Community Board Approves Mosque At Ground Zero There was a controversial vote Tuesday night on whether an Islamic community and prayer center should be built by ground zero. Emotions ran running high as enraged 9/11 families vehemently opposed the idea, even as a local community board voted in favor of it. "I don't want a mosque on the grave of my son and on the grave of everybody else who was murdered on that day," Rosemary Cain said. Two blocks from the hallowed ground at 45 and 47 Park Place a Muslim organization called the Cordoba Group, led by Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, wants to build the center. It would include a recreational facility, including a performing arts center and swimming pool and a library. But the biggest outcry is over the proposal for a prayer center in the buildings. "Muslims pray five times a day," Abdul Rauf said. "Prayer is important to all of us who are people of faith." Link http://wcbstv.com/local/ground.zero.mosque.2.1715233.html |

Same here mate, If this is built I don't think it will last very long. Its a disgrace even thinking of building a mosque there. |

complete lack of sensitivity. This is an insult - no two ways about it. I can see many New Yorkers exercising their 2nd Amendment right over this one |

That'd be like a christian group wanting to build a church on every spot where they massacred muslims in the crusades. A mosque near ground zero would be the biggest slapin the face you could imagine. It amounts to the fundamentalist mussies sticking their fingers in the face of freedom and saying ''FARK YOU, WE'RE HERE AND WE'RE GONNA SHOVE IT UP YOUR ASSHOLES, THANKS FOR THE LAND!!!'' |

I'm not sure why you're surprised, this is completely deliberate. It is part of Islamic policy, it shows that (to them) they are winning, a kind of triumphalism. It is why over here, if they can buy an old church or pub for conversion to a mosque, then they will. It's a kind of two fingers up, a rubbing of salt in the wounds. I'll try and find a site that I knew, that explained the exact theory behind it. |
