I dislike the Olympics but this is taking the piss. Just remind me, who is paying for this farce.

Olympic attachment to the French language
As President Rogge often stresses, the IOC is deeply attached to the defence of the French language, as it was created in French, by Pierre de Coubertin, the reviver of the Olympic Games, in an era (end of the 19th century) when French was the language of diplomacy. Since April 1915, the IOC headquarters have been in the French-speaking region of Switzerland. We should also recall that, in accordance with Rule 24 of the Olympic Charter, French is an official IOC language, alongside English, and is therefore of fundamental importance for the Olympic Games. Furthermore, if there is a discrepancy between a French text and an English one in the Olympic Charter, or any other IOC document, the French text prevails, in the absence of any written instruction to the contrary.

The radio news i heard said all medal ceremonies would be in French and the English version would follow, possibly after other languages.
In my view this is another putdown for the English, now on a global scale. Whatever the olympic rules state this has cost us billions to set up and its just PLAIN WRONG

How much you betting it will be a celebration of Britain's multiculturalism? Therefore being awful and boring.
Get a few Aston Martins, Jags and TVRs doing handbrake turns around the arena,
with Iron Maiden and AC/DC rocking the place, that would be an opening ceremony.

Why is it that a meaningless body of people in charge of `sports` can dictate to our country what language `our` Olympic games is commented on. And who the hell are they to dictate our flag will be fifth in order of importance, behind the EU flag and Greece. If this had been made clear before the `bid` to hold it here, I am sure the public would have been less sympathetic to the whole idea. This is probably a pay back for the `outing` of the Fifa scams in the world cup bid. This will be a really expensive egg smashed right into our collective foreheads for the whole world to see. Take our ball of them and tell em to clear off!

Pretty sure the Olympics is always first in French, then English then in the language of whatever country is hosting it
