Some people might question the use of St. George's Cross on the EDL's websites, etc. However if one spends just a little time investigating the story of Saint George, it quickly becomes clear that this saint is revered throughout the world. One finds images of St. George in the most unlikely and unexpected of places. It may be worth doing a little research on this saint, so that any questions about the EDL using the cross of this particular saint can be answered satisfactorily.

We have many threads on Saint George. :)

Did you know that he wasn't a Turk? It's surprising how many people think he was.

Apparition of Saint George on the Mount of Olives

“One day, millions of men will leave the Southern Hemisphere to go to the Northern Hemisphere. And they will not go there as friends. Because they will go there to conquer it. And they will conquer it with their sons. The wombs of our women will give us victory.”

– Houari (Mohamed) Boumedienne, President of Algeria, 1965 – 1978, in a 1974 speech at the UN

Thanks for the link to the other thread. I first came across St. George in a context outwith the English one we're all so familiar with when I visited Malta. There's a church in Gozo which is dedicated to St. George. I think I'm right in saying St. George was supposed to have been seen during one of the many battles with the Moors, helping to defend the islands from the forces of Islam. St. George is, I believe, the patron of Victoria, and the protector of Gozo.

Can anyone tell me if St. George's Bay in Malta is named after the same St. George? It seems quite possible, but I'd like to know for sure.
