£1.2m Brierley Hill mosque in line for approval
Tuesday 7th December 2010, 9:00PM GMT.

A £1.2million mosque and community centre looks set to be built in Brierley Hill three years after a parking dispute forced leaders to withdraw plans.

Council officers have backed proposals to demolish Rizvia Mosque in Trinity Street and
construct a new contemporary two-storey building with a glass dome and minaret in its place.

Members of the Muslim Welfare Association originally submitted similar plans in 2007 but following a year of wrangling over the number of car parking spaces that would be allowed, they were withdrawn.

They have now been resubmitted an application for planning permission with the number of spots increased from seven to 26.

A report going before Dudley Council’s planning committee on December 13, when the final decision will be made, recommends approval of the scheme.

It says: “The proposed development is of an acceptable design, scale and layout, making appropriate provision for car parking and having a positive contribution on the existing appearance of this part of Brierley Hill.”

Rizvia Mosque secretary Mohammed Rashid welcomed the recommendation.

“It is great news for the local community as they have been waiting a long time for this new mosque.

“We had to withdrew the plans because of problems over parking but this has now been resolved.” Up to 150 people have been using the one-storey former scout hut in Trinity Street for daily worship since 1998, but plans for a new purpose-built mosque and community centre include just seven spots for cars.

The new building will be used as a Muslim community centre and will offer lessons for children.

The council has received one letter of objection to the development, which raised concerns that the development will exacerbate existing on-street parking problems along Trinity Street resulting from the use of the mosque.

The report says: “It is not envisaged that there would be any significant increase in numbers of users of the mosque, although the redevelopment of the site would provide sufficient space to allow for a future increase in the size of the congregation.”

If we dont go back to Dudley in the new year I will be shocked. I know plenty of locals that want us back there, regardless of this news. with this added on top I think we could easily pull numbers like Dudley 1

I noticed in an older article about this mosque, that another mosque is planned for in Lye High Street (older article below):

Plans for bigger mosque in Brierley Hill

Thursday 15th January 2009, 11:31AM GMT.

Another Black Country mosque could be demolished and rebuilt in a bid to accommodate the growing Muslim community.

The Rizvia Mosque, in Trinity Street, Brierley Hill, has submitted plans to Dudley Council to flatten its existing building and replace it with a new mosque and community centre.

Members originally submitted similar £1.2 million plans in 2007 but, following a year of wrangling over the number of car parking spaces, they were withdrawn.

The Express & Star reported that the long established Ghausia Mosque in Lye High Street had also submitted plans to demolish its existing building, to replace it with a more modern place of worship and a new community centre for the wider community.

The Ghausia redevelopment is expected to cost in the region of £1.5 million and will be funded by donations from worshippers and cash saved by the mosque.

Rizvia Mosque’s application has been submitted on behalf of the Muslim Welfare Association and includes plans to expand its site to accommodate more worshippers.

The Rizvia Mosque has 80 members who visit the site at various times to pray. The plans are expected before the council’s development and control committee during the coming months.

By the way, prayers will be FIVE TIMES a day at the new Rizvia Mosque at Brierley and it will also be a learning centre, so its going to be a busy mosque. The mosque, on two sides sits in very close proximity to peoples houses and back gardens. (I noted in one of the articles someone commented on a call to prayer, not sure if this is going to be the case) .....and during EID you can at least double the amount of people 300-500.

The Dudley Government document, with plans. I assume it is up-to-date as they updated the document on the 3rd Dec 2010. LINK

I couldn't help but notice that although they say there will be 150 attending, on the plans they have noted-up the plans for the Prayer Room as having 346 prayer mats!

Looking at google maps, there is a parking problem in the area already. Some people tend to park-up in the cul-de-sac which backs onto their houses/gardens and runs alongside the mosque land, but due to the new mosque build the council had concerns about parking and the applicant of the new mosque suggested the below. Sure that will go down with the residents, not.

Quote:

In order to overcome this concern the applicant originally proposed a resident parking scheme or similar to deter visitors from parking in the street.

Only one person put an objection in against this mosque!!!

Also, there is a meeting at the Council Offices on the 13th December 2010, on the agenda is the Mosque: Rizvia Mosque, 4 Trinity Street, Brierley Hill

I am not surprised at this figure fern.

We seem to have a total lethargy going on to the mundane tasks of letter writing or turning up at council meetings to protest. We do seem rather good at being 'indignant', and chewing the fat online.

Arrange a meet and greet, or any kind of 'piss up' and watch them show up, then a lower percentage turn out for demos. Get down to the unglamorous, sober, but possibly far more productive (on a local scale), and it seems that the vast majority just slip away.

I take it then, that the actual objection that the council received was penned by yourself, letting them know how you feel, and why it would be a bad idea to let this development go ahead ?

I know cutter, and they wonder why all this is happening! The blame I suppose just doesn't lay at the feet of them alone (muslims) and the councillors, but us, the people. Wouldn't want to interrupt their X Factor and Come Dancing!
One other thing I don't understand, is how the council are saying that there won't be any change in the usuage of the new mosque - same old crap they spew out. They know full well the usuage will change with this mosque, it is large compared to what it is replacing.

It has 3 classrooms - so surely this is not just a mosque or a community centre, but a teaching facility.

They will also be using some sort of audible equipment:

quote from main document (linked in previous post) :

Quote:

Electrical sound amplification equipment (including speakers) shall be operated only
within the building to communicate with people inside it. Such equipment shall not
be audible at the boundary of the site. As understood from the planning submission
report, there shall be no ‘calling to prayer’ from the proposed buildings;

Quote:

18. As the proposed development is not intended to significantly increase the numbers of people using the mosque, the use of the building should not lead to any greater
impacts on existing residential amenity at nearby properties
. A suitable condition can
be imposed to ensure that no amplified equipment is used to ‘call to prayer’, in
accordance with Policy EP7 of the UDP which requires that development which may
generate noise should include measures to minimise noise emissions.

Crazy...the councillors are either downright dumb or deliberately pulling the wool over the eyes of the residents.

Also, noticeable is this glass dome - I wonder if there is another reason for it. Maybe a new new trend. I suppose they will be having astronomy 'sight the moon' events there too (Tooting had one recently lol), as many of the muslims these days appear to be quarrelling over exactly what date Eid actually begins - wheres dat moon? so when they all set off for the big Hajj they could be going on the wrong day FROFLMAO!
