http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/8621407.stm Airline passengers are facing massive disruption across the UK after an ash cloud from a volcanic eruption in Iceland grounded planes. The Air Traffic Control Service (Nats) said no flights would be allowed in or out of UK airspace from midday to 1800BST amid fears of engine damage. The restrictions were imposed after the Met Office warned the ash was sufficient to clog engines. Passengers were also affected in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. Passengers were advised to contact their carriers prior to travel. Experts have warned that the tiny particles of rock, glass and sand contained in the ash cloud would be sufficient to jam aircraft engines. its even halting all flights from and to Ireland http://www.rte.ie/news/2010/0415/travel.html Edited by Irish_Kid, Apr 15 2010, 12:11 PM.

I live in the north of Iceland and not effected by the activity down south. The big problem is just how long this will go on for. The last time there was an eruption like this was in the late 18.00,s and it went on for 2 years!! There will be no flights over the UK now until at least tomorrow morning. I,m due to fly home for a few days on the 4th May and hope I can still make it. |
