Any ideas?; EDL banned from pub in Chatham

Sorry if this has been posted before.

I'm just back from Devon and came across this about the EDL being turned away from a pub in Chatham.

Quote:

A pub landlord has shut the door on the English Defence League after they hired out a function room under a different name.

The Kent branch of the EDL – a far-right group set up last year to oppose the spread of Islamic extremism across the country - had made plans to hold a meeting at O'Connells, Chatham, at 8pm tonight.

Labour councillor Vince Maple, who actively campaigns for the Love Music Hate Racism campaign, said the pub had now cancelled the booking.

"I have spoken to pub and police and they confirmed, unsurprisingly, that the room was booked in a different name and the pub had no idea the EDL were planning to use their venue.

"They have now confirmed there will be no meeting of any description tomorrow."

Chief Inspector Peter de Lozey added: "Kent police in Medway have been made aware that there is information circulating that the English Defence League plan to hold a meeting tonight at a public house in Medway.

"We have spoken with the licensee of the pub in question and have been advised that the meeting will not be going ahead."

Note the headline, the style of the piece, and the local Labour councillor involved in seemingly persuading the pub' to cancel their booking.

So, why use a different name for booking a room? Was it just to prevent a turn up from the likes of the UAF?

Don't drink there. If they don't want EDL business then fcuk em!

Best to be upfront with them and find a sympathetic landlord and ensure that on the night people behave themselves.

Plenty of pubs struggling who wouldn't dare turn away trade. ;)

No suprise there, have been booted out of a few pubs for being EDL, best thing to do is go in and keep a low profile with no colours unless the landlord is expecting you then you can wear whatever you like.

It's the pub's loss, it's a shame that some people don't have the balls to say that as long as no one is doing anything illegal they can hire the room. I mean Jesus Christ what happened to democracy?
Put this stupid bints name on the list, her time will come, when a new patriotic political party rises in the u.k, then we can send the troglodyte a framed newspaper article whilst she's getting evicted from her home for non payment of mortgage after her short lived career in politics.

Was speaking with one of the fb group last night ref this its a bad move to not inform any landlord of a pub what group you are we held a meeting when kent was one division in a pub in chatham and was up front with the landlord who by the way is mixed race and there was no problem you need to be honest and not ashamed the next meet and greet that is being held in dover has the full consent of the landlord so there wont be no dramas just be honest is the best way N.S
Next meet and greet is a East Kent division meet but anyone welcome

I am a biker, bin so for 25 years. We used to put on loads of rallies for charity, where we hired out country pubs, (with camping for 3 days). Them landlords used to come up our local and ask us back time after time, the money they made that weekend was a few months normal trade.
MICKYBOY has hit the nail on the head with his post. They need to know who you are, and what you are like.

We used to take 20 to 30 club members with tents and pick the pub, check it out, While talking to the landlord, we would ask if any local farmers drank in there so to ask for a field to camp in for the night. Very often the landlord would get on the fone and sort it. Then we would line his pockets whilst we got pissed up. No trouble just lads n lasses having good times. I can honestly say we were never turned away doing it like that.
On the sunday dinnertime before heading home we would go for a final drink, by then the landlord had counted his nights takings and was smiling. Then we would tell him who we were and what we were about, asking him to consider hosting a rally of 300 + bikers. Leave him a contact number and race home to catch the fone ringing.
There are those who sit and await their fate,
others stand against this hate,
NO SURRENDER we all shout,
lets get this bloody ISLAM out.

The sad fact is that after the pub closes it will no doubt be turned into a mosque. Another nail in the coffin of the British way of life.
