You have probably thought of this already but ask them if they would report a fellow muslim to the authorities if they knew he was involved in terrorism. |

Look into the most common arguments they have, such as "There is no compulsion in Islam" and prepare an argument beforehand. Explain abrogation, because many people have no idea what it is. Look around discussions on youtube and take note of the questions asked and the responses given. Personally, I would never attend a mosque for a debate as it would obviously be a muslim majority, and anything they don't like to hear they simply shout over the top of. You also run the risk of offending Islam which is quite easily done, and there's a very real risk that you wouldn't make it back out the door. I've had many "debates" with muslims, and the majority use the same old rhetoric. They always try to showcase the violent past of other religions, they always use peaceful verses from the Koran and they always avoid any questions they can't answer. The only way to be fully prepared is to speak arabic and have a complete knowledge of the Koran and the Hadiths. That's a pretty tall order, but every debate I've had with a muslim has proved one of two things: Either I know more than they do about their own religion, or they are deliberately lying in order to advance Islam, otherwise known as Taqiyya. Best of luck! |
