Anti-terror police arrested a man from Wolverhampton today on suspicion of encouraging attacks on MPs who voted for the Iraq war.

The 23-year-old man, from the Dunstall area of the city, was held on suspicion of encouraging an act of terrorism in connection with a website blog listing politicians who backed the controversial 2003 invasion.

Detectives seized computer and other electronic equipment from the man’s home address.

This afternoon West Midlands Police refused to confirm where exactly the man had been arrested, but said they were taking the “implications” of the blog very seriously.

The arrest was in connection with a website called RevolutionMuslim.com which had been taken down this afternoon.

Det Chf Insp John Denley, from the force’s counter-terrorist unit, said this afternoon: “This is in connection with a website blog, which featured a list of British MPs it claimed had voted for the Iraq war.

“The man was arrested this morning at approximately 9.30am and a search has been conducted at his home address.

“Computer and electronic equipment was seized for examination.

“We are treating the contents and implications of this blog very seriously, and have taken action this morning to progress our investigation.”

Earlier this week a radicalised muslim was jailed for life for the attempted murder of MP Stephen Timms.

Student Roshonara Choudhry was jailed for life for attempting to murder Mr Timms over his support for the Iraq war.

The 21-year-old was told she would serve at least 15 years after she stabbed the former government minister at his advice surgery in his East Ham constituency.

Choudhry was convicted on three charges – one of attempted murder and two of possessing an offensive weapon – after a brief trial having ordered her defence team not to challenge the evidence because she did not recognise the jurisdiction of the British court.
