I saw Treasa May ? on tv wittering on about new laws which will give police powers to expel a violent husband from a house for a 48 hour cooling off period. A good idea i thought until it dawned on me that under sharia laws, muslim offenders will no doubt be off the radar and not subject to this ruling. I can only assume the conservatives want muslim women to suffer |

Yeah great idea, he can come back in two days and beat her twice as hard cos she got him kicked out! Teresa May couldn't find her arse from her elbow the incompetent slug. |
| THEY JOINED FOR MANY REASONS, TO MARCH, TO SAIL, TO FLY. THEY WENT WHERE THEY WERE POSTED, BUT NOBODY JOINS TO DIE. THEIR LEADERS TALK ON TV, WHAT ELSE COULD WE HAVE DONE? BUT THOSE LEADERS LOST NO DAUGHTERS, AND NONE HAS LOST A SON. SO HERE'S TO ALL OUR SOLDIERS WHEREVER THEY MAY BE...AND HERES TO ALL THEIR FAMILIES, I RAISE A GLASS TO THEE...WEAR YOUR POPPY WITH PRIDE. | |

Oldboyblue... I think you're spot on. I can't honestly see a muslim woman reporting her husband for abuse. The whole community would turn on her. She would probably end up dead. I can speak from experience, I was battered beyond belief by my then husband. I usually kept quiet, I'd fell over, or banged my face on the cupboard door was my answer when asked. For sure, if he had been forced to move out of the home for 48 hours, I would be terrified of him coming back!! My friends intervened when he almost killed me, he ended up in nick. .. couldn't have happened to a nicer person. Theresa May don't have a clue. |

They don't need a new law, they do this already. Someone I know was splitting up with his partner and she was moving out at the end of the month. She took exception to him cancelling her car insurance that he pays for and also cancelling her mobile phone bill that he also paid for. She had a screaming tantrum and called the police to tell them all about it. The OB came round to his house and asked her if he had hit her, she said he hadn't but the OB told him to leave the house there and then, it was 2 am! He told them he had nowhere to go and he had a 12 year old daughter in the house. The OB said they didn't care, he had to get out till the morning. So him and his daughter went and sat in the car all night. |

although this law sounds like a good idea at first, there is plenty of scope for abuse. |

You notice of course that the perpetrators of this crime are without doubt always males. DV is a 2 way street where a woman can be just as violent as a man. The big difference here is that a bloke has no place to go to offer him a refuge from a violent partner, but the women have their counsellors, support, hostels and refuges. If a women smacks a guy in the face, it's treated as somehow funny. If a guy smacks a women in the face then he is vilified. This equality only works one way and the sooner this issue is sorted out, the better it will be. I turned up at 2.00 am in the morning at my local Police Station nearly 30 years ago, after having a bottle over the head by my violent partner. The police appeared to smirk and said "Well, what would you like us to do then?" That was it end of story, no paperwork raised, no enquiry, nothing, and I ended up with 32 stitches in my head, and having to sleep in my garage. Sorry if I have offended anyone, but this for me was, and still remains a very hot issue for me. The physical scars heal, but the psychological scars remain. Edited by Aden30, Nov 26 2010, 09:21 PM.

Well said, I know someone who had a violent partner, she punched and kicked him whilst he was holding their baby in his arms, it was her favourite trick. She didn't care if she hit the baby as well as him. If he got the police involved she played the victim and the police ignored his bloodied injuries and were on her side every time. Only once did one PC take him to one side and say, "get away from her son, she's no good." I can well understand how you must feel, Aden. |
