Last night, Mr Baker – who is responsible for the licensing of private hire vehicles – said the episode had prompted him to mount an investigation into the licensing of foreign drivers. ‘It became obvious that the driver had a limited grasp of English when I said the tower was 34 storeys high, only to be taken to a two-storey building,’ he said. Some local people claim that foreigners applying to become cab drivers are being helped by official interpreters during the test of their navigation skills. Unite, the union which represents cab drivers, has lodged a complaint with councillors about the skills of foreign drivers. A Liverpool City Council spokesman: ‘All applicants for a taxi licence have to take a written street knowledge test in English as well as an oral English language test. ‘No interpreters are allowed to be present at these tests Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1315298/Minister-probes-foreign-cabbies-licence-lost-taken-ride.html#ixzz10ez4aUog |

There are loads of illegal immigrant taxi drivers at Heathrow. I think all taxi drivers should pass the advanced drivers test too. |

I initially thought that this was going to be an ooo-errr missus sort of story, I mean there must of been plenty of ministers that fancied probing cabbies. ![]() Back in the real world though, I wonder if he actually checked the drivers licence and identification, he may of been absolutely uninsured. Probably one of the owners relatives just doing a shift for cash. If he thinks it's bad with black cabs, he should absolutely avoid looking into the murky cash in hand, car should be in the scrappers world of private hire. Now they really should be investigated for all sorts of frauds and deviants. |

Hard to believe (but, who am I to judge?) that there's been a vast amount of complaints over dodgy taxi drivers for years so there's no way I'll ever believe MP' have had such a sheltered life they've never heard whinge or whisper of it! No way! BUT, if it heppens to THEM? "Enquiry"! What about us peasants, huh? Don't you care your voters have to deal with all sorts of scams every day of their Lives? Yours sincerely, Disgruntled. |
