http://www.camdennewjournal.com/letters/2010/nov/council%E2%80%99s-correctness-control Council’s correctness control Published: 18 November, 2010 • CAMDEN Council has an overseeing position of many organisations and is currently involved in structuring a new mental health service-user group Camden Mental Health User Involvement Service. I have often heard from many users that the organisation is being shaped by the council to act as it sees fit. I didn’t take any notice, but I have now changed my mind. We were to have a small Christmas party. I’ve now been told that the council has decreed that it will now be called Festive Event, and the wording “Christmas party” excluded. We should celebrate all festive events when they are due, and whatever religion, and refer to them in using the name they are properly given – that is Christmas, Easter, Diwali, Eid and so on. This decision by the council insults my religious beliefs, but that obviously doesn’t matter. Camden’s decree proves that comments of service-users were correct. TONY FISHER, St Pancras Way, NW1 |

I'm sure that the PCamden council will say it's about "diversity" but really it's about apeasing the special ones. |

I'll try to find out who is responsible for this nonsense - it's not the Mayor of Camden, Jonathan Simpson, he has a Christmas Appeal: "Christmas is a time for celebration but there are some children who may not receive a single present without our help. When you’re doing your Christmas shopping, spare a thought for those children and buy an extra gift to help make this Noel a little bit jollier.” There's Christmas Lights and a Christmas Fair, etc. Someone needs to be "put in their place" ... telling people with Mental Health Problems that they can't advertise their "Christmas Party" makes one wonder who the "nutters" are. |

Totally ridiculous. The ironic thing is that none of the Sikhs, Hindus, Muslims etc that I have worked with have ever complained about Christmas. I wonder if Camden council will also ban mention of EID and Ramadan? |

I just phoned them to make a complaint, they said there is no-one there on a saturday and i was to call back monday, apparently it has been done by the leisure department. I urge everyone to phone on monday and complain on the grounds of religious, British, nationalistic, heritage, racial, personal or any other discrimination you see fit. Can we ban the term ramadan and call it a festive event? |
