A very worrying article, especially when you consider so many children go to school on their own, and this occurred in the morning. Spread the word. Police admit gang of paedophiles could be attempting to abduct children By Lucy Buckland lucy.buckland@essnmedia.co.uk ![]() Police revealed today (Thursday) they could be hunting a gang of paedophiles after two attempted abductions in Croydon. Croydon CID released details on the two attempted snatches of young girls by strangers in a bid to catch the people behind the attacks. In a special press conference DCI Pete Thomas, who is leading the investigation, said there had been two confirmed attempted abductions - one in Firs Road, Kenley, on May 10, and one in South Norwood on May 20. In South Norwood a 14-year-old girl was walking along Portland Road into Clifford Road when a white battered car pulled alongside her with two men and a woman and they asked her directions. The schoolgirl could not answer and walked away. But DCI Thomas said it was the next day as the child walked to school along Birchanger Road that the same car pulled up alongside her – this time with two men inside. Again they asked her directions but this time as she answered the passenger grabbed her by the arm and told her she had nice eyes. The girl then quickly ran off into Woodside Green. The driver is described as an Asian man in his 40s with facial scarring. His passenger is described as in his 20s, Asian and with a scar on his left wrist. Detectives want to speak to anyone who saw the car, which is described as white, battered and small or anyone who recognises the descriptions of the suspect. In Kenley on May 10 DCI Thomas said again there was physical violence involved and the primary school pupil was chased and followed after a man tried to grab her. The girl was walking along Firs Road at around 8am when a man, described as Asian, scruffy looking and in his early 30s tried to grab her. She ran off and he ran after her along Hayes Lane - the girl tried to get into the Hayes Primary School- but the school gates were locked. She then ran into Cedars Road and hid in some trees. The man was then picked up in a white battered car by a woman with long hair wearing hooped earrings. Police said the victim noticed when the man tried to grab her he had a "swirly red and yellow tattoo" on his lower back. DCI Thomas said: "What is concerning is there has been a spike in the numbers of young girls being approached by strangers. "What particularly concerns me is the girl in Kenley was pursued for about 20 minutes. "Worst case scenario you cannot rule out there are a team of paedophiles working in the area." Police are appealing for witnesses to both abduction attempts. I don't watch TV but am pretty up to date with the news that is posted on-line. Has this even made national news? I haven't seen it. Surely something as serious as this should be top of the national news. |
