Security has been stepped up around the Coronation Street set after Greater Manchester Police received information suggesting that the terrorist group Al Qaeda could target the 50th anniversary live show tonight.

It was reported in The Sun that police were “tipped off” that the group may target tonight’s show, which will be an hour long broadcast to celebrate the soap’s 50th birthday.

The paper reported that Greater Manchester Police were taking the intelligence seriously by sending in private security staff.

"This is a public, high-profile event," a spokesman said. "The risk is consistent with the UK terror threat, which is currently severe.”

They added: "Al-Qaeda are desperate to pull off a 'spectacular' in Britain. The police clearly are acting on fears that a strike on the Corrie studios is a very real possibility."

The Coronation Street cast and crew will reportedly be searched as they arrive at the studios, and scanners will be used as part of the heightened security measures, which will see extensive searches of the set and outlying buildings.

A source from the soap told The Sun: "It's a nightmare scenario. For Corrie bosses there is the possibility of this tragic episode turning into a real-life tragedy.”

"Everybody involved in the show - from cast to runners - will have to pass through a load of rigorous security checks. They'll be individually body-searched and will have to pass through airport-style metal detectors."

They continued: "The bosses have spent tens of thousands on security for the safety of everyone on the show.”

However the show bosses and stars have decided that the show must go on although the source revealed: “Everyone is on edge anyway because it's so rare to film Corrie live. This has only heightened the air of tension around Weatherfield."

I can understand the reason behind this thinking, it's watched by millions.

Well it's been said (mostly by me) that people will only realise there is any threat when it affects them personally. Perhaps this is the one . . .

It's about the one sort of attack that would finally wake the majority of the British people from their slumber regarding the Islamic menace.

I can understand the reason behind this thinking, it's watched by millions.

That's exactly why it would be a target for the jihadists.

The screwballs of jihad always try to out-do each other on the atrocity scale and if this serves to get international attention they've acheived their goal. Being a 'live' broadcast watched by millions would leave no opportunity for video evidence to be doctored but may offer encouragement to muzzie 'brothers & sisters' to do the same.

Of course, there's always the point that NOTHING is off limits to these cretins whether it be women & children, physical structures, the atmosphere/air we breathe, cyber space or the water we drink.

The only certainty is this: The more you ignore the threat of islam, the greater that threat will become.
