In the six cases of domestic violence, Siddiqi said the judges ordered the husbands to take anger management classes and mentoring from community elders. There was no further punishment. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/faith/article4749183.ece I cannot believe that this is being allowed !!! There will be more cases coming up...this cant last long. |

Further links THIS IS NOT A CHARITY !!! The Islamic Sharia Council is listed as a charity but people seeking a divorce, or talaq, must fill in a form and pay a fee. For a man it is £100; for women, it is £250 because the imams say it takes more work to process a woman's application as her word has to be corroborated. Thats from 2008... It has got allot worse now. So much so that the decisions made in the Shira courts are being upheld by English law. |

I would have thought that domestic violence was a matter for criminal courts ? As usual, the double standard allows the special community to just walk away. They will just keep pushing this to the point where muslims can only be tried in a muslim court, and then it'll be even more difficult to stop the violence etc etc. |

Cutter, you are correct. Domestic violence laws were changed a few years ago. They no longer need the victim to press charged as the state can. So, in theory every domestic violence case they judge is a criminal case. |
