Just a word up about halal.

Halal, means allowed, as opposed to not allowed (haram). We mainly focus on halal meat because of the slaughter method. But for non meat products, it doesn't mean the same.

Halal sweets etc. purely mean that they contain no alcohol or gelatine (from pigs). So, when not talking about meat, halal is pretty much the same as vegetarian with no alcohol.

That said, if it is labelled halal, then there is still halal tax paid to the local mosque/halal licensing authority.
