Battle Thread

Greetings, we have received your acceptance response to the optional beta testing of the Legenden Zeit game and system. seeing as you have accepted the responsibility for the test equipment and agreed to the confidentiality clause we have sent you a package containing the game and it's system enclosed in it. We would like to welcome you to the beta testing for KSI Industrializes' revolutionary new game Legenden Zeit. You are not required to submit feedback, but it greatly appreciated. Thank you and feel free to contact us at the below information for questions.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The World Of Legenden Zeit
The world of Legenden Zeit is broken up into several zones and regions. Each zone is geared towards a different group of levels. The original spawning zone, as well as the area most well suited for low level characters is Ereumana. As the Beta is still rather low in it's period of being underway this is where almost all payers reside for the time being. Within the zone there are two cities, WeißerStein which is located in the very center of the region on the island on the middle of the river, and Kleinerturz which is located in the norther section of the region along side the river. [In English servers they are named the same but are often referred to as white rock and Klein] Each of these cities have a wide variety of different things to offer, between shops, Stables, and various events to take part in. There are also several minor settlements located off and about the region which has several quests and ordeals of their own, though they would likely only have one or not shops within these smaller settlements. The terrain is almost entirely plains, with patches of light forests here and there and the mountains which box in the region from the rest of the world save for roads and paths that lead through them.
The time was 6:30 US Eastern Standard Time. Why EST you ask? Because that is where the HQ for KSI Industry's American Branch was located, and with it, so was the support server for Legenden Zeit beta testing. It was in New York City, New York state to be exact. It was one of only 2 support servers outside of the main server in Berlin Germany. But enough about the locational importances of the English server. Let's focus rather on the fact that that server in question was processing trillions upon trillions of components at once as it ran and processed the information streaming through it for the Legenden Zeit game beta.
And it was in modest, but comfortable appartment not too far from the KSI building that a employee of the company was settling in after a pleasant meal. Robert Schultz had enjoyed his meal and had cleaned up afterwards, and he was just finishing checking his E-mail. After having finished his tasks for the afternoon he walked over to his simple stereo and turned on some music, but had it very low as to be hardly registered in his ears. He then walked over to his desk and opened the side drawer, pulling out a bottle of pills. He got himself a glass of water and took one, then set it down on the desk again, and walked over to pick up the head set that was a major part of his life now and laid down on his bad. He put the headset on and rested his head back, reaching up and clicking it on. The head set was on a long wire which ran to a plug in to his computer. The computer itself was only acting as a connection hub for the game system. He then closed his eyes, which were covered by the head set anyways and took a breath as it booted up and for the physical response suppressant to kick in.
The next thing he new he was in front of a floating box which read "password". He spoke out loud (though he actually thought it rather than verbally spoke) "KS-Weiß" drawing up in what seemed to be a motionless body into a set of frames. There was two frames, with a figure in each. In one, he saw the body of Issac-R, his beta character for his personal time. In the other his character for his working hours when he was being paid for the information logged on the character. It something that only employees of KSI Industries could have. Because they were the only ones with an option of having more than one character without deleting their previous characters. All other players simply logged right into their characters. But now Robert reached out to his BeastMaster and the next thing he knew he was standing at the warp gate in the city of WeißerStein. He didn't look down to the cloth that now covered him, how his hair was longer and his frame different. The feeling of the fabric against him was familiar, the smells in the air and the sounds of people, both NPC and Played Characters going about their business.
he looked about the steps which lead down from the warp gate and spotting nothing in particular he headed off down into the city which surrounded the gate on the middle of the island in the river of the game world region, his hid boots making small thunking sounds under him with each steps which were hardly noticeable among the sounds of the city.
Reality was no longer fun to him. He would spend every waking moment on a game of sorts. The only time he was not on was while he was eating or using the restroom. This particular moment he was busy trying to scarf down his latest meal. His father was at work and one of the maids had forced him to come down stairs and eat. He didnt like his fathers staff because they forced him to have less time gaming. A pill was sitting next to a glass of water and as he finished his food he took the glass and the pill and went up stairs. When he got into his room he slid back a book case and put his hand on a scanner and a seamless door opened. Lights clicked on as the door opened and he entered his massive hide away. In the dead center of the room was a gigantic bed with five 60'' flat screens around it. The floor had several compartments that could be pulled up to expose several different kinds of gaming systems and games. He layed down on his bed and pulled up the newest compartment. In it was a head set and a new system that had never seen the light of day. He pulled out the head set and grabbed a remote off of his bed. He clicked on some tunes and cranked them up so they he would barely be able to register them in the game but not interfere with the game. The good thing about this place was that the walls were sound proof so he could turn up the volume as loud as he wanted. He took the pill and downed the glass of water. He put on the headset and was promted to enter his pass word. Juken in front of him the scenery changed. He was standing outside of the warp gate to Kleinerturz. The hustle and bustle of the city felt like home to him. He enjoyed this game more so than others. To some this was just a game, but to him it was his life. He smiled broadly and ran down the steps into the center of the town.
As usual the school day dragged for Aleena Perryton, but today it seemed to drag just a bit more than usual. After all what interest did biology hold when one could be off slaying creatures? When she finally reached the top floor of the building she and her mother lived in Aleena wanted nothing more than to pop the suppressor pill that would allow her to integrate herself with the virtual world of LZ. However, despite her disinterest in biology Aleena still had a chapter to outline before she would be free to pursue more interesting activities.
By the time Aleena had shoved aside her weighty textbook and fed her grumbling stomach it was almost 6:30. Downing one of the suppressor pills Aleena set up for her few hour trip to LZ. She ran off a string of jumbled letters and numbers when prompted for her password. With a mental sigh, Aleena felt herself slide into Nyinn's body. Nyinn stretched; ready for some action. Stepping away from the warp gate Nyinn was swallowed by the crowd that populated WeißerStein.
The city of WeißerStein, or 'whiterock' as those in the English server call it, was named due to the great castle in the middle of the city which was built entirely of white stones, giving off a seeming faint glow in the sun. Yes, it was sunny, even though it had begun to darken in the real world, here it was bright, seeming to be around noon. The world of LZ was on a half clock time schedule to the real world. Meaning for every second that passed in the real world, two passed within the world. Leaving each day to only be about as long as half a day in the real world. An hour only took 30 minutes, and at the moment, the sun was up, and it seemed to be just after noon LZ time. And in this time the city seemed to be fully active. There were Characters walking around thought the city, PC's and NPC's going about some people bragging about latests kills and some laughing. There was one duel going on over to the side of the of a fountain, a few people were playing with a pet dog that they had pitched in together to get(it too had a simple, yet complete AI). People wondered by shops browsing over wares and chatting with shop keepers. Shops were run by NPC's and all of them had their own unique AI. Smaller shops were geared towards the lower levels, the larger more robust shops were geared towards higher in the ranks. There were also booth carts which players could rent if they wanted, to sell their own materials, goods, equipment to other players rather than selling them to shops.
Guards clad in glistening heavy metal armor stood at street corners and keep a watch out to insure that it was all well and good. Any NPC in the game could be freely interacted with, and had their own complete AI. This was a masterpiece of epic proportions. The world of LZ seemed to promise to end up the most complete game world of any on the market. And this city seemed to show it.
People filtered in and out of the city, forming groups to go hunt creatures and fulfill quests. The city had four gates, on at the center of each directional wall, North, South, East, and West. Beyond the cities walls was a span of land in all directions till they came to the end of they island. The river beyond had only two bridges, One on the south west edge of the island, and one on the east side. The two bridges allowed characters to travel over to the land beyond. The land of the island itself was almost entirely with lower level animals, and no beasts were to be found this close to WhiteRock. Beyond the river however, some low level beasts and humanoids could be found from time to time if you were looking in the right place.
Robert stretched and looked about as he watched the various people shifting in and out of the areas. A outer patrol guard atop a horse clicked by as it was finishing it's shift going about the city walls and headed for the castle. He stretched and started to make his way out to the city's south gate, passing by several folks haggling over the price of something. It was curious, the server didn't have 2,000 players active on it (he new this for a fact) yet there were still people haggling over prices. He just smiled and shrugged. He was off to go find a starting animal for his endeavorers. As a BeastMaster, it wasn't a uncommon practice to subjugate one or two easily subjugated animals to help land a more difficult one and release the small fries when something worth while had been nabbed.
Stepping out of the city gate he breathed in and looked about at the grasslands that lay before him. Just out from the city gate maybe 100 yards or so was a small figure. He smirked at it and started to make his way out that way across the grassy field.
Red quickly headed south outside of the city. It was hunting time for him. He would generally run into feral domestics around the cities, but today he was going out far. Usually around the bridges to the other island you would find higher level creatures. That was his destination at the moment. He passed by several other players on his way out. He even saw a few monsters in the distance. He figured after he killed a couple of creatures he would head over to WeißerStein to find a quest. Questing was a great way to level up and attain new items. Right now all he carried was basic equipment. The only notable item was his power charm. He was a fast player due to a high athletics but he was not the fastest. He hoped to reach his destination before he was attacked.
Sera sat in her living room controller in hand, her television was muted but lit up every so often as she shot or was shot. Normally having muted sounds would put a gamer at a disadvantage, and that's exactly how Sera wanted to play right now. Recently she had received a new game, Virtual Reality, and a type of MMO. She couldn't however just drop her FPS completely, she had to keep her skills up.
From somewhere behind her a timed alarm went off giving a light sigh she attached her head set and told the group she was playing with that it was time for her to go. With that the console and wide-screen television was shut off.
Turning around she looked toward the timer, the timer was set ontop of a clock and read 2:30 counting down, the clock under it read 6:30, the timer would go off at 9:00 and that was when she would eat her dinner. Practically her entire life was run by the timer, it was the only way she could remember things, or get anything done.
Standing up she made her way through her small apartment over to her couch/bed. With the money she made from tournaments she could get a house, but that removed from her game and food money so she wasn't going for it. On the table infront of the couch sat a computer which was currently attached to a headset. She also had a laptop which she used for actual surfing of the web, but that was currently off to the side and playing her current songs, over 2 days worth of music, currently it was running through her Eisbrecher songs.
She turned the audio down some, just enough that she could still hear it, but not enough that it caused her to not hear the game sounds. Taking her seat on her couch she took one of the pills that came with the game, a muscle relaxant of sorts. Then put on the headset and turned it on.
Within seconds she was brought to the log in screen. "Zeria." She said. There was a brief pause before she felt herself in Itchiras body.
Stretching some Itchira looked around, she was at her usual log in spot of the warp gate in WeißerStein. As she moved down the steps Itchira brought up a few menus, one in particular was a timer which she moved to just out of her sight. That would remind her to log out if she didnt hear her external timer, which happened a few times. The other menus were afew of her basics that she checked, stats, friends, quests, inventory. Those were closed before she touched the main street.
"Where to first?" She asked herself aloud. She was still low level so she would stick to the island, she was mentally running through several quests she needed to complete, trying to figure out which ones she would do.
Ianna pulled shut her front door with a small sigh of relief. It was approaching half past ten at night, and she'd just gotten in from an extremely busy night at the restaurant. This would have been okay if three of the girls weren't 'ill' (coincidentally, it was the final of some reality TV show tonight...), but they were, and the petite blonde had been forced to work overtime to get the menus out, orders taken, food served, and empty plates cleaned up and taken away.
Still, she was back home now, and with no further ado she kicked off her black sling-backs, breathing another sigh of relief as they left her sore feet and skidded onto the wooden floor. Limping a little bit, the eighteen year old stepped through her narrow hallway, into the dingy kitchen, and flicked on the light switch. She trod gingerly over to the fridge, pulling out a slightly congealed plate of last night's pasta, and then slid it into the microwave to heat up for a couple of minutes.
When it was this quiet, the place was kind of eerie, but Ianna had a good head on top of that pretty fine body, and knew better than to jump at every groaning floorboard. Nonetheless, she welcomed the hum of the microwave oven as it worked, if only so to keep her mind off the horror movie she'd seen not too long ago.
When her meal was done, she ate, washed up, and stepped beneath the temperamental shower to rinse off the day's hard work. Despite the sudden cold-hot fluctuations, the sensation of water drumming on her back and sluicing away the day's dirt was relaxing, and when she brushed her teeth and settled down onto her bed, she wanted nothing more than to sleep. This was good, because she was about to play on a game she'd been asked to test from a friend whose parents worked at the company. Generally, she played it in her sleep because there wasn't really a lot of time for her to do it during the day.
The box of sleeping pills was on her bedside table, and she pulled on the headset with a slight grin. Then the pill was in her mouth, and she swallowed before lying back and turning the system on. Her password was easily brought to mind, despite its complexity, and then she was away.
Kaidi opened her eyes. In front of her was Whitestone, exactly where she'd been when last she'd awoken. It was a beautiful place, and she allowed her eyes time to feast upon the beauty, and the smooth visuals, before stepping over the drawbridge and into the city walls. NPCs chattered amongst themselves, and if she didn't know any better, she'd have thought they were real people, roleplaying. As she stepped through the open streets, she watched in awe as the world around her unfolded. This was like a second life.
Still, despite the awe-inspiring complexity of the virtual reality, Ianna was reminded that she had quests to hand in, and a few deliveries that needed to be made, so she engineered Kaidi towards the inn specified in her quest, and continued to gaze around at the stunning architecture. The place was amazing, and, not for the first time, she admired the graphics team who had made all of this.
It wasn't long before the goods had been delivered, and Kaidi hurried out of the inn with discomfort on her face. Several of the customers had had a kind of predatory look to their faces when she came in, and the girl disliked being stared at for any length of time. It was thus with relief that she exited out onto the street, and began to journey across the city towards the gate nearest the river.
Most of the city ended up being drawn away from the hustle and bustle of the cities affairs due to commotion up near the castle. People where crowded around the front of it and looking onwards. They were not actually at the gate of the castle, and rather a good 20 feet back or so, with guards standing between themselves and the doors. The reason behind this was there was a woman standing outside the gate, she was seemingly clad in what appeared to be a deep purple colored armor and had at her hip a rather considerable mace. Her face was long and thin, and her hair was down about her shoulders and green as a summers leaf. She had in her had a scroll of what seemed to be paper and she was reading off of it. (All scrolls had a scroll program programmed into them, so that one could fit several pages worth of writing on a single scroll to reduce the complexity of having to riffle though pages.) She was reading off what appeared to be a notice to the populous, speaking about recent events, recent updates, and general news about it all. The novelty of what she was saying was not what drew people to listen to her and watch her. Everything she read off could be found on the game boards. No, people gathered because the character in question was an administrator and had been running the character on the beta sense before the beta had become the closed beta, back when it was strictly KSI Industries employees testing it, and as such her character level was considerably higher than anyone whom had joined sense the recent closed beta had been sent out. This left the city for the time far less crowded than it had been.
Outside of the city, the first creatures one would come across would be the lvl.1 animals inhabiting the island. [then entire island was scaled only up to lvl.9] These smaller creatures were similar to the small dog sized 'Giant Rats' Wild dogs, and tiny boar.
It was up to one such wild dog that Issac was now approaching. The animal was snarling and when the BeastMaster had taken a few more steps it charged. The lvl.7 beast master swung down with his spear, slashing down on the animal which bit down on his thigh. He pommeled it away and slashed at it a second time, this time missing. jumped back as the feral animal bit at him and he landed a successful slash against the beast and then, activated subjugate. He locked eyes with the animal and the dog snarled, and the snarl slowly turned to a whimper and he lowered his head. Having received the creatures allegiance, Robert got the EXP for having killed it, but no loot, but rather simply the animal itself. He Smiled and pet the dog's head, and sat down, instructing it to do so as well as he waited out for his health and it's to slowly recover.
It was a similar creature that RedXIII found himself coming up on. A tiny wild boar was off to the side of where Red and entered the plains, well within sight of the Ordeal with Issac and the Wild Dog. The boar was not attacking just yet, but it was eying him quite aggressively. It was about 30 ft away. There were other low leveled animals dotted here and there along the plains near the castle, and characters could be seen fighting with them here and there off and on. Over towards the west, a large group of characters where gathered for some reason or another along the plain.
Red saw the boar and drew his pair of katara. The Wild boar's nostril flared as Red drew his weapons. With a grunt of rage the boar the size of dog of average size charged, kicking up dirt in the process as. As it attacked it started out with it's main attack of charge, barreling towards the warrior with it's grim tusks posed towards the attack.
Red Quickly dodged off to the side. The boar was a good thirty feet away so it left him ample oppurtunity to dodge its attack. He thrust his left hand katara towards the boars side.
As the boared flaied about it struck Reds leg causing a deep gash. Enraged by the cut he thrust his katara closest to the boar down towards the base of the boars spine.
The boar squealed as the blow was landed and activated rage and struck at Red once more.
Red lept over the boar dodging the attack and came down towards the boar with both blades of the katara.
The boar sent it's head ripping upwards as Red leaped into the air and as the warrior came down goring the character once again, this time while in the air, the only moderately agile warrior had no hope of dodging. However at the same time, the attack coming down upon the boar took it's health to 0 and the boar fell over with a squealing grunt and expired.
Red looked down at his body and the blood coating the metal. He sighed as he bent down and began to loot the body.
The boar yielded 'soft boars hide' a material that in of itself despite it's name could not be made into hide armor, but if enough was gathered it could be be used to make pieces of leather equipment by a tanner.
The boar's corpse didn't offer up any other bounty.
As he got up he noticed the group of players near him. He slowly began to limp over towards them as his health went up.
A clear screen opened up as she walked through the streets of WeißerStein, the screen displayed quest details. Simple swaying of her hand causing the text to scroll, or a different quest to appear. All of this could easily be done with a thought, but she liked moving her hands to do it. Afew of her quests were various collection quests, others were 'kill X beast', and afew were go here, she moved the ones that she couldn't handle yet, then the ones that remained she plotted onto a map which showed where to go.
Some of the creatures she had to kill were right on a path leading to one of the people she had to speak to for a quest. "Sweet." She said aloud. Turning she started out of the city plotting her path onto her minimap so she wouldn't get lost, or more exactly so she wouldn't deviate, before placing the minimap on the bottom right of her screen
She left the city from its north exit and continued on. Her quests that she had marked were simple kill boars, and rats, along with a talk to the fisherman near the river. Her eyes were open, she didn't want to be taken by surprise by a higher level than she was ready for. Her prime focus was that fisherman though as that would boost her EXP, not enough to level, but enough to get her closer. Plus he may have another quest for her.
The plains out to the north of the city were infested with Giant rats. These little hellions were only lvl. one creatures, but at the same time the plain was pock marked with groups of them. They were usually in groups of 2 or three. They were roughly the size of a small dog, and though they were not very tough, the numbers made it more difficult for level 1 players. There was a slight breeze that blew up from the plane that now doubt came from the river far off across it. The breeze, you could feel it. the only virtual game where you could feel the breeze. Players could feel everything. Well, save for damage. The stimulus regulators transitioned damage and health point lost into dull, not really painful thuds, or tingles rather than sharp stabs and shocks.
It was carried on that breeze that came towards the walking necromancer, that a scream was heard. Out in the plain, just about 50 feet or so farther there was a woman running away from rats. It would seem that in the process of trying to fight one group, she had accidentally drew the attention of a second, and she now had four rats chasing behind her, their long tails whipping up and down after the bounds of their own furry bodies. The woman in question seemed to be caring a single dagger and was garbed in what seemed to be leather armor. The basic starting equipment for thieves. (similar to that of assassins, only the leather was a lighter brown for thieves and assassins began with two daggers.) The woman, spotting the other character seemed to be thinking her salvation had come, and redirected her course towards the robed woman. Shouting "HEEELLLP MEEEEEE!!!" hysterically as she ran towards her.
Itchira walked toward her target, the rats ignored her more or less, so long as she didn't get close enough to aggro them. Sure she had to kill some rats for a quest, but she didn't want to aggro unnecessary creatures.
There was a breeze, which felt good, this always surprised Itchira though as she never expected to feel a breeze in a game. But this game activated quite afew stimuli, smells and even taste to some extent. And it made her wonder about higher level areas. Would the snow feel cold, would the deserts feel hot? She would find out at a later level of course.
Her semi-out-of-it state was broken by the sounds of a woman screaming. Looking around Itchira saw a woman running away from a group of rats. Possibly got some adds while fighting another, it had happened to her before. When the woman noticed her she turned and started toward her. Itchira brought her staff to the ready and started thinking of her spells. The woman could use help, and she wasn't going to give Itchira the option of backing out.
"I take it you need help?" She asked more as a joke.
The woman just screamed and bolted around behind Itchira as the rats perused her. The combat that fallowed seemed to be something out of a circus routine; the woman running around with the rats chasing her, turning only ever so often to strike at them before turning to run once more while the necromancer cast drain health spells over and over at the furry pursuers. Eventually one of them fell to the various assaults, leaving the necromancer with a fresh body which she waisted no time in raising into a zombie rat and sent it out to battle the still living specimens. This proved all the more comical seeing as the woman was being chased by rats who were in turn themselves being chanced by a undead rat. If scooby doo had real monsters, this would likely be a routine.
At last, after the woman was in near critical state and the Necromancer had nearly exhausted her mana, the final rat fell, leaving the zombie rat, the necromancer, and the mystery woman whom had collapsed to the ground panting as she desperately tried to catch her breath and recover her health. She suddenly wrapped her arms around the other womans legs. "th......thank....you...." She panted breathlessly.
far off from the commotion, south of Kleinerturz, RedXIII approached the large group of characters off to the side. There was a few things that could be noted as he drew near. They seemed to be separated into two groups, each with around 10 or 15 people on each side. The two groups were shouting back and forth, boasting, and jesting at each other. And someone had brought up a public menu with a local map on it.
Public minus allowed members to show normally private menus that only the user in question can see to other members. This one was sowing the island itself and the people seemed to be bickering over various spots they were pointing at.
The battle ended and Itchira scavenged one of the closest rats finding a rats tail. It was used in alchemy, but Itchira would probably sell it. The dead rat moved over and stopped next to Itchira simply standing there looking off into space, waiting for its next order.
'Wha?' Itchira exclaimed as the woman wrapped her arms around her legs, Itchira just barely kept her balance. Slowly she dropped to a sitting position. "Your welcome." She said, "I'm Itchira." As per normal her voice was calm, sweet even.
She would remain seated for a while as she needed to gain back her Hp and Mana, she wasn't low in Hp taking only a few hits in the fight, but her mana was very low.
The woman had slowly began to regain her Breath. Now that her breathing had began to com regularly and it seemed that she wasn't in as critical a state anymore she smiled. "High, I'm Sarah, or um, well, the character is S-20." She said with a big grin. "Thank you so, SO much. I thought I was going to die again." She said, leaving the question of how many times she had died already. It wasn't a common practice to give one's actual name during a game, and from her behavior it would seem she hadn't played many of them and wasn't very used to it. She looked over and noticed the undead rat and she drew back a little bit slightly perturbed before looking back to her savior. "So what are you doing?" she inquired, curious as to what Itchira was aiming for at the moment.
Now that things had calmed, the character could be seen to have a round, yet proportionate face, with slight freckles and a bit of a button nose. She had brown hair with streaks of blue in it and was cut short. Her eyes where purple and she seemed genuinely exhausted, though she was recovering steadily.
After wandering about the city for a bit, enjoying the sights and sounds (but not the smell), Aleena decided that Nyinn should probably do something productive. As she was still low leveled, some leveling seemed in order. But Aleena didn't really feel like taking the time to just kill a bunch of rats. Getting a quest would certainly give her a fair amount of exp, plus that of anything she killed along the way. Yes, Aleena thought, getting a quest is the best way to increase my level...As long as it's not one of those stupid seven part quests. Maybe a shopkeeper will need an errand run.
Making her way towards the concentration of shops near the fountain, Nyinn kept alert for pickpockets. She wasn't sure if thieves could steal from other players or if there NPCs that stole, in any case caution was the best course of action. Just in case. With that thought in mind Nyinn began looking for a likely looking NPC.
Red sheathed his weapons as he pulled up a map. He was a good distance from the city. What are these people doing out here he thought. He approached the group and stepped in between them. It seemed they were having a debate of sorts. What are yall doing? he said as he turned towards one of the groups. Maybe they were doing a group quest of sorts. If that was the case maybe he could join them.
WhiteRock had a large selection of NPC's. It was the highest concentration of them in the region, seeing as it was the largest of the two cities found there. There was always quests to be hand from many of the NPC's, however NPC's are particular about what quests they give to who. They are also not likely to give a quest to someone that is registered as a difficulty equivalent to two levels above the characters level. Though this of course is dependent on the NPC in question because some will be just fine sending people out on a suicide mission. Also the NPC's do not specifically run though the same missions for everyone who comes to see them. NPC's have a complete AI, and they know what it is that they need. A merchant who's a particular stock is low will give quests for someone to go get the stocked item they need. And when they have restocked, no longer offer that quest less they run low again. [this of course causes some competition within with some quests for some NPC's to finish the quest fast enough to return before someone else finishes it, though often times NPC's will accept the quest completion even if the quest has already been finished by someone who took it before. It all depends on the NPC, the Quest, and the time and need.] But there are some that are always offering quests, such as a blacksmith will likely always be offering a quest to get ore for their work. The NPC's when they have a quest, register them to the server and a small dot will appear on the local map for all those players who are within two levels below the quest as to inform them were the quest can be found. This all is not important to the players so much, the finer back workings are simply support, as for the players, they can just look on the mini maps and see who's offering a quest around them. [though some NPC's have quests and do not register them for particular reasons.]
It was on such a local map that Nyinn would find several quests. There was two guards that offered them, one at the city gate and one near the castle gate, there was 4 merchants, one in a booth shop and three in full building shops, there was a peddler who was pushing about a cart down in the low shop section, and there was a citizen NPC whom was over near the fountain. The choice was hers as to who she would go to inquire of.
Farther North, outside the city of Klein, the two groups were arguing. When Red stepped in between the two groups who were only maybe a persons with apart anyways, one person pushed him back out of the way quite roughly. "What's yer bleed'n grot yeh prat! Yeh step'n in a'tween people." The female character barked in what seemed to be a rather thick brogue. Several others confirmed the sentiment with harsh words agreement. Over to the side and back just a ways to the left of Red sat a male character that red hadn't noticed prior who chuckled at the sight. He didn't seem to be actively partaking of the scuffle and he had beside him a great sword. "Best ta not get between them lad, you're liable ta get yerself clouted." He said. The two groups were going on about a pass and most of the groups had brogues too thick to understand at the speed they were talking.
Itchira smiled back to the woman as she spoke, the woman gave her real name, a rarity among the online community. It was normally reserved between friends, real life or just online ones that you get really buddy/buddy with. "I'm Itchira." She said as she held out her hand, offering a handshake to the woman.
Itchira also took note of the unsettled feeling that her undead rat was giving the woman, it was typical, few liked the...detail that went into the undead creatures. With a light mental command she ordered the rat to go wait by a tree, the path to the tree and back was clear so there should be no trouble.
Once the rat left Itchira said, "I have a few quests I am going to do, 'Talk to the fisherman', 'killing some rats for a guard', and 'gathering some hides for the tanner' I figure getting as close to completing those before I log for a bit to get ready for sleep would be best."
Itchira played the game in her sleep, not because she wanted to but rather because she simply could, after all what gamer could honestly say that they wouldn't play games in their sleep if they could.
S-20 smiled. "It's a pleasure to meet you Ichira." She said and took the hand, shaking it, and then added "Thank you" when the rat was sent off. "You're doing quests Hu? is it alright if I come along? I promise I won't get in the way, and I can even boost you luck." She said with a pleading look in her eyes. It was true, thieves were one of only only class that got additions to luck, and they were the only class that had a party buff for it. Luck was very important. Most players couldn't alter their luck, but it dictated the chance and quality of salvage from monsters, a well as from treasure chests. It also held a small bonus for every aspect of the game, such as striking, dodging, damage, and chance of of a critical hit.
"I'm only a lvl two, and I'm not very good at this game yet. I've never really played many video games like this and you can keep most of the loot, I just really don't want to die again." She said. The persons behavior was strange, childish considering the way she asked and seemed to be so worried. Also being rather new to this kind of game is odd for someone who got the closed beta, but the girl seemed very animate about forming a party.
Monet sighed some as she opened her door to her home, it was a very neat and tidy but quite small apartment. She had spent the last few hours in class, she was currently learning to be a programmer. It was tedious, but the end result would be nice, her reminder of that being her games she played.
She fixed herself some dinner, which was only mac and cheese for now. She sighed some, it would be nice to get more money, because different food would be really nice.
By the time she finished eating she washed the few dishes used then started into her bedroom where she booted up her computer then took a sleeping pill. She started getting everything set up while the pill took effect. She found it easier to play while asleep, sure it was still early, only about 7:15, but at the same time she had classes early in the morning so this was actually a good idea.
As she lay down with the headset on she slowly fell asleep the game enveloping her as she did. Her password logged and suddenly she was in the game. A light stretch to make sure everything was good before she looked around. She logged right at the gates of Kleinerturz, exactly where she logged out at.
Miz grinned before starting to walk out of the gates, she accepted only one quest at a time, as a focus thing. Her current quest was to kill some wild dogs. Miz gave a light laugh as she said aloud, "Zeit bis zur Schlachtung ein paar wilde Hunde." With that she set off.
Monet had told her father that she wanted to play the game to help her learn to code, that it will help her analyze bugs and learn from their coding, however that was pretty much just bullshit. She would learn a few things but the truth was she just wanted to play the game.
Itchira smiled some more as S-20 shook her hand, then lightly laughing when she thanked her for sending the rat away. Itchira figured that when the game was finally released there would be very few necromancers because of the whole 'dead' thing.
S-20 then asked for them to party up, Itchira thought about it some before giving a light nod, "Alright." She said before bringing up the option and sending it, "I could use some help also, I'm only level three. Though the rat over there will be our tank until I can find a boar." Itchira made a light motion toward her dead rat, which was sitting by the tree, waiting for Itchira to call it back.
It looked creepy the way its eyes stared blankly at her, Itchira had to admit that. Plus the smell, though virtual, was not that great. Beyond those it wasn't all that bad, perhaps next she would see what a skeleton looked like, hopfully it would be less putrid.
The area around Kleinerturz was inhabited mainly be small boar and wolves. The highest concentration of Wild dog being farther south on the island around WhiteRock. But there were quite a few packs of them roaming about the region in general, it was simply a question of finding them. The area that they roamed might be a bit of a handful to try and navigate. But the breeze of the river swept up and by the grappler. There was the group of people off to the side with their row, and off in the distance there was what seemed to be a horseman. Mounts were devilishly expensive, and hard to get. They were even harder to keep because they had a habit of being attacked by creatures particularly found of their flesh. Though some beast masters had taken to trying to subjugate beasts or aggressive wild animals for mounts to reduce the problem of cost and of them being targeted as food. Not many have succeeded however due to the general nature of the task. Because just because they were subjugated, didn't mean they were fit as mounts.
S nearly knocked the necromancer over with a hug when she agreed to party with her. "THANK YOU!" She said with a wide grin. "Oh," She said and then reached out fiddling with a personal menu. She seemed to not be too good at working them all mentally just yet, so she did it manually. A moment later the tingle of party grouping started. It was a brief sensation, and disappeared soon enough. She seemed to be beaming at having gained a partner. "So, where do you want to go first?" she asked as she looked over at her new companion, her eyes bright with excitement. It was an innocence that many games loose over the years, the simply pleasures of the little things in games. Many times it was lost when one gamed long enough or got used enough to a game.
On the other side of the city but also in the plains, Issac had set his sights on another wild dog. This time there was two of them. He wouldn't be able to subjugate them both, because though he was able to just handle up to the three dogs with his will score, he couldn't chance subjugating one, and waiting around for the ability to reload as the other dog attacked and possibly killed on of the two he then had. So instead he planned to subjugate the one, and then have both attack along with him and kill the third outright. Approaching the two wild dogs, he pointed his spear and shouted "Angriff!" and both he and his own dog charged the two...
Itchira was taken by surprise when S hugged her, nearly knocking her over. "You're welcome?" She said slowly, she didn't think that S wanted a group bad enough to hug her like that. She watched as S manually fiddled with the air, she knew what she was doing because she did it too. However Itchira was used to messing with the menus mentally, she just liked doing things manually.
A light tingle told Itchira the party system had worked, where she was then asked where she wanted to go. "Well I figured I would stop by the fisherman see if he had any quests for me, then go kill more rats for the guards, I only need to kill three more now. Is there any quests you need to do?" She hadn't mentioned it but she was currently looking through her quest list for any way of sharing quests.
Itchira rather enjoyed being around S, the innocence was refreshing. The love of the little enjoyments that the games bring. Sera had not completely lost her own, but she did block it. You needed to be competitive to be a pro gamer, but it was her remaining innocence that made her remain a good sport when winning and losing, she was just playing for the fun of the game.
