Hana walked slowly up to the school, carrying a large, heavy looking suitcase. She pushed the front doors open with her shoulder and the noise of the students chattering erupted in her ears. She cringed with a slight whimper but kept pushing forwards. The noise got louder as she approached the cafeteria. She did a quick turn to the right, her luggage almost pulling her to the ground as she did so. She thumped her luggage down with a sigh of relief and opened her room, 107. She threw her luggage onto one of the beds and prayed she wouldn't get a roomate, or at least not one like that year. Stuck up, snobby, rude, and a total slob. She rested for a minute before pulling herself up off the bed, grabbing a chocolate bar from out of her purse that was slung over her shoulder, and heading to the cafeteria. Hana headed towards a table with a few girls sitting at it, but the looks they gave her made her turn in the other direction. A boy ran into her and knocked her to the ground, glaring at her like she did something wrong as he walked away. She pulled herself up off the ground and moved into a secluded corner to stay out of everyones way.She stood and looked around for a second before spotting a table with a few people she knew and didn't know, and figured it was her best bet to sit there. She walked over, stumbling a few times and stood beside and empty chair. "May i sit here?...." She asked in her usual quiet manner. She smiled shyly and examined the people at the table, noticing that Dr.Volerus was there. Edited by Bittersweet Silence, July 20, 2010, 2:16 am.

![]() Aki waited anxiously for a reply from the teacher. It would be wonderful to meet another vampire. Her mother was the only true vampire she had ever met. For Aki had never considered herself a vampire, nor did she consider herself a demon. She was all herself, an odd half-breed creation maybe never to be made again. Aki glanced over at the other students and saw their stunned and confused expressions. It was then that she began to realize that asking that may not have been such a safe question. "No," was his reply, "Though I find myself curious to know why you would ask such a question of me." "M-My mother is a vampire," she replied in a small voice. This man was quite intimidating, the way he stared at her with those strange purple eyes. Dr. Volerus continued the conversation he was having with the other boy, before Aki had interrupted with her question. Other questions were burning in her mind. If he wasn't a vampire, then what was he? There was something she couldn't place about him, something that so distinctly reminded her of her mother. She stared at him, her red eyes searching for answers. It hit her like a ton of bricks. He was dead. Vampires are not living creatures, they are dead, and with Aki's affinity for death she could tell that this man was not living. It was the feeling that her vampire mother gave her as well. All other beings had a warmth about them, their presence was different. Aki knew of no other species of walking dead, none but vampires. "But you're dead!" Aki blurted out, once again interrupting conversations. |

![]() Leena closed her eyes and took a deep breath. She had to act normal, like a human. why would a human be so attached to an item like that. Normal humans do not normally freak out like she just did. Leena needed a reason that she could use, or people were going to get suspicious and try and figure out what she was. Leena could not afford that. Even if she trusted these people, what if they told someone else? If her true form got out there, it could lead to her being landlocked. And how would she save her mother like that? "No need to apologize. It's understandable. I'm just glad nothing came of that." Leena looked up at Nika began to talk to her, someone said it was understandable, it made her seem more human. "M-My mother gave it to me," Leena began, spinning a quick lie, "She's gone now, so it's special to me." In a sense, she was telling the truth. Is not our whole body a gift from our mothers? And her mother was gone, not dead, but gone. Sahiba changed back into her human form and began to console Leena. She seemed to feel bad for what she did. But she had no reason to, she had no idea what she was doing. "I'm so sorry, hun... I didn't even think before I came over to you... I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable..." "It's fine," Leena responded, "I overreacted. I just fear someone would steal it from me. And I would be lost without it..." She hesitated, trying to lead the story back to her mother and not to herself, "It was the last thing my mother gave to me before she left." Leena managed a weak smile at the group, nodding her head to show that she was fine now. |

![]() Alexis & Alexander Location: Front Entrance The road seemed longer than the map provided indicated. "Are you doing okay? I'll carry the bags if they're too heavy." The girl murmured, following closely to her double walking just behind her carrying two heavy suitcases and panting lightly from their long walk. "No, it's fine. I've got this." The male replied, he continued keeping his straight stance so his sister would not worry. "You know I hate it when you lie to me. Gimme that!" The girl said suddenly, she reached back and ripped the suitcase from her brother's hand and suddenly fell to the ground with the bag pulling her to a face-plant on the dirt. The boy panicked and stopped walking, "Alexis. Don't push yourself. I'll carry the bags, so let it go." he helped his sister up off the ground and she refused to let go of the suitcase. "I won't. It's my bag, I have the responsibility to carry it. Don't take the burden by yourself." Taken back, The boy began walking again with the girl following close behind him. Dragging along slowly, the boy then stopped again and turned around and grabbed his sister's arm. "Xander what are you do-!" Before she had the time to finish, the boy had put his sister on his back to carry her the rest of the way. "You're too tired Alexis, your power triggering confirms it. We're almost there, so just let me carry you the rest of the way. You're my sister, you're never a burden." Alexis smiled, she and Alexander had been traveling for days to finally reach the school, and were exhausted from the trip. Upon reaching the front gate, smiles fell on both of their faces as they gazed upon their new home. Edited by BlueNami, July 20, 2010, 2:58 am.

![]() Raphael rather plainly tensed when that freshman blurted out that he was dead. Who was this girl? She had said her mother was a vampire, which would explain why she wasn't exactly acting like she was afraid of him. His strange lilac eyes fixed on the girl again, though there was increased intensity in his gaze. "Perhaps you should not make such accusations," he said, a strange note of command in his voice. It wasn't there when he continued, "You are mistaken, and considering how children your age can be, rumors like that can get very out of hand..." Had that note of command been there at all? Huh. Hard to say. It certainly had been there, though. He was unsure if it would work on the freshman considering her half-vampire heritage, but he was trying to plant that suggestion in her head to control her actions for the time being. Horrible invasion of her mind, he knew, he it was called for. He didn't want her to keep blurting out that he's dead and a vampire. If his little secret was going to be common knowledge, then he would rather be the one to tell it. Not a student. Raphael looked over at another student who was looking to join the table. He had had enough of socializing for the time being. Being accused of being a vampire--true that it may be--wasn't something that he enjoyed when he was trying to keep the students from knowing that about him. "You can have this seat if you wish," he said to the newcomer, rising to his feet. He sounded friendly enough, but it was clear that his mood was off from what Aki had said. To Sabet, he said, "We will continue our discussion another time. Enjoy the rest of the day." He certainly wasn't. With that, he strode out of the cafeteria, avoiding the sunlit patches just like before. Once out, he began to head back to his room. He was going to get some rest before nightfall. And drink that blood packet in his pocket. It really was calling to him right now, especially since he was so annoyed. ![]() "Wow," Daen remarked after watching Dr. Volerus leave. "I... Wow... I've never heard of Dr. Volerus fleeing like that." And Raphael had certainly fled. Aki had been making too many accusations--accurate ones, no less--and he had fled to avoid more of them. And what was that weird thing that Raphael had done, though? That odd note in his voice... Well, he wasn't going to put much more thought into it. He sat back in his chair casually and looked at the others sitting at the table. "So for you freshman who do not know, that was Dr. Volerus, teacher of Chemistry, Biology, and every science in between." He'd heard a good deal about that guy. And he had been sure to sign up for a class with him. Just to see those little antics that the man sometimes pulled. |

Kael Leena's reaction was about what Kael had come to expect - instant, intense and full of fear, like an animal that was backed up into a corner. He sighed as she seemed to calm herself down and started apologizing for her sudden outburst. Kael discreetly glanced around and noticed there were quite a few of the other students looking their way in confusion and surprise. Nika's reassurance drew his attention to the table again though, and then Sahiba returned to her human form and apologized as well. Kael... wasn't really sure what he should say. He remembered the story she told him last year when she showed the same level of protective possessiveness for her seal skin and it didn't match up with what she just said. He glanced at her, but he decided not to make this known. Instead, he gave her a few gentle pats on the shoulder and withdrew his hand again. At any rate, he was done eating and had already picked Leena's leftovers from her tray other than her french fries. So, he stood up and said, "I'm done. I'm going outside now." Of course, with his social skills still needing improvement, he forgot to add in an invitation. He dumped his tray at a trashcan and started out the door, stuffing his hands into his pockets. Once he was outside, he was greeted with the site of Ryoku sitting by himself on a bench. Kael quirked an eyebrow, but walked by nonetheless, keeping his distance, and said, "Hello Ryoku." He turned his hazel orbs on the edge of the forest and looked for one of the many familiar walking trails he had acquainted himself with over the years, picked one, and started walking through the woods. Zack He had almost made it. The library was in sight and its wide doors were open, as if inviting him to come inside, grab a good book, sit down and relax for a while. The library was supposed to be getting some new books, some of them related to biology and particularly with some of the latest breakthroughs in cellular research. Then a girl came out of the blue around a corner and bumped into him. He was knocked off-balance, but caught himself pretty easily. The girl, however, tumbled to the ground. Zack quickly moved over to the teenage girl as she started to apologize and hid the scarlet face he had just seen behind a fan she was carrying with her. He gave her a friendly smile to help her ease her embarrassment and said, "No need to worry about it. I wasn't paying any particular attention to my surroundings either. So it looks like we both goofed up." He laughed and pat her on the shoulder. "I don't believe I've seen you before, are you a new student? I'm Dr. Garrison, the School Physician. A pleasure bumping into you." He flashed her a bright smile. Hopefully, she wouldn't be able to read the turmoil arising in his mind. This young girl looked like such a fragile thing... it would be oh so easy to break her. He had no doubt of that... She seemed shy and soft-spoken. He wondered what she might sound like if he could make her scream... |

![]() Kara laughed uneasily. "Y-yes, this is my first year here. My name is Yamitori Kara." She felt a slight tingling in her skin, which generally meant her ability was acting up, as it often did when she was nervous. She looked down at her clawed feet, and stared, focusing on maintaining her proper coloration. She probably came across as quite rude, staring at her feet in the middle of a conversation, but what could she do? "So you're the school physician?" School physician sounded like a more professional term for a school nurse. So far, she'd gotten to know the nurses well at every school she'd attended, by neccessity. "We'll probably see a lot of each other then." she said, doing her best to make small-talk. "I can be rather careless, though I suppose you already noticed that." Having regained control of her power, Kara looked back up, still not looking him in the eye. She found it easier to look at the mouth or hands. |

Sonny gave Ryan a nod and waved him off as he left, with a seemingly vacant smile on his face. The small boy then slipped into the dorm Ryan had indicated to. The kid gave a small squeak of excitement, finding the room to his liking. It was considering bigger than his old room, which he shared with his twin sisters - them sleeping on an old and rickety bunkbed and him on a mattress on the floor. The time manipulator could see where Ryan's belongings were and crossed the room, slipping his rucksack off his back and placing it on the empty, neatly made up bed. Sonny took a moment, breathing in deeply and smelling the fresh air of the room, enjoying the smell of freshly laundered sheets and a lack of cigarette smoke which was soaked into every piece of furniture in his home. After staring out the window for some time, Sonny seemed to gain a strange, massive burst of energy. He rushed over to his bed and opened up the large rucksack, pulling out his clothing and few things to remind him of home. He place the picture of his family on the dresser then proceeded to put away his clothes in the dressed that was on his side of the room. Once he'd emptied the bag, he folded it and placed it out of sight under the bed. Sonny sighed happily, glad he'd gotten the job of unpacking out the way. Even when there wasn't much to unpack, it was still a boring job. The boy stood in the doorway, surveying the room for a moment with a smile. "I'm going to like this place," he said to himself. He then slipped out the door and followed the crowd down the cafeteria, with the ever-present bounce in his step. Every so often, he'd jump up, attempting to see past the heads of taller students. He gained a few strange looks but that was no different to his life before Hidden Hills. Sonny gave a bright grin once he got to the cafeteria, the thrum of people excited him and the huge variety of people, some human and some seemingly not was incredibly intriguing. The freshman felt a sudden wave he'd felt before, and knew his power was about to act up in a bigger way than normal. He squeezed his eyes shut and tried to quell the brimming energy but it pushed it's way out of him, spilling in waves over the cafeteria and making time skip backwards and forwards sporadically. Sonny felt a few sets of eyes on him, but he tried his hardest to ignore them, searching for a place to sit. |

![]() "Perhaps you should not make such accusations," the teacher responded to her outburst, "You are mistaken, and considering how children your age can be, rumors like that can get very out of hand..." Now Aki knew he was hiding something. And he may very well have a reason to hide his secret, but it was not getting past Aki. She had to know if she was right or not. Her curiosity was nearly unbearable. And the man had just tried to command her to do something. Not in the way a normal person would, but in the way a vampire would. Maybe he had not heard her earlier, but her mother was a vampire. Not only did vampire blood run through her veins, but she had fourteen years of practice in resisting such tactics. Aki giggled to herself. She knew she was right and she was going to prove it. As obvious due to him leaving, Dr Volerus did not want anyone to know of his true race. So Aki would question him further when he was away from these others. And what better time for that then now? She glanced around at the rest of the table. They had continued conversation about her odd questions to the teacher. She needed an excuse to leave that was no entirely suspicious. "Oh..." Aki began, "I seem to have offended him. I should keep my tongue under control! I'm going to go apologize. Bye guys! Thanks for lunch! Hope to see you around!" Aki quickly got up from the lunch table, giving no time for responses from the others, and ran off in the direction that Dr. Volerus had went. She took no time to skirt the sun; it didn't make her terribly uncomfortable anyway. Aki fleeted down the halls, until she spotted her target. She slowed herself down to a calm walk before making her presence known. "Dr. Volerus!" she called out, "I'm sorry about earlier. I'm afraid I didn't introduce myself. I'm Aki Omallia, a new freshman this year." |

![]() Raphael tensed when he heard his name called by that freshman. He weighed the merits of simply ignoring her, but decided against it. The last thing he needed was for her to go around the school blabbing to everyone that he was a vampire. She had obviously figured it out, much to his annoyance. Well, he supposed it was only a matter of time before someone did. "Miss Omallia, I believe you and I need to have a talk," he stated, his tone one of forced calm. It was obviously that he wasn't at all pleased with the situation. Figuring that she might get the wrong idea, he added, "I ensure you I will not cause you harm. Follow me." He'd talk to her in his room. It was the only private place he could think of to have this talk. |

![]() Leena quickly finished the rest of her food; she needed to get out of here and cool down for a bit. Being back in the world of the land was starting to take its toll on her, for sure. Kael mentioned that he too was going outside, so Leena decided to lead off on that, saying she was going outside too. Each move of hers was calculated now. She was in prey mode and she needed to get out of it and snap back into herself, she needed a swim. "I'm going to go out as well," Leena said as she piled up her plates on her tray, "I need a little fresh air." She waved good-bye to the group and walked away from the table. Leena put her tray away and headed outside to the courtyard. She waved and smiled at those she came into contact with as she slowly meandered to a less populated section of campus. Once she was sure no one could see her, she took off running. Her human legs were fast appendages that she was thankful for, despite them being stiff at the moment from misuse. Leena ran across campus and into the woods. She did not have time to make it to the ocean today, but she could at least head toward the secluded pond that she once found in the depths of the forest. She breathed the fresh air of the forest in as she made her way through the trees and branches, heading toward a lake she frequented while she was at Hidden Hills last year. A few more steps and the forest seemed to open up before her revealing a pristine lake, coupled with a small waterfall. It was beautiful. Leena smiled and began to strip off her human clothes. No one was around to see her now; she was free to be who she truly was. Leena dipped a cautious toe into the water, her sealskin the only thing covering her body now. The water felt so refreshing, even though it has only wet her toe. Still smiling, Leena began to unfold her sealskin until it was the size of a full seal. She stuck one leg in it, and then the other, as though it were a pair of pants. Then she slipped it up over her body until it covered most of her. Leena closed her eyes and the change began, in a few moments, where a girl once stood, a small young seal was in her place. The seal barked with happiness and dove into the water, feeling the refreshing substance all over her body. |

![]() Aki was unsure if the teacher would turn around to meet her or not. She near held her breath waiting for his response, and when he turned around, she let it all out in a sigh. She had been right, she could tell by the look in his eye. He did not look pleased that she knew though, this thought was quickly ratified by his response. "Miss Omallia, I believe you and I need to have a talk. I ensure you I will not cause you harm. Follow me." "Okay sir," Aki replied, scurrying to catch up with him. Aki followed him through the halls and to his room. He must want to talk in private to her. She could tell the man would not harm her, at least not anytime soon anyway. And what use would it be to him? Aki was not human or any other natural humanoid, therefore her blood was of no use for vampires. Her parents had tested it themselves, just so they would know exactly how safe she was. Being the unnatural daughter of a exiled vampire is danger enough, but if her blood was worth anything, it would mean more. |

![]() Raphael was somewhat pleased when she decided to follow him. At least he would have this opportunity to speak to her in private and make sure she was very aware that he didn't want the students to know what he was. Surely she would understand his position, considering that her mother was also a vampire. Once to his room, he opened the door and motioned for Aki to step inside. It was dark in there, as usual, though he did turn a light on for Aki's benefit. Damn decent of him, no? Though the window was going to remain covered for obvious reasons. He had no intention of being fried by direct sunlight. As far as furniture went in his room, though, there was a bed, a desk, a bookshelf--heavily laden with books about the sciences, of course--a mini-fridge, and a few other things that were to be expected in a teacher's room. Definitely more stuff than you'd find in a student's room. His bookshelf even had some interesting items on it, including a few sand dollars and the remnants of a sea urchin. "Have a seat if you wish, Miss Omallia," he invited, indicating the chair at his desk. Despite his obvious annoyance with Aki, he was being surprisingly courteous. |

![]() Aki stepped slowly into the Dr. Volerus's room. The place was dark but full of interesting things that Aki admired with great intrigue. A teacher's room was very different from a student's room. Dr. Volerus turned on a light, which she assumed was for her. She smiled at the gesture, knowing that vampires prefer the dark. She held her tongue on mentioning that she too preferred darkness to light because he had been kind enough to think of providing her with light. "Have a seat if you wish, Miss Omallia." "Thank you," Aki said, sitting down in the chair he offered her, "What is it that you wanted to say to me, sir?" She had noted by now that he was annoyed with her. Aki had never meant for that to happen. Her questions had just sprung out of her curiosity and unfiltered mouth. She smiled timidly at him, attempting to win him over as she did almost everyone else. Aki had never met another vampire before; she did not want him to dislike her. |

He lowered the hood of the cloak he was wearing, revealing his long black hair that was tied back in a high ponytail. Hopefully this conversation would not take very long. He still had that packet of blood in his pocket, waiting for him to drink it. And though Aki had him figured out, he wasn't going to drink that blood in front of her. "As I am sure you have already discovered," he stated, still leaning against the door, "I am indeed a vampire. I apologize for my attempt to silence your comments before I departed, but you left me little other choice. For all of the years that I have been teaching at this school, I have done what I could to keep the students from knowing what I am. Your questions and comments were quite understandably a cause of concern." |

Zack Ah, so she was a freshman? And such an interesting name, to boot! And it seemed his initial estimates about her were correct. She shyly avoided eye-contact and focused more on other things around his face. That and there was the attempt to contain her power. It was something he'd gotten pretty good at spotting. Even if they didn't realize it, every freshman got the same kind of tense posture about them when they tried to keep it contained. Some also had some bizarre ways that they tried to keep it in and it always proved entertaining to watch them. "So you're the school physician?" He nodded, keeping his bright smile and observing her. "We'll probably see a lot of each other then. I can be rather careless, though I suppose you already noticed that." His smile widened just a touch as he felt his mind simply spark into an explosion of 'what ifs' and 'maybes.' So many opportunities for fun... oh he'd have her as his broken plaything and screaming in no time if this was true... He felt his muscles in his back tense and he tried to reign himself in. Think calm thoughts, think pleasant thoughts... think non-violent thoughts... yes... that's good... He resisted the urge to take a deep breath and stemmed the brief silence that had emerged from going on any longer by saying, "Well then, I hope we get to know each other, Miss Kara. Perhaps in time, you'll feel comfortable enough around me to be able to show your face without shame. It's a pity that you keep such a pretty face covered up." |

Steven "Spike" Smith In his own little word, Spike slowly drifted away to sleep. Keeping his head upright by his left hand at the chin, his head nonetheless was slowly beginning to slide off. Furthermore, he was very unaware of Daen's explanation of this "Dr. Volerus". He simply didn't want to be here; in fact, he was even dreaming about leaving this darned place and staying the hell away from his parents. "Goodbye, hidden hills!", the teenager yelled in his dream; Running like a freaking madman to the outside of the school, he began to laugh gleefully, ecstatic at how he was finally going to leave this damned area---Though the emotional teenager had felt a buzz in his right pants pocket--In fact, it was his cell phone, which he thought to be left at his own home. "Huh? Well, I guess I ought to answer the stupid thing..Though I'll be darned if it's my parents!" he hissed unhappily, sliding his right hand into the jeans pocket; Seeing as how he was apparently wearing his gloves, nothing would end up getting damaged--But that wasn't the case. "Well, let's see what's going on--AAHH!" Spike shrieked. In trying to grab his hone his entire pants clean off--And he could hear blaring, wicked laughter in the background--However, could not make out their faces for some otherworldly reason...But two of thir voices, he could definitely remember--his mother and father. "Hey, look at the nitwit who can't even his pants on!" "Man, his folks must be some kind of--" "SHUT UP UP! SHUT UP! SHUT THE...HUH?" Spike wildly exclaimed, suddenly waking up--His eyes wide open, he briefly turned his head around the area to see that he was still (un)fortunately in the cafeteria. Taking in deep breaths, the super-strong sophmore, began to calm himself down, slightly relieved that it was just all a dream... |

Nika Ookamidai Location: Cafeteria / Courtyard For a moment, Nika was shocked when the kitten reverted to her human form, but quickly calmed herself, seeing that her mental inquiry was indeed correct. Not to mention the fact that the kitten was actually Sahiba, a senior girl that she had seen several times in previous years, but never knew her enough to talk to her. Sahiba's sincere apology, even coupled with Nika's own reassuring didn't calm Leena down completely, but that was to be expected. Nika nodded after hearing Leena explain the significance of that scarf. Though she couldn't quite understand why she wouldn't let anyone so much as touch it, she could see why she didn't want Sahiba on it. "I'm done. I'm going outside now." "I'm going to go out as well. I need a little fresh air." Hearing Kael and Leena's respective parting words, Nika decided it was time she left as well. "I'll be on my way as well," she said, grabbing her tray and emptying it into the nearest garbage bin on her way out, sparing the coffee, which she hadn't finished. Originally, she was going to head back to her dorm, but once she exited into the courtyard, she decided to sit outside for a while. She made her way to a tree (which, thankfully enough, was unoccupied), and jumped into it, seating herself there. |

![]() Kara recoiled slightly at the physician's last comment. His comment about her face struck her as rather creepy. Regardless, though, it would probably be fore the best if she trusted him. After all, she figured she'd need his services well before the year's end. Despite this, it might be best if she went to the library some other time. Unsure of quite how to respond to his remark, Kara nodded subtly, hoping to at least acknowledge she had heard him. "Well, I still have some unpacking to do," she lied, somewhat unconvincingly, "so I'd better get back to my dorm." With that, she turned around and nervously headed towards her dorm. She felt guilty about lying to him, but her nerves were really getting to her, and she needed to be alone. It didn't help that she was awful at lying. |

Matthew Hunter “The food here is absolutely excellent!” Matthew said, smiling while chewing on a freshly cooked rabbit. Catching the rabbit hadn’t be hard at all for Matthew with his experience in certain situations and with his powers; it took roughly only 10 minutes to find one and kill it. Starting the fire was the only real problem. He had left his matches in his dorm room and didn’t want to leave his food for other animals to feed on. He had managed to collect enough tinder and then make enough sparks from the rocks to get it to light. Now he sat next to his fire (which was mostly smoke now) with a nice piece of meat on a stick. Looking around now he could see a trail branching off to the right and also faintly hear the sound of water somewhere off in the distance. The forest was very dense with large evergreens and maple trees littering the ground with there roots. Matthew adjusted himself on the log that he was sitting on and started to reach for another piece of meat. “Whatever they have in the cafeteria can not be as good as this.” He said with a smirk on his face. After finishing off the meat he looked down at his hands, all covered with fur and blood. “I better get this cleaned or someone will think I have killed another person again.” With that said he started to look around the fire for his equipment that he had laid down early to not get blood all over them. |

Kael Kael's walk through the forest wasn't really a directed one, other than avoiding paths that sent him back towards the school. As he wandered, he could hear the distant sound of a waterfall and unconsciously began following a zigzagging path towards it. As he got closer, he also heard someone or something running through the woods at full tilt. He quirked an eyebrow and paused a moment, looking around and trying to see, but he couldn't see who it was. Just that it probably wasn't an animal. He decided to ignore it though, and kept moving on his way. Eventually, the lake that he'd found over his first summer at the school came into view. But that wasn't the only thing he saw. No, he also saw a girl's clothes lying on the ground. He blinked as he stared at them and realized they were the same clothes Leena was wearing before. Although he didn't see her seal skin anywhere. He scratched the back of his head and looked around the lake. He didn't see her anywhere... then something splashed in the water and drew his eyes in that direction. It hadn't surfaced long enough for him to tell exactly what it was, but he knew it wasn't human. He glanced at Leena's discarded clothing again and indecision hit him for a brief moment. Leave or stay? If Leena was around, she was naked. And he didn't doubt that she'd be devastated if he saw her. He sighed and moved over to where her clothes were and picked them up, folding them and setting them in a neat stack on a flat-head rock. He couldn't keep his face from heating up a bit handling her undergarments, but once that was done he stepped back away from them and looked back towards the lake. Leena's earlier actions about her seal skin came to mind and he also thought about the first time he'd seen her freak out about it. He knew there were people that worried about objects to that degree, but Leena was hiding something. And then there was the way her manner of speaking had been stilted earlier. He could guess well enough that she wasn't human and it had something to do with her seal skin... but that was it. That was all he could gather. He shook his head, I guess I could go to the library some time and look it up... He walked away from where he left Leena's clothes and sat down on a rock nearer to the water, looking out over the water and up at the waterfall. He closed his eyes and took a slow, deep breath. Zack Dr. Garrison quirked an eyebrow at the freshman girl's startled demeanor. Perhaps she didn't take compliments too well? Low self-esteem maybe? His mind shoved aside his desire to do harm and went into doctor-mode as he observed her behavior and her nervous excuse as she started to leave. He knew she was lying, that he'd made her uncomfortable, but he made no attempt to stop her or reprimand her for it. He simply waved after her and said, "Very well. Be sure to relax and enjoy yourself today. Tomorrow the excitement begins." When she was gone, he let out a sigh and shrugged his shoulders, "Well, so much for first impressions, I suppose." He chuckled and adjusted his glasses as he watched her receding form. He caught himself eying her slim form, evaluating how much punishment she could take without being in danger of death. His smile faded and turned into a frown as he glanced at the library. He wanted to go and read... but he had so much pent up urges, he wasn't sure he'd be able to relax and enjoy a good book. He rubbed the bridge of his nose with a grumble and wondered if Raphael was otherwise occupied. The vampiric teacher was no doubt staying cooped up in his room for the day. He took the stairs up to the next floor and headed straight for the teacher dorms, finding his way to Raphael's door. He knocked on the door and said, "Dr. Raphael, would you happen to be in?" |

Beautiful Mistake

![]() Aki listened to Dr. Volerus's explanation and apology. He admitted it, she had been right all along. At least she could trust her instincts now, she was a bit worried that if she was wrong her trust in her own gut feelings would be down. But she had been right. Oh! Another vampire. It was quite exciting really. Her mother didn't talk much of her race, just that they sent her away due to something that had to do with her father. Her father too had been sent away from others of his kind. "I've never met another vampire," Aki said excitedly, "But do not worry. Your secret is safe with me. I will not bring it up again." Aki smiled at him, nearly beaming now. To be taught by a vampire was an exciting thing. She wondered what her mother would think of it. Hopefully she got into some of Dr. Volerus's classes. She was not sure if he liked her, but she already liked him. Then again, Aki liked almost everyone. It was nice to have a presence that felt like her mother's at school too. The dead were a comforting thing. But vampires were another story. They were dead and living at the same time, and that was a strangely soothing presence. |

![]() Raphael actually smiled when Aki told him she would not bring up what he was again. That was a relief, for sure. So hopefully he wouldn't have to worry about her telling anyone else what he was. The teachers all knew, of course, and they also knew that Raphael didn't want the students to know. "I would appreciate that greatly," he said smoothly, still smiling. He seemed to be much less annoyed with her now that they'd had this conversation. Though when he heard that knock on the door and the sound of the physician's voice, that smile faltered somewhat. He wondered what the man wanted, calling on Raphael during the day. He motioned for Aki to come to the door before he opened it, saying to her, "I hope you enjoy the rest of your day, Miss Omallia." And don't breathe a word of what I am to anyone, he added mentally. Though she obviously didn't hear that part. To Dr. Garrison, he stated, "It is a pleasure to see you, doctor. Would you like to come in? Apparently I am entertaining more guests than usual today." There was a light note of almost playful sarcasm in his voice. And it was very true that he didn't often let anyone into his room during the day. Since he was usually resting. Or teaching a class. The only reasons why he left his room during the day usually were to teach a class or hold office hours in a classroom to help any students who cared enough to seek it from him. He might bring someone back to his room for a chat at night, but certainly not during the day. |

Beautiful Mistake

![]() Leena swam up and around the bottom of the lake, scaring fish and other creatures that lived under the water. It felt so good to have flippers instead of feet again. After awhile she surfaced, taking a deep breath of air that filled her large seal lungs. She smiled, or as best as seal could smile and swam to the edge of the lake again, planning on going back to the school. It had been a long enough swim and she knew the lake would always be here if she needed it. She scampered up onto the shore and reluctantly changed back into her human form. Leena stood up and slowly began to peel the sealskin off her body. But as she turned to get the wet skin off her back, she saw Kael sitting peacefully on a rock. Leena froze; she was covered by only her sealskin, and just barely. And now he would see her and know what she really was. This was not good, this was so far from good that is broke stuff. Try as she might, she couldn't hold it in, she screamed. Screamed in embarrassment of being found naked in the woods. Screamed with fear of what he might do now that he knew her secret. Screamed because she was a girl and something had just gone wrong. Screamed for a million reasons. Then, as quick as she could she pulled her seal skin back up around her body and morphed back into a seal. She dove into the water to hide, poking her head up slightly in the reeds nearby. |

((Gonna wait just a bit before doing Zack again...)) Kael He noticed it as soon as it surfaced: a seal. Eyes wide with surprise, Kael watched as it swam to shore, his mind abuzz with questions. Why was there a seal here of all places? And where was Leena? He doubted she'd go far from where she left her clothes... was she climbing up to the top of the waterfall? No, that couldn't be it, it wouldn't take her that long. The waterfall wasn't that tall... Then the seal turned into Leena with her prized seal skin wrapped around her body. Kael opened his mouth and then she started to pull it off and his face turned red. He wondered if he should do something - turn around, say something. But any other possible thoughts were interrupted when Leena turned and saw him. Their eyes met in that brief instant and Kael saw intense fear, mixed with embarrassment flood her deep blue eyes. Then she screamed and covered herself up again, dove into the water, turning back into the animal he'd seen before, and hid. He didn't move just yet, just stared at the water. It took him a moment to pick her out from the reeds, but when he did, he stood up and swallowed loudly. Okay... this was a delicate situation. He knew that much... but what should he do? If he just left, she'd probably be scared he was going to tell people... and he knew she wanted this to be kept a secret. But then, if he stayed, he doubted she'd come out of the water. He scratched his scalp and glanced off to the side, his uncertainty clear on his face as he said, "So uh... Leena... you're a... shapeshifting seal thing?" He didn't know if there was already a word for that, but there wasn't much he could do about it. "Um... sorry about that. I didn't mean to stare like that... I mean, I could have guessed you weren't human, it's just kind of surprising to find out exactly what." He was rambling. Which was unusual for him. Usually he didn't say much at all, but now he was actually trying to say... something! Anything that could relieve this embarrassing situation... And it didn't help that his mind wandered back to what he'd seen of her bare body before she covered herself again. The blush on his face intensified and he stared at a nearby tree, muttering under his breath. Well now what...? |
