Quite simply I would love to see us out of the EU completely, and return to our fully soverign commonwealth. I wouldnt want to see the country lose the royal family, it holds to much history. But maybe we could lower their pocket money... ;-) |

Sorry if this is a daft question but I'm a young un. What does the Royal family actually do? Personally I think every human should have equal rights and agree with Lionsingh that the monarchy should end. I don't think anybody should be regarded higher than others purely because of their ancestry. On the other hand though, it is Englands most famous tradition... |

My thoughts exactly. To be in the same category as Ian Huntley, Fred West, Choudry, that is more than insulting, its sickening. So no, it is impossible for everybody to be treated equally. I think its fair for people to be treated in a certain way due to their own merit. |

Pretty much that, with a couple of provisos. I think we should fully fund the serving monarch and cover the security costs for her/his immediate family. Other than that they should support themselves, IMHO. William should be the next king, for me. |

...at 62p per year each the cost of keeping them is minimum and I think excellent value for figureheads and tradition and the revenue it brings to the Country. Surely there must be at least a 10,000s of other needless expenses we need to get rid of before we even start to consider aboloshing the Monarchy. eu foreign aid to countries with space programs/nuclear weapons translators benefits info printed in dozens of languages ...the list goes on and on...... |

The cost of the monarchy is peanuts when you see all the other loony items on the governments spending must do lists. £700,000 spent to pacify dissident republican prisoners in maghaberry prison because they pissed and shat all over their cells landings and turned the place into a sewer Just the INCREASE in the foreign aid budget when all UK spending is pared to the bone, is also costing every man woman and child a further £380 each £15 billion on the Irish to bail out the fact that a lot of wideboy bankers and builders ripped off the banks to create over 3000 new housing estates they knew there were not enough people either to purchase let alone afford them. Thats costing us more than the entire amount saved by the current wave of coalitions savage spending cuts. It amounts to approx a further £400 per man woman and child in this country in our handout to a grubby bunch of Irish rogues. Now they admit that next up for bail outs will be Portugal then Spain then Italy and also it emerges France will also need our financial help too. THE EURO IS KAPUT SO WHY SHOVEL OUR TAXES INTO THE BONFIRE And the 2billion fine they are taking off the bankers is one tenth of the amount of our cash these thieves lavished on themselves in bonuses last year alone JUST DOING THEIR JOBS if you could call losing billions doing a job but its never these sacred cow bankers who suffer for their actions as the bonuses keep right on as before ================== Finally the upcoming wedding of William and Catherine will it is estimated generate a profit for the country of a billion dollars US so God Save the Queen & No Surrender! Totally agree, The royal family have become nothing more than good will ambassadors, and the reigning monarch simply rubber stamps our corrupt governments policies. Re-empower them to use their common sense and over rule the endless "political correctness" we are forced to live by. Maybe we could start by invading France again - always good for morale God save the Queen |

There is absolutely ZERO chance of Charles receiving my allegiance IN ANY WAY WHATSOEVER. He's a fkn dhimmi, and has obviously lost touch with reality. If he were to be enthroned, it would spell disaster for this Nation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfXFYD6kJgk I agree with Lionsingh about the monarchy in general, but I don't see our fellow Brits giving them up anytime in the near future, barring some cataclysm..:/ |

The Queen is carrying out her job impeccably, and to the letter, it is the government who decide what she will/won't rubber stamp. thats not the monarchs fault, they only do what they are told to. If power was to be given back to the monarchy, it would require a change in the constitution, and this could only come about through an enactment through parliament. You see the problem, its government, not the monarchy. |

At the moment, the Queen's main duties are ceremonial and as an ambassador for the country. If you like, she's a figurehead for the country, with NO power to make any policy, this is because Edward VIII (abdicated to marry Wallis Simpson) was seen as a Nazi sympathizer, and after his abdication, parliament enacted the scrapping of all of the monarchs powers. |

Actually at this point in History I think it doesn't matter what you really thik about the current monarchs. If you do not support the traditions and customs of the land you are handing victory to the enemy. And, when you come to thi nk about it, that has ALWAYS been the point of having a monarch! Ohtehrwise why bother? We could all just be a republic. Like the Congo. Or Uganda. Or Indonesia. Or something. |
