I don't see how many of those questions relate to being a citizen of the United Kingdom. I mean, what does it matter if you know what the percentage of the population are 16 or under.....what about knowing things that are important , like the date of the signing of the magna carta, habeus corpus, trial by jury, fair play, English culture and so....Good god what has the date of when divorce became legal for men and women in the UK.....what about when did the ordinary folk get the vote, when did women get the vote and how was it achieved....suffragettes and suffragists. That test is just plain piss taking. I'm sorry. It has nothing to do with becoming a good citizen of this country. The yanks make you study the system of government, i.e. judiciary, the legislature and the whatever the third one is...(I forget ) and other things relevant to being a citizen of the United States.

Hi Brum I recall one of these things being posted on a forum a few years ago and everyone did crap. These tests are not absract questions that immigrants will be asked to answer off the cuff as it were. You only have to look at the fact that 45 minutes is given to answer 24 (?) multi choice questions. I guess its a little like BBC Question Time. They say the panelists are not told what the questions will be however they are briefed on what the subjects will be which you can tell by the fact most of them seem to have a stack of notes. You have failed the practice citizenship test. Questions answered correctly: 11 out of 24 (46%) Time taken: 06 minutes 41 seconds Please select 'Test summary' for a full summary of your test and for advice on how to use the Official Handbook and Study Guide to prepare for the actual test. Please note: At the end of the actual test, your answers will not be displayed on screen. At the end of the test session the test supervisor will tell you whether you have passed or not./////////////// Sheesh |

I got 13, however I don't feel bad at all. The vast majority of the questions were the obscure type you get from smartarse quizmasters in Pubs. Also I didn't pay £200 to the ever growing number of places offering courses in this, mostly taught by Muslims. |

I have a citinsenship test of my own. 1: football (soccer) or beheading in a football stadium? 2: Marry one woman and deal with it or marry ten children and use the public purse to pay for it? 3 Talk it through with your partner in a civilised way or stone the bitch in a football stadium?? 4; Read a cartoon and laugh or take to the streets and burn embassies? 5: Allow a fellow worker to eat a ham sandwhich during ramadam or cut his head off for being intolerant? 6: Be able to take the piss from christianity or be stoned to death for questioning Islam? You are a true Brit if you answered the second option for each question. INSHALLAH!!! |

Folks, there are three official ways in which people get through this part of the citizenship application process: a) Buy the official govt book. It's about 80 pages long (and quite a lot of photos). There is nothing on the test that is not in that book. b) Do a certain kind of ESOL course, and get the certificate. c) Bypass the need for any kind of certificate by getting someone in authority to certify that you don't need to do a test. I'm not joking. I read an article in a newspaper about people passing the test by b), yet only spending 1 hour in a class (they are supposed to do a few hundred hours). They are basically buying the certificate. I was flabberghasted when I discovered the c) option. I would not be surprised if it is not widely abused. My friend did the test last year and got something like 23 out of 24. When I quiz him on any of the things now, he can't get any of them right. It is a pointless waste of time. |
