Rudeboy, Yes that does make me feel better. As time goes on and the more I see, I feel more at ease. Talking of Beer, I may need one or three before my first meeting /demo. The problem is I haven't had a single alcoholic drink for 8 months (didn't stop because I was an alcoholic or anything!) and I'm scared I miss the whole thing after my first pint |

I just PM'd you Sharper13, but I think you've done the decent thing, and headed off to bed for the night. It's not important, we'll chat another time. |

Just saw the remark about 'you need a beer on a demo'. Not at all! I never have a drink on a demo - it's water all day for me. I still love the demos, and the singing. And it means I get to really involve myself in great conversations. They are fantastic days out even without a drop of alcohol. And I'm someone who loves to get drunk So please don't feel the alcohol is compulsory. People who used to drink on the days, but who know I don't and yet see my fun, have also stopped drinking on them. The days are not intimidating in the least. Just mildly exciting and with a lot of cameraderie. Or maybe my threshold for excitement has been set unreasonably high? Anyway, look forward to each one tremendously. Maybe we need a Teetotaller Division

Hey sharper. You've done the right thing, in my opinion. Just joined up and taken a back seat and look at the workings and situation of EDL and decided whether or not it is for you. I'm glad you made the decision to become involved. |

Namaste. Yes I was similarly offended by someone opposing flying the Israeli flag at EDL demos. Some people are just so lame. Luckily other EDL people denounced his provocation and saw through his divisiveness. These boards will always be targeted by infiltrators, thats just the nature of the game. Some are UAF type communists, Some are Nazis and some are Islamo-Fascists. |

Get a grip. Opposing the use of the Israeli flag at demos doesn't make anyone a nazi. Doesn't even mean they oppose Israel. I think the use of the Israeli flag at demos is very questionable and I am not anti-Israel. It is a political statement and the EDL is a non-political organisation. |

I don't think that he was saying that, "People who oppose the use of the Israeli flag at demos', are Nazis." I also (my opinion) don't see the Israeli Flag as a "political statement". We just recognise that they suffer from the same problem we are beginning to suffer from [Militant Islam], and support them in that regard only. I wouldn't be surprised if we started to see Indian, Russian, and Swedish Flag's springing up - and any other country that has a problem with Islam. It is the 'English' Defence League, so the 'English' Flag will obviously dominate the crowd, but visible support from other countries is - IMO - a bonus. |

If other nations join us and display their flags, people can see that our concerns are just national but trans-national. And I don't see any problem with showing the flags of other nations showing our support for and from those nations. It gives the fingers-up to the UAF and David Cameron who thinks we are petty little englanders. |

Sharper, as regards going on a demo and feeling a bit anxious, the best thing to do is join your local EDL division. Then you can meet some of your local EDL members, get to know them and travel up to a demo with them, then you will be amongst friends. Then if you feel comfortable you can either continue to go with them or make your own arrangements if you prefer. |

Thank you all for the welcome above, appreciate your words of advice. Hi Road_Hog, yes, anxious is exactley the right word I think but many of the guys above have pm'd me with lots of good advice and words of encouragment. I will be looking at local divisions over the next few days (I need to get a very busy week at work out of the way so I have a clear mind) and will be in contact with them. I know its easy to do this through Facebook, but as I've mentioned to some of the guys above, It's not a place I want to go to to find out about the EDL. A lot of the groups are, to say the least, full of not so pleasant people, to put it nicely. Thats what made me disillusioned about the EDL in the first place. No offence to any FaceBookers
