This is the one that takes it straight to them. This is what we're standing against.

I wonder if the UAF will be there to oppose us on this one.

So.............who's going?

I've already been told the anarchists are going to support islamo-fascism.

It's truly orwellian. The people who believe in freeing the workers from authoritarian control, are going to demonstrate in support of the religious fanatics would would kill gay people, institute discriminatory laws against women, and ban anarchism.

Rather you than me, from the Tower Hamlets on government website.

Population Projections
"Demographic change has a major impact on future demand in the wider housing market, the need for
affordable housing and the requirements for future stock by type and size within all areas in the
Borough.
An important feature in measuring future housing requirements is to forecast what is likely to happen
over the next decade or so in order that provision for new housing can be planned. The general
demographic forecasts used in this SHMA are the 2008 Greater London Authorities (GLA) Round
Population Projections.
Overall, the population in Tower Hamlets is projected to increase by 91,632 people between 2006
and 2026, an increase of 41.4% over the forecast period
. The largest increase is predicted to be
seen in the 45 - 64 age group (109.7%), a rise of 34,762 people and in the 30-44 age group which is
forecast to see a rise of 29,146 people (44.6%)."

I wonder where that population increase is going to come from?

"The Borough has a high ethnic minority community (43.8%). Bangladeshi households are the
largest BME community in the Borough at 20.0%"

Quotes are from pages 4 & 7.

Sorry mate, I didn't mean I wouldn't go (or I wouldn't advise going) because there's a high Muslim population, it's just not a place I'd want to visit (other than to protest) because it is so depressing and it is only going to get worse.

I've got friends in Tower Hamlets, and I visit them regularly. The ethnic breakdown of the area is hard to analyse, and the census data (which the council's figures will be based on) are woefully out of date.

It certainly does seem that white people are a minority in the borough. If one observes the schools, it does seem that there are literally no white kids in them. And when one sees white adults under the age of 50, there's a good chance they are eastern european. It's rare to walk around that area for more than a minute or two without seeing someone in a niqab.

There is some variation over the borough, as shown by the constituency Jim Fitzpatrick was in. They had mostly (or all) white candidates in the election, whereas the Bethnal Green & Bow constituency had almost no white candidates.

The interesting thing is to look at the diversity of the councillors. About 2/3 are muslims. I think that (combined with the minority of white kids in schools) tells one that muslims are probably a majority in Tower Hamlets now, and possibly as much as 2/3 of the borough. There's still a sizable minority of white people - but it's undoubtedly true that "white flight" has been going on since the 1970s, and is still going on.

My friends report that it feels like a relatively safe place to live. They don't report the same kinds of "racial" tensions that one hears from people in Bradford. I believe that this comes down to the difference in the kinds of muslims (Pakistani vs. Bangladeshi), or that it is in the nature of London and the general perception/acceptance of diversity (on both the side of the muslims and the non-muslims) that leads to less tension. That's not to say there's no tensions in Tower Hamlets - most of the gay bars in east London have closed down, and there are definitely homophobic attacks on gay men by muslims in the area.

Having said all that, I don't think that the 20th June demo will be like the Harrow demo. I think the muslims in Harrow saw the demos there as a direct attack on their mosque - the UAF were criminally irresponsible in their calls of "the Nazis are coming - protect the mosque". The UAF were only interested in a riot - I heard them say precisely that. The police in Harrow heard them saying that, and should have arrested them.

I've no idea of where the 20th June demo will be in Tower Hamlets. But I hope the muslims there will see our object is to target militant islam.

Mind you, I live in hope of more muslims joining EDL and supporting us. The fact there were muslims on buses going past the demo in support of Israel and giving the jews the thumbs up, gives me hope that we can get more muslims to take a stand with us. Although I don't expect to see that happen in Tower Hamlets and on this particular demo!

let`s be realistic here, i can`t see the local muslims or ethnic minorities in tower hamlets , joining the edl, i think we are in for a rough ride that is why we need to start advertising this demo more, so we can get our numbers up

My veiw is I expect the demo to be a peacefull one. I do believe it will have a very heavy police presence and I have so far only experienced possitive and good policing at our London demos, so I have no reason to expect this to be any different.
The most important thing I can see is that we reamain peacefull, respectfull to those that live there and trouble free.
Nothing will get our message across, prove to others and grow our support better than this. It has the potential to seriously boost numbers from other comunities and send a powerful message to the country and our goverment!
I pray that is the way that it goes.
