed. It was then he saw him, enter the restaurant from his video feed. He picked up his real cell phone and gave Lake a call. “Mr. Reiser, get my daughter back to the estate!” He then closed the cellphone. As he tapped on his computer screen, this would be a fatal blow to the Faust if he took out their heir while their real CEO was out of the picture. He won’t shoot first though; he’ll order his men to only shoot should they see him reach for something in his coat before his daughter is evacuated from the premises. |

Lake couldn't help but grin at her opinion of the part of town he had brought her, not that he hadn't expected it. "They make the best moo goo gai paan here. Hardly any cat," he kept his tone level enough as to many her wonder if he was being serious or not, but of course he wasn't. When the waitress came to their table Lake waited for his partner to order before placing his own in modern Cantonese and waiting for her to leave earshot before continuing in English. "This side of the tracks aren't that bad. Full of chinks and spics, most of them are just hard working joes like you and me. But every now and then you meet a decent guy. I mean, hell, I grew up here after all." No sooner had he finished than he heard the bells at the front door chime, announcing the arrival of even more patrons. Busy day he thought to himself, glancing in the metal plating that covered the upper half of the wall. What he saw there caused him pause and in looking to his right, slightly over his shoulder his suspicions were confirmed. Jesus, you really can't go anywhere in this town without running into a killer... Damn they're far from home, why are they on this side of town? Reaching into the pocket of his slacks he pulled out his cell and turned off the ringer. He might have been a strong arm, but Lake was not stupid enough to think that a man as powerful and intelligent as Zeitmann would only post two pissants to guard both his beloved daughter, and inheritor of his fortune and power. It had been why he had left the other of the guard unconscious on the ground; his newly acquired assistants would see the result, be able to clean up, and understand that Lake was a teddy bear with teeth. Sure enough, not twenty seconds had passed before he saw the front of the thing light up, and in answering he heard the voice and command he had expected. What a day... and I just got out of the hospital too. Lake deliberated the situation as he replaced the phone on the table. A second later it was joined by their food, "Mh-goi," he said to the woman before picking up his fork and taking a bite of his bbq pork, followed by the fried rice. In a moment of sheer insanity, Lake imagined himself casually walking over to the newcomers, painting the walls with them, and returning to his table to finish the tasty, tasty food. But Lake wasn't crazy, just proud. Glancing, he saw the waitress now offering menus to the newcomers, and made up his mind. Pulling his arm against the left side of his chest he felt the satisfying weight of the pistol against his ribs and told himself to keep a calm act going. The most unfortunate thing about all of this was that Sohpia and Lake weren't going to be able to enjoy the meal, but maybe that was for the best as he had no intention of driving safely as he made his retreat. Picking up his phone again he ate with one hand and composed a quick text message with the other, grimacing inwardly at his own bad table manners, but desperate times and all that. Sending the message he replaced his phone in his pocket and divided his attention between Sophia and his most recent object of terror as subtly as he could. Within a minute his knee was bounding like a man who had too much coffee and not enough sleep and continued until the sound of a dual exhaust motorbike starting up could be heard clearly through the thin walls. Lake then glanced at one of the doors that led from the kitchen into the L shaped dining room and waited. Biding his time, Lake didn't move until he saw the waitress reemerge to take the orders of the men. Dropping his fork he looked intently at Sohpia and said, "They have this kinda sugar coated doughnut at the buffet. They're really excellent and the only way anyone can see that part of the room is through the kitchen door's window... I betcha we can sneak one without the staff noticing. C'mon." He left no room for argument as he took her by the elbow with a grip that was both gentle in it's application and urgent in its pressure. Leading Sohpie around the back of their booth he made for the buffet area which was set apart from the restaurant proper, but once out of sight of the rest of the dinners he looked over his shoulder at his charge and held one finger against pursed lips in a universal sign. Opening the door to the kitchen he led her through, paying no heed to the curious looks of the cooks and bell boys as he stepped swiftly through the room, deeper and deeper until they reached the large metal door that led out the back. Opening this, Lake forced Sohpia through it before looking to the employees and saying something in chinese again. With bewildered looks from nearly all, but a nod from one of the younger cooks, Lake followed Sohpia out the back door to see a Mexican woman standing next to his motorcycle, which was running and ready for them. "You owe me one, vato." she said, stepping away from the bike as Lake moved towards her. Taking her by the shoulders he kissed her on the cheek and said, "Gracias Maria." Throwing on his helmet before swinging his leg over the bike, Lake pulled Sophia on behind him and said, "Hang on tight." Though he kept a calm appearance as they began towards the road, once onto it he shot out across traffic and up the street. If he had enjoyed the sensation of acceleration before, he reveled in it now, twice blowing straight through red residential lights as they made their way to the freeway. Once on the freeway he glanced back to see a black sedan in their wake, and though he could have written the vehicle off as any luxury carrier, he nevertheless cut through two lanes to the HOV lane. Only when the sedan did likewise did Lake open the throttle on his motorcycle. Within seconds they had gone from a speedy 70 miles per hour to over a hundred; so the bike wasn't just for show. This wasn't the first time Lake had found himself almost doubling the posted speed limit, and from the way he ducked between two lanes and onto the shoulder to pass where necessary, he was very good at it. But the speed didn't last long, as the car vanished among the evening traffic, and as soon as it did Lake went from the HOV lane, across four lanes of traffic and onto the next offramp. Once off Lake resumed a normal velocity, took a right onto Broadway, drove down this for about three quarters of a mile, and then turned down an alleyway far too narrow for anything but his motorcycle to turn down, stopping about six hundred feet down. Dropping the kickstand he looked over at Sophia and turned up his visor. It was hard to believe, but no less than eight minutes ago they had been fifteen miles away enjoying a leisurely Chinese dinner and attempting to get to know one another. The expression on Lake's face was one of regret as he said, "I'm sorry to have had to put you through that, and I'm sure you've heard this a dozen times before, but we really weren't safe in that restaurant." But that was where he ended the explanation, because he had to remove his cell phone from his pocket and hit the little green button twice to recall the most recent number. "I have her. She's safe. How many do you have tailing us?" Edited by aoberaz, September 6, 2010, 2:49 am.

"Very well," Martens drawled, before immediately closing the cellphone shut without another word. Then he stood slowly from the office chair, placed the pen in one of the inner pockets of the long black overcoat, and then began walking across the great expanse that was his office in this particular warehouse. As he made his way through the warehouse to make an example of Ehrlichmann, Martens' hand drifted towards the revolver that was concealed in the overcoat. Some ten minutes later, in the main body of the warehouse, as two men dragged the body of Ehrlichmann away, Martens turned to look over the fifteen or so of his best soldiers gathered around him. As his scars were thrown into detail by the dim lights that hung above them, the soldiers snapped to attention, standing as straight as rulers, their eyes staring straight forward. "A delivery at the docks," Martens spoke loudly. "Kill all FaustMob soldiers--leave any Capos alive to me." A few soldiers fidgeted uncomfortably at the words. "Leave all the Chinese unharmed." Martens' soldiers were known for their brutality and bloodlust, but he knew they feared his retribution for disobeyment of orders much more than they desired blood. |

Sophia raised an eyebrow, a smile playing on her lips. "I'll have you know that I don't like eating my pet," she teased as she unrolled her napkin and moved her fork and knife around the table. She didn't want to look too snobby and check for stains on either of the utensils, so she very discreetly flipped them over just to get a good look. Thankfully, they were clean. Maybe she was being ridiculous but even in the more proper restaurants, Sophia checked her utensils before putting them to her lips. Sophia listened as he spoke, not shocked by where he was raised as many of her security seemed to have similar stories. Though, every time he spoke, it seemed like she should have realized something. His last name kept nagging at her for attention. Reiser, what was it about that name? "Hard working, you say," Sophia murmured, mostly to herself as she continued to flip her fork around, waiting for the food to arrive. Sometimes, she wondered if the life she had simply handed everything to her. At times, it seemed as much. She was dedicated, sure, but without her father's money perhaps many of the advantages she had in life would never have existed. Was she so hard working? She never had enough self confidence to concretely answer that question. There was the sound of the door opening again and Sophia turned slightly in curiosity to see who else would be out in these parts. For some reason, one of the males within the group seemed somewhat familiar to Sophia, as if she'd seen his picture before in her father's files when he'd handed her everything she needed to know about the company. Slowly, she realized who he was: The FaustCo Heir. How interesting! She felt amused and there was the silly urge to greet him. It was obvious there was a rivalry between the two corporations but she wasn't so seriously furrowed in it as her father. In fact, her opinion on the matter was that the two companies should merge. They'd be almost completely unstoppable then but sometimes, such dreams couldn't come true. Especially now that Sophia knew about the mob. Now, why was her mind telling her she was forgetting something about this heir? Before she could think too much about it, Sophia heard the distinct tapping of a foot. She glanced over at Reiser with curiosity as she noted that it was his foot bouncing so actively when the food arrived. Sophia shook it off and turned to her delicious meal, about to begin eating it, when he made yet another odd comment. Sophia's mind clicked into place. The heir was also known to be involved in the Faust mob, though to what extent, Sophia hadn't read just yet. She'd been too wrapped up in her college studies to read it all through. Yet again, Sophia was going to be escorted out. How delightful. Sophia followed Reiser quietly, not even struggling a little. She'd learned at a very young age that questioning those hired to protect was just a waste of time and action. She hopped onto the motorcycle, noting the Mexican woman with intrigue before the automobile sped away with a fierceness that hadn't been there before. This time, Sophia was sure it was going well past the legal limit. She clutched on tightly, the city lights passing by in a sickening blur before suddenly coming to a stop. For a moment, Sophia felt disoriented and unsure of which way was right or left. Slowly, she pulled the helmet off and glanced back down the alleyway they'd stopped in. "Well, Mr. Reiser, that was an impressive getaway. The best yet," Sophia said breathlessly as she stumbled off the motorcycle and ran a hand through her hair. Her stomach was growling quietly as she leaned against the alley wall. Of course, she hadn't started her meal. There was still delivery. "Where exactly are we? I want to go to my loft," Sophia said, rubbing her forehead and almost completely forgetting how she was supposed to make something for her father. "Actually, scratch that. I need to go to my father's house," she corrected. |

Stan looked stupidly at the waitress while Marcelo sat across from him, still playing with his new toy. How foolish could a man be? If he did not know anything about Chinese food, why would he arrange for a Chinese restaurant to be their temporary resting grounds? Honestly. Marcelo paused to roll his eyes and quickly went back to his reading. It was below his reading level, but addicting nonetheless. There was a duality to Shakespeare's work, no matter how many times he read it. "Still-waking sleep, that is not what it is! This love feel I, that feel no love in this. Dost thou not laugh?" "I'll have uh- the special." Stan told the incredibly patient waitress. Marcelo sighed and looked up from his gadget. "The same." He added plainly, deciding to play along with the Frenchman's incompetence. It seemed his timing were just right to see a flash of sea blue eyes and blond hair. A girl, at least for a moment before an unidentified man lead her away (rather quickly one might note). She was very familiar, yet they were gone before it registered in his mind. Sophia Zeitmann. He'd seen photos of her, yes, also witnessed her from a distance. The heiress to ZeitCo, and his blood-born rival. "No, coz, I rather weep." "Stan!" he hissed as soon as the waitress was gone. "Zeitmann is here." "What do you mean?" "I saw Sophia Zeitmann." Much to Marcelo's disdain, Stan laughed. "That spoiled princess out in these parts? Ridiculous, her father would never allow it. I don't know you to get so shook up. Are you truly that nervous about our little raid?" "No." Marcelo replied coldly, insulted by the insinuation. He calculated that at the speed those two were traveling there was no use in trying to follow them now. They were likely already enmeshed with the traffic of the city. It was no use fighting with Stan, now. He gave in and became presence-less once again. The thought lingered however, like a word that one wants to say but cannot remember. Sophia Zeitmann, mere inches away, what was she doing out here? |

Zeitmann was pleased with Mr. Reiser’s efficiency. He leapt out of the tiger’s den so quickly and efficiently that he had no more fear for his daughter; it also meant that the Faust heir was now by his lonesome. Zimmermann was not going to allow this chance to escape his grasp. He quickly typed on his computer as he kept his attention to the security of one of his men tailing Reiser. He quickly dialled a number on his phone and barked the following orders: “Kill the lackey, Capture Faust. I want him alive!” No doubt the heir would know something was up, he had to be quick and efficient. His men who looked like ordinary civilians within the restaurant took out their guns and pointed it at Faust and his lackey. They were trained to kill and incapacitate. “Herr Faust, come quietly”. They would kill the lackey, and aim for Faust’s legs should he try to run. Zeitmann was not confident in acquiring the Faust family heir so easily. No doubt he was not alone so far in ZeitCo territory. No doubt, he was here about the shipment. He must have several Capos out there. Right now, he had enough men to safely take down Faust, his lackey and insuring he doesn’t escape. His Capos might come out of the woodwork; capturing Faust was priority. The man glanced back at the security feed showing his daughter and picked up his phone to dial when it rung in his hands. He smirked as he put it in his ear to hear Lake’s voice. “More than you can possibly imagine; touch her inappropriately and I’ll send you to an early grave” He answered emotionless to his question. “Bring her back to my estate.” He added as he shut the phone. He then quickly typed an instant message to his daughter. “See you 2night, little Sophie ♥♥♥” If they manage to grab the heir, he wouldn’t need a Faust Capo after all… Zeitmann smirked. The victory here would be unimaginable. |

Watching through the corner of his eye as he spoke so briefly with Mr Zeitmann, Lake had been ready with a supportive hand the moment Sohpia had faultered; he had half expected it, and after the ride he had just taken well understood the sensation. However the support had proved unnecessary and he withdrew his hand before ever having to touch his charge. Seconds later, Lake scowled down at his phone, Doesn't this guy know how to say goodbye?[i/] But the telephonic pleasantries of a man whose influence extended around the globe was hardly a cause for concern, particularly in light of recent events. So, stuffing the mobile device back into it's place, he turned to Sohpia, the calm pleasant smile back on his face once more, "I am glad you approve. I was afraid you would approve of my methods. And speaking of approval and methods, it would seem your father agrees that your place now is at his estate uptown. Not entirely unexpected I've taken the liberty to have our food delivered there. If we hurry we can made it before it gets too cold." About a quarter of an hour later the two of them pulled into the large Zeitmann estate and up to the front door. As he got off the bike he wondered if he was about to receive even more orders, and though he understood that it was the nature of his job, he couldn't help but inwardly resent the fact. That, coupled with the nearly disastrous dinner he himself was responsible for, Lake was somewhat reclusive as he held the front door open for Sophia. |

"Shit." Stan cursed, the moment the Zeitmann soldiers stood. A wave of terror went through Marcelo, then anger. This place was supposed to be clear. How many men were present on his side? There was Stan, then Westley and Blake in the taxi outside. No, not nearly enough, even if the other two knew what was going on. He calmly pocketed his "book" and turned slowly to look at the thugs, guns pointed at him. Herr Faust? Was using the German form of "sir" meant to be an off-handed insult or were they just stupid? Marcelo decided he should bank on stupid. He was just about ready to make his move when Stan boldly reached into his suit pocket and stood up. They filled him with holes immediately. Marcelo froze. Stan fell backward, landing on the seat of the booth like a corpse into a coffin. And so came the end of Lestan Brun. By the time the shock wore off they were yelling at him once again, to come immediately lest he himself be killed. Marcelo did the first thing he could think of. He ducked down and slid across the booth, as they fired at him. He positioned Stan in front of him as a shield. A flick of the wrist and he drew his handgun and began to fire back. A couple of minutes wore on in a rain of bullets. Marcelo ran out of ammunition and found himself in quite the pickle. How many had he hit? Quite a few actually, he impressed himself. There was at least one dead. The moment of pride did not last, however, as soon as the Zeits realized he was out of fire he was shamefully apprehended. He did not know where they were going, he did not ask. He resumed his meek bookworm persona despite the fact that they had seen his murderous side. He managed to look out and see that the taxi was gone, which meant a rescue was coming. He only had to survive until they got to him. |

After a while of breathing in and out slowly, Sophia regained her balance and stood away from the wall. She watched Reiser intently as he talked with her father, almost making out the words on the other side of the phone line. She was curious as to what was going on now that they had left the restaurant. Sophia wasn't sure of her father's intentions, but she knew that he would do anything to further his company and protect what he possessed, and so she knew that something was happening. Sophia would find out exactly what that was as soon as she met with her father. Almost as soon as she thought that, her phone buzzed once as she recieved a message. Swiftly, Sophia pulled her phone from her purse and laughed lightly at her father's form of affection. Little hearts? He was so strange. One minute, he was as cold as steel and the next, a soft teddy bear that called his daughter "Little Sophie". She hoped he wasn't committing too many crimes by protecting her. He meant well but sometimes she wondered if his sense of right and wrong were twisted in some way. Snapping her cellphone shut, Sophia looked up at her guard with a small smile. "I've learned to accept anything and everything that is done by those my father hire," she admitted as she hopped back onto the motorcycle. It was strange how true her statement was. She'd come to accept the existance of mobs, crime, and a side of her father she'd refused to see until recent times. It was hard to wrap her mind around it all but her tough exterior helped to bear the brunt of it all. As a Zeitmann, she was prepared for anything that was thrown her way- even things that shouldn't be revealed to a young woman still going through college, barely involved in life. Sophia's mind was still twirling around all her thoughts when the motorcyle came to a stop in front of her father's estate and she shook her head out of the daze. Really, she needed to focus. Calmly, having adjusted to the speed of the motorcycle after having ridden it so much in one day (even less than that), Sophia stood and walked through the grand doors of her father's house and breathed in the familiar scent of the place. Gently, she placed her bag down on the table beside the door and strolled to the kitchen. Of course, by the time her father showed he would be hungry and she hadn't even thought of ordering him anything from Golden Luck. "Mr.Reiser, take a seat while we wait for my father. I'm going to throw something together for him," Sophia said as she scrumaged through the refrigerator for everything she needed. Quickly, she tossed together a Greek salad, glad that she'd gotten to the vegetables before the mold could've taken hold. Her father was so careless when it came to his own health sometimes, always worrying about his work and never taking the time to make good meals. Soon, she was done with the salad and put it aside, contemplating whether she should sear tuna or salmon. Heck, did he even have any source of meat in the kitchen? |

Martens breathed smoke from his mouth as he watched the deal go through successfully. Strewn across the docks were about a dozen or so bodies, almost all of them of FaustMob soldiers--of Martens' soldiers, there had only been an injury or two in the minor firefight that had broken out between them. Immediately after, the ZeitMob soldiers had gone ahead with their assignment as if nothing had ever happened. They had what they needed; the delivery was being loaded into one of the cars, and a Capo who had had the misfortune of being caught at the scene was also being transported to the warehouse.

Lake nodded and went to the living room where he was about to take a seat on the large expensive couch when something Sophia said finally sank through the numbness caused by the day's events. Retracing his steps once more he found his way to the kitchen, and leaning against the doorway he cleared his throat to get her attention. "You said that you've learned to accept the things your dad's employees say to you... First, I want you to know that I not here to protect you because your father is paying me. My dad raised me to believe that all life is worth living, no matter how miserable, and since all life is worth living any life is worth protecting. Second, and if you don't mind my saying so, one day all of this will be yours. If you don't start questing the things people tell you, you may learn that you've been lied to. I'm not telling you not to trust anyone, just... I dunno... one day you'll have to learn how to pick your battles. If you don't know how to question the intentions of those around you you're going to wind up making mistakes that should belong to others. And third... don't call me Mr Reiser, please? It makes me feel old. You might not believe it, but I'm actually younger than you." As he finished his phone went off; he had set it on vibrate when they had stopped in the alleyway off Broadway. Pulling it out, he registered Maria's number and felt an odd foreboding. Did she want him to pay her for bringing his bike around the back? Looking back to to Sohpia he gave a small shrug that silently said "oh we terrible of the working class" and stepped out to answer it. Seconds later the blood froze in his veins as the panicking woman gabbled away in Spanish, only about half of which he could make out so vehement was her despair. After speaking a few calm steady words he managed to get the woman to actually take breaths between words instead of just stringing everything into one long spiel. After she managed to get a hold of herself she explained the sounds she had heard coming from the Golden Lucky mere minutes after they had left. Feeling the color drain from his face he told Maria that she had better take the rest of the day off and get home to her family and forget everything she had done and heard that day. After making her promise not to call her old drug dealer he hung up with the woman and began pacing back and forth across the living room. Zeitmann wasn't a fool, he knew he wouldn't be able to pull this off no matter how many men he killed. Moreover, even if he did there was no question it would be the beginning of a mob war that would likely decimate the city. As it was, it would be a miracle if the Golden Lucky made it through the week, or even the night without being making headlines with the story of it's unexpected destruction by possible arson. Cursing to himself he wondered what the old man was thinking; hadn't he ordered Lake to evacuate the premises to avoid a situation just like this?! Lake remembered hearing a rumor that the leader of FaustCo was on vacation or something, but that didn't mean that there would be repercussions for this action. If anything, the lack of command would lead the FaustCo mob to take actions into their own hands, and be damned the consequences then. Lake had no idea what anyone was thinking or what was going on, but he knew one thing... Heads would roll by sunup. |

Evangeline Faust sat on the bed of her dull, grey room, engulfed in her reading as she always was. Today it was The Gunslinger by Stephen King. Lighter reading than usual, she thought vaguely, but it's interesting enough. This was how she spent every moment out of school, sitting in solitude, reading any book she could find to relieve the daily boredom. She had never disobeyed her father, and she didn't plan to. She gave a hopeless, disappointed sigh at her own lack of courage. Well, that wasn't altogether true. Since last year, she had been sneaking out at night, wandering around the city like a stray cat. She constantly feared being caught, and felt ashamed when she spoke to her father, but the small amount of time she spent outside of her comfortable prison was addicting, enticing, begging her to lengthen it. With another sigh, she closed the worn paperback and turned to the window above her bed. Tentatively she gripped the panel, inching it open until she found herself smiling at the wind that stirred in her long black hair, the calming smell of crisp autumn air. She stared out at the multitude of apartments, skyscrapers, and more, uncontrollable smile never fading in the slightest. Father's away on business... The dangerous thought crossed her mind suddenly, It would be easy to sneak out... Pushing all arguments to the back of her mind with a fair amount of immaturity, she crept by her bodyguards- honestly, there was really no point to them if they were this easy to avoid- and flew down the street with reckless abandon the moment she left her home, eyes moving at the speed of light as they flitted from object to object, taking in everything there was to see. |
