http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/blackburndarwenhyndburnribble/8110084.VIDEO__Candidates_clash_in_Blackburn_election_debate/ THE GENERAL election campaign in Blackburn moved up a gear today with the first showdown between the three main parties. Blackburn Cathedral was the venue, with a theme of 'Can we trust politicians?'........ But at times it seemed the event would be remembered not for the candidates on the podium, but because of one who wasn’t - Bushra Irfan. She is standing as an independent and was furious at being excluded from the event. As the debate got underway, she clashed angrily with Cathedral staff, and the shouting from her supporters at times drowned out the discussions. After 15 minutes, police were called and 'moved on' some of the protesters. ---------- http://www.bushrairfan.co.uk/discussion-forum.html “We have formed this party to broaden the appeal away from dogmatic party politics, enabling all disaffected voters to come together. This weekend I will be discussing the ongoing situations with Yvonne Ridley at an event organised by Friday Times, entitled ‘Get the Big Decisions Right’ the meeting starts at 3.30 for women and at 7.30pm for men, at the Shahi Qila in Blackburn. To book a place please ring Tel 07501000828 for men and Tel 07548947767 for women, so feel free to join in the debate.” ----------------------- lol @ that part no joint meeting then? cant even treat both sexes equally yet, never mind the populace !!? ------------------- Bushra Irfans campaign has taken off like Concorde, many concerned Muslims who did not vote out of protest, due to the Governments wars against fellow believers, are now eager to support her Independent campaign for real change here in Blackburn. fellow believers ^^ Also on her site she has a 'Discussion' part not an open forum (email only) however this wrote there. Discussion 1 Lord Pearson in his recent speech as the leader of the UKIP party stated that the threat from terrorism is from muslims, not from Irish Catholics, not from hindus, not from Buddhists, not from Sikhs but from Muslims so the Muslims should get together to resolve this problem. My response to this is :(from Bushra) that the threats from terrorism before September 11th were from Irish Catholics but they were not called Irish or catholic terrorists. I simply do not agree with Tony Blair that there was such a huge threat from terrorism in this country from Muslim terrorists that September 11th was the last resort so they had to attack Afghanistan. I noticed that the only real terrorism we had to fear then was from the Irish. Terrorism increased dramatically after September 11th . Muslim terrorists is inevitable and bound to be more likely as we are attacking, invading and bombing muslim countries. If we were attacking, invading or bombing sikh, buddhist, hindu, irish catholics, we would see more terrorists from those religions. We should not be blaming the religion nor blaming the reaction. If we stopped the action ( of invading and attacking people) we may see a dramatic fall in terrorism as violence begets violence. --------------------- At the end (of the meeting)Anjum Anwar, the Cathedral cohesion worker who helped organise the debate, apologised to the audience for the disruption caused by Ms Irfan’s supporters. She said: “I apologise for the unruly behaviour by my Muslim sister. "She forgot this was a house of God, and she wouldn’t have raised her voice in a mosque.” Anjum Anwar Mrs. Anjum Anwar, a teacher, has a unique job as a Muslim member of the staff of a cathedral. She was appointed as a dialogue development officer at Blackburn Cathedral in April 2007, working on its community cohesion, education, outreach and interfaith development agency programme. http://www.theasiannews.co.uk/news/education/s/491561_asian_scoop_peoples_honours Anjum and Chris soon realised that there was plenty of work to be done and set about holding discussion forums titled 'Clash of Civilisations' at the Cathedral, bringing in crowds of up to 300 people from various faiths. First Question "The first question put to me was 'why do you keep flying planes into our buildings?' and I've had to explain that terrorists are terrorists and terms like 'extreme Muslims' are misleading, because in my eyes I am an extreme Muslim, in that I follow my faith to the letter." "There is often a common belief that religion causes problems, but does it? It is more that some peoples concepts of religion need more understanding and respect." She also has a MBE and goes on to say (on reciveing it) "It was a very pleasant surprise. It is a privilege to get such an honour but I could not carry out my work without the support of my family and my colleagues at the Lancashire Council of Mosques. No suprise there then. You couldnt make this s**t up |

And another thing (I was in a rush before) I wonder how many mosques have a full time Christian 'dialogue development officer' to 'work on its community cohesion, education, outreach and interfaith development agency programme'? That'll be equality for you then. ;huh |
