Was walking past Newcastle monument today at 6.30 pm and there was a very small group having a vigil with candles for the Iranians who are being imprisoned and killed for protest against the Iranian government. There were pictures of Sohrab Aarab http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sohrab_Aarab and Neda Agha-Soltan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Neda_Agha-Soltan amonst others and i thought i go over and chat with some off them and had a good chat with a few who you might look like ex student lefties but found out some were from i think from the Newcastle branch Amnesty International yet they seem to agree in a positive way against Islamic religious nutter's like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

One thing iam pissed off about this peaceful vigil protest is that there was about 10 of them including me and no fcuking students,Unite,Unison etc and a lot of middle eastern women in head scarves walked past and looked and then put there heads down and walked off.So it's ok for a load of white student wankers and Antifa's to protest in numbers for Palestine but not for young Iranians who want democracy.

Fantastic you stopped and joined them and had a chat. Yes, the absence of the left at such events VERY noticable.
When I went to a local protest against the poor woman who was condemned to stoning, there were only a few people there. Mostly ex-Iranians, some of them commies, but we all had a good chat and it was a successful demo. There were none of the traditional left, nor feminists there.

The left only seem to protest against what is trendy to be against, not against things that they've thought about and decide to stand against.

So fcuking true, mind you i didn't mention EDL as they looked at me at first and thought i was looking for trouble and when i started to talk to them it was a different matter and just thought i not mention EDL tonight as i think they might agree with a lot of things it's still taboo with most people.

I think there is a talk about human rights in Iran and Burma next week and iam going to check it out.
But as i said where are all those white middle class wankers who are out in big numbers for the UAF.
We are dealing with elitist 2 faced bullys.

This is the type of engagement that is needed, support for the opporessed in far away Islamic countries. Even if we didn't wear EDL colours but after the event sent out a press release of our attendance soon people would realise we are not a group of racist thugs.
They don't like it up 'em.
Don't tell them your name Pike.

Good topic @rudeboy and very good observations by @rudeboy & @Knuckles, especially re 'what is trendy'. I'm really surprised there weren't more people at the vigil with a more direct link, connectin or interest then yourself, @rudeboy. You, as a stranger passing by, took the time out and yet, as @Knuckles said, where were all who'd usualyy be found bumping their gums about civil right, injustice and freedoms? A lot more can be read & understood from your article than you actually say. Be proud.

Big thank you.
I did it before when all these white student were celebrating Cuba and Castro so i went over and i asked them what they thought about Castro's censorship of Cuban music to the outside world in the 1960's/70's and 80's alongside what do they think about Cuban Baseball players and Boxers having to jump on rafts to hit Miami so they could try and make a living, and the pricks didn't have a a fcuking answer or what i was talking about and i bet these pricks have top jobs in industry and even government and thats my bet why England as well as other European countries are fcuked.
Champagne socialism just as bad as the imams.

Spot on mate. I bet most people who wear Che Guevara t-shirts know fcuk all about the guy. It's just some trendy icon to be seen with. I hate trends and those who follow them - it reeks of insincerity.

Meeting up groups like Rudy met on an individual basis is a great way of making links. Some of these groups are possibly sh1t scared of us as a group (mainly due to the media) but when they meet and talk one on one, they'll find out what we're really like. The Egyptian Copts I supported the other week were totally weary of me when I showed up, but when I took the lead handing out leaflets and packing their stuff up, they opened up and even got me interviewed on their radio station.

It's all about gaining trust and we're swimming against the tide right now due to the media, but individual meetings like Rudy's (and I'm sure plenty of unnamed others) go a very long way.

I met some lovely Iranians in a town near me who were protesting about the situation for women under the theocratic dictatorship of the Ayatollahs.

Again, no Liberal/Leftist groups were there to support them.

They had never heard of the EDL so never had a chance to be scared of me!

It more be great to get more dialogue with these groups. It certainly would be to everybody's benefit.

Thanks and it totally got no support from the white classes student types as well as the ANTIF's and Anarchist types, and with one of the pictures of a murdered woman wearing a head scarves and it got a lot of women in head scarves looking at it and then walking off,so i presume they are as brain washed as there forcing husbands.
