Compulsory voting.; Good for democracy?

If the electorate was compelled to use their vote by law, or get fined, would this be a good thing? When you get a less than 50% turnout it is hardly representative of the views of the people. And if a person does not want to vote for any candidate then fine, there could be a box to tick for that choice. Its just the number who moan about politics and then say they don't vote is amazing. Politics affects us all so all should make their views known.
