The mayor of a French village invaded by migrants has called on Britain to halt handouts to deter them from crossing the Channel. His comments came after makeshift tents appeared in the Dunkirk suburb of Teteghem, which is less than five miles from the main port.

Fears are growing there that it could become the site of a new ‘Jungle’ – the infamous ghetto in nearby Calais which was torn down last year. Franck Dhersin, a former MP and adviser to President Nicolas Sarkozy, says his village cannot cope, and pointed the finger at Britain’s benefits system.

Bound for the Channel: Migrants at the camp at Tetenghem, near Dunkirk

He told the Daily Mail: ‘The reason the migrants keep coming to France and slipping over the Channel is because the UK is too generous with them. Stop giving them money and a place to live and they will soon go somewhere else. End of problem.’ He revealed that his village was currently home to 200 Afghans, Iraqis, Kurds, Sudanese, Vietnamese, Eritreans and Palestinians.

‘For the past four weeks, numbers of migrants camping out have been increasing by 50 per week. At this rate within a month we will have another Calais Jungle on our doorsteps,’ he said. ‘I regularly visit the migrants and they all tell me they want to go to England. ‘Why? The reason is simple. They have money and a place to stay as soon as they arrive.

‘England has done a lot to help the situation by setting up police and Customs over here, but the problem still remains. ‘Since they razed the Calais Jungle last year the situation has changed,’ added Mr Dhersin. Members of the humanitarian association Salem distribute meals to Afghan, Kurd, Iranian, Erythrean and Vietnamese refugees in Tetenghem today ‘Now, instead of choosing Calais, the migrants are trying Dunkirk and the Belgian ports of Zeebrugge and Ostend.’ He said that Teteghem was an ideal squat location for migrants because it is next to the motorway linking France to Belgium and very close to the port of Dunkirk.

‘The reason they are here is because the people-smugglers have charged them money to camp here. The smugglers are dangerous and very violent. Last week a Vietnamese man stabbed another man and the week before that there was a shooting.’

Already migrants have been knocking on doors asking for water and power to charge their mobile phones, said the mayor. ‘We are a small village with a population of 7,500. The migrants are hardened people. They have travelled thousands of miles to get here. ‘They have nothing to lose and will stop at nothing to get what they need’, he added.

'Something has got to be done, but in the long term the problem must be solved in Britain. We are just victims of a British problem here.’ Francoise Lavoisier, of the Salam migrant charity, said: ‘Lots of the migrants used to live in the Jungle. They are trying to go to Britain because they think it’s an Eldorado.’

Only a handful of these are non-muslims then, from Vietnam? Not the first time the French have warned us.Problem is,once they land, with no documents-the usual trick, our legal system can't throw them out easily and there's so many idiotic people that speak up on their behalf...we really have become a joke of a nation concerning this farce...

Madness! What is it going to take for our Government to adhere to warnings. France knows only too well what happens when Islamic enclaves get out of control.

Look to Russia at the moment:

18 November 2010 Last updated at 21:25

A senior Russian official has told the BBC that Islamic terrorists with links to Al Qaeda are trying to "tear the whole of the North Caucasus away from Russia".

The President of Dagestan, Russia's most restless republic, said that insurgents wanted to turn the whole region into an Islamic state.

In recent months Dagestan - which neighbours Chechnya - has become the epicentre of violence in the Caucasus with almost daily shootings, bombings and kidnapping.

[snip]

"The aim of the extremists is to tear the Caucasus away from Russia," Dagestan's President, Magomedsalam Magomedov, tells me.

They want to turn the whole region into an Islamic state based on sharia [Islamic] law but we will defeat them”

President of Dagestan

"Many of them are mercenaries who've undergone instruction in Taliban training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

"They have links to al-Qaeda and to other terrorist groups across the Caucasus which share the same goal.

"They want to turn the whole region into an Islamic state based on sharia [Islamic] law but we will defeat them."

Moscow sees this is as a battle it cannot afford to lose - not only if it is to retain control of the North Caucasus, but also provide security for the whole country.

In recent years, different parts of Russia have suffered acts of terror carried out by extremists from the Caucasus. Police say it was female suicide bombers from Dagestan who attacked the Moscow Metro earlier this year killing 40 people.

[snip]

Followers of Salafi Islam, the kind of strict Islam promoted by Saudi Arabia, regularly complain of police harassment and persecution. The authorities concede that force alone will not secure peace.

The chronic economic and social problems of the region - high unemployment and rampant corruption - feed extremism. Radical ideas thrive in such a soil.

[snip]

"Dagestan is such a multi-ethnic republic. When it all explodes here, you won't be able to restore peace between all the different peoples of Dagestan. Nobody will know who's fighting who. Not here. It will be a nightmare."

I have no sympathy for the French at all. Remember when they built that holding place for asylum seekers waiting to be deported, right next the border so they come across to the UK easier?

I have no sympathy for you at all.
They’re sailing for England
Oh! What a shame!
Someone is after our island again
We’ll let them have it…
Oh, yes we will!
But maybe they won’t want it when they get the bill!

But, who’s sticking in here? Who will defend
every inch of England no matter what they send?
Who’s standing firm in our own front yard?
The soldiers of the old home guard

Yes Britain should close the door and stop all none essentual imagrants entering our country. to gain entry all aplications must be made at the British embassy in their home country, if successful they will be given a time, date and place, to arrive in this country, they will not be entitled to any benefits until they have contributed continuously for 5 years and have learnt to speak and write our language and intergrated with the English population, any offenders under English law will be deported and bannished.
Having made the existance of these camps in France pointless it is then up to the French to use the army to clear them.

If as is plainly going to happen our authorities ignore this call I can see the French turning a blind eye to exactly where these freeloaders go as long as it gets them out of their hair so they wll arrive here one way or another.

The EU controls our borders and dictate who we can and cannot allows across them not our country any more. The so called human rights act makes it impossible to get rid of them and if threatened with deportation which is higly unlikely they simply disappear. No wonder the French and all the countries they flock from are laughing at us as they dont want these people and are glad to see the back of them plus the rest of Europe merely pays lip service to looking after them and it speaks volumes that they dont want to live there anyway as the pots of gold they expect to be lavished on them are only to be had on our shores.

Our housing schools hospitals not to mention water supplies are all under threat from this madness of totally uncontrolled immigration but there seems to be nothing our ruling elite will or want to do to stop it

there shouldn't be getting in to the uk anyway, the description of an asylum seekers is to take refuge in the closest country.
this just f-ing shows that this country hands out everything to every one, lads we might as well walk down to dover ect stand ther with our wallets and say come every one take what you want its gonna happen sooner of later.

I i was in charge id block all immigrants coming in, id ship-um all back in boats worse than the ones they transported slaves in, wouldn't wanna take the risk then.

we spend more housing and feeding these fcuk than we do on border control
"This is a sad day for all of us, and to none is it sadder than to me. Everything that I have worked for, everything that I have believed in during my public life, has crashed into ruins. There is only one thing left for me to do: That is, to devote what strength and powers I have to forwarding the victory of the cause for which we have to sacrifice so much"
