Much of the information I had in here I removed because I didn't want to overwhelm new applicants. Hence the next couple of blank posts by me. They used to be things like Feats and ability details, but I've decided that if the people really interested in customizing their characters can't follow my lead to a third party side where I'm getting all this information, they might want to reconsider their choice of difficulty.

So basically were playing D&D. Like the only thing that's actually .hack about this is going to be the online environment and story xD

Oh well, I'm totally taking Druid just because form changing also heals me :D

You just had to go and break my combo?

Again, no. Despite the fact that there is a wealth of information, it is only for those who are interested in fully customizing their characters to make them do exactly what they want. And even then, the people who do want to customize their characters won't need 95% of this crap. I'm just putting it out there in case someone DOES.

I said at the outset, this rp is going to be run like a game. Being as .hack is famous for being a game I considered it fitting. If you don't to play in a game where everything can be measured, from combat, to character progression, I invite you to wait around for Boomstick to make HIS game of cops and robbers.

Edit: do you intend on choosing Easy, or Custom modes?
One more thing: where are you getting the impression Wild Shape heals you from?

No need to attack me about it, I was just saying.

Don't attack Boomstick's roleplay either, so what if it's not going to be run the same as yours it's his roleplay to do what he wants with. < Mod Talk.

I'll have a character up eventually.

Before making your character you might want to reread the Wild Shape details. They most definitely do not heal you. You may be thinking of Polymorph from 3.5, which did something similar, but didn't actually heal the caster.

Edit: Having broken out my 3.5 phb I find that polymorph did heal the caster as though they had a full night's rest, but nowhere under the 3.5 druid does it say that Wild Shape preforms like Polymorph.

But if it's healing you're worried about, druids make the second best healers after clerics.

Wildshape healed you in 3.5 too. Or is this going by 4.0 rules? My group doesn't play 4.0 since it's a little bit broken.

Sorry to say Wild Shape never healed you. In 3.5 it functioned like Alternate Form. It's possible that it was one of the changes made in the transition from 3.0 to 3.5, as there is a subheading referencing Errata.

As for what rules it's going by, I'm using Pathfinder rules, which is an internet based Open Gaming License set up for people like me trying to do what I'm doing here. Everything is cannon, though the backbone was based heavily off 3.5.

Actually, if you want self-healing abilities that don't take any effort, check out the Paladin, which has the ability to use it's lay on hands ability as a free action.

but I'm getting pulled too far into tabletop mode... that's what I get for reading D&D rules all night long.

That cheap bastard ~-~ Freaking last DM I was with made our Paladin use Lay on Hands as an action.

I was the Cleric.

Oh well, we didn't really remember that Druids could heal when they wild shaped so it doesn't matter to me.

lol, in 3.5 Lay on Hands is a Move action. You weren't cheated. All the character classes in Pathfinder have been amped up from 3.5. There's minor to significant changes to be had on all classes, in particular, paladin (which is nothing short of overpowered now) Bard, Sorcerer and Wizard classes.

I only brought up the whole, "wild shape doesn't heal you" thing because you said it was a significant factor in your choosing the class. I didn't want you running away with any false ideas about your character. It would suck to get into combat, shift and wonder what happened to the HP that you should have been healed.

And another thing. Is there a Delete Post button that I'm missing? I could really use it right about now.

Should I print off a D&D character sheet then? Cause if we're doing it like that then I'm sure I can find my Flash Drive.

Sure, if you want to go the whole hog. I was planning on keeping electronic copies in pdf form to keep track of all the players. There's a Pathfinder character sheet that has all the fields set up, and if you download the adobe 9.0 trial you can save pdfs. I've done it for a couple of other RPs I've run and been a part of.

I'm not going to -require- any of my players to fill out physical character sheets. But I was considering ways of rewarding players who wanted to put more effort into their characters.

How about this, for all the players who choose to customize their characters, I will allow them to create their characters at level 3 instead of level 1. Keep in mind though, that it might be a little while till you earn your next level. The XP system I intend to use doesn't require nearly as many points as standard D&D, but higher level players participating in lower level events or quests will still suffer a partial penalty until the rest of the crew catches up.

Hm~ Are the stats going to be filled out for me or do you just want me to roll them here?

I don't agree with rolling stats in these kinds of systems. Under normal circumstances I stand by the old argument that, "all men are not created equal", and therefore randomly generated stats fit. But these stats are only going to apply within THE WORLD, a computer game where everyone uses the same system. Therefore I'm going with the "Point-Buy" system. Check out post #21 on the first page for all the details.

If you don't feel like going through all the trouble you can also choose "Easy mode" and I'll generate a Vanilla druid for you.

The Pathfinder core classes are more than enough to cover every aspect of the .hack// world and then some. Like I've said many times before, I don't want to do a copy/paste of the anime series, I want to make this setting my own in order to give the players a story they will enjoy.

So then magic and skills are also out?

Vak Kruz
Rue Rom
La Repth
Calamity
Triple Doom
Etc.

Correct. There is no lack of spells available, though not to all classes. In this game, character roles are going to be far more defined than in the .hack// series. There will be none of this warrior classes casting magical spells. They won't need to, they'll be able to deal more than enough damage to things on their own without having to worry about a Mana Pool.

Sorry it's been a long day and I read that post at like 11 last night ~-~

I'll find it soon and try and have my character created by the end of the night. No promises though.

Mk, just making sure I got this right. Here's what my Druid stats are looking like. I'm pretty sure I got 30 points spent.

Wolfken just so you know :P

Str. 12 = 2
Dex. 10 = 0
Con. 14 = 5
Int. 12 = 2
Wis. 18 = 17
Cha. 12 = 4

Took two pages but I've got my character sheet completed. At least the background history and such. I'm not sure if I need to fill out my skill checks. Let me know if I do I've got a basic idea of what I want to do.
