Children were thrust into racial hostilities today as the English Defence League clashed with police and anti-fascist groups in Newcastle.

Shops and pubs in the city closed as up to 3,000 EDL and Unite Against Fascism members took to the streets, chanting and waving banners.

The two camps came face-to-face near the city train station before their planned marches, with UAF protesters chanting 'Off our streets, Nazi scum' in response to the EDL's chorus of 'You're not English anymore'. They were kept apart by hundreds of officers from five forces.

Loving todays news.

Heres what UAF had to say...

Quote:

Antifascists celebrate success of protest against racist EDL

Antifascists in Newcastle are celebrating after a very successful demonstration of around 1,000 people outnumbered the racist thugs of the English Defence League.

The EDL's own demo descended into chaos as participants fought their own stewards.

The antifascist mobilisation called by UAF was made up mainly of local people, with coachloads of protesters coming from Yorkshire and Scotland in support. It represented the real Newcastle - a mixture of old and young, black, white and Asian people.

Local young Muslims - who have been targeted by the EDL and its racist anti-muslim campaign - took part in the demonstration alongside trade unionists.

The antifascist demo was full of confidence, with people singing and chanting as they marched. It received a warm welcome from people in the city centre - many of whom joined the march.

In contrast, the EDL's supposed showpiece mobilisation has seen them isolated in the community.

UAF national secretary Weyman Bennett said: "Today we had a victory over the racist EDL, outnumbering them two to one. There was a massive turnout on our demonstration from Tyneside.

"We were welcomed by the city and then we went and repulsed the fascist EDL. It was a fantastic demo - antiracists dominated the city."

If you were in the UAF and you constantly saw all of these lies why would anybody with a moral compass still support them?

I f**king hate liars and if we told lies on a scale like the UAF do I would be off.

Weyman you are a f**king fat wanker!

I've seen the pics on the Mail website and here's my view of it:-

I was there yesterday, in the Bigg Market and still taking pics. I saw the couple of kids who looked under 10(ish) and went to take their pic as it would have been a good image to portray in my view.
I stopped for a moment and realised i was going to take pics of somebodys children and decided to try and ask their parents or guardians for the day, anybody. I couldn't so decided not to take their photo!

Now, in the present climate and awareness of pedo's etc, who is the better brought up, me or the Mail camerman? ^o)
Being a father, i thought it best not to do it without asking first. It seems that the Mail have not got the same values!
Do you have enemies?
Good!

EDL, couldn't sue them, you can't defame an organisation.

For example, saying Parliament is corrupt is ok but saying,

Joe Bloggs MP is corrupt, is defamation. (Providing it's untrue. lol) :)

I see your point, yes, parents should be asked in this day and age.

The pics say to me that it was a nice, safe relaxed march, judging by

how the the kiddies are reacting. Which contradicts the Mail's write up.
---
It shows as well how the perceptions are put in place before the EDL set foot in

a town; in Dudley the citizens were told to board their shop windows up and people

told to stay out of town.

I like the cut of the jib of Newcastle police. :)

I understand what you are saying Jester, but have to disagrre with part of it.

What you did was just good manners but the press tog was doing his job (ie what puts bread on his family table), he also would need unposed images depicting an actual event.

There is no law to stop you photographing or videoing anything in a public place, and though your manners were good, don't fall into the trap being set by the lefties, they are just trying to take another right from us, making it easier for them control media output.

They use anti-terrorism to try stooping you taking pictures (as well as the peado angle), which is ridiculous as we all know anyone planning an attack could just look for the images on the web, or just use google maps for 3D planning.

Totally agree with you mate, just the way i was brought up.
The kids were having a great time and it was good to see couples, wives, girlfriends and families there for what was a great demo.
Although a party atmosphere with divisions meeting up and old friends saying hi, the message got across to those listening to the speeches and i was asked by many by-standers where they could get more info...result in as far as getting the EDL message across i think.
:)
PS Wish i had taken those pics as it does send a great message out, contrary to what the press are saying!
