In September 2005 four years after the despicable terror attacks on the WTC, there was a major incident involving 12 cartoons depicting the bloke Muslims call their prophet mohammed was published in the Dane newspaper called Jyllands - posten. when bigoted imams & clerics realised that they could use these cartoons to stoke the disaffected Islamic youth across Europe into doing just what they wanted, the path was open to show the middle east just how hard done by and totally intolerant Europe was towards Islam in general. all this was a crock of bull**** but the average man in the street in Jordan- Syria- s, Arabia wasn't to know that were they. all around Europe & then the world some Muslims were outraged and what followed was months of protests, marches, demonstrations, Embassy's burned and personal attacks with hundreds of deaths over 250 in February 2006 alone.. obviously all of this made Britain and Europe Question the pros's and cons of free speech, artistic freedom, forever worrying if we were about to upset one particular community, is it fair that one community should be taken into account more than any other when it comes to such simple things as drawings. a London theatre 'THE BARBICAN' carved chunks out of their production of Tamburlaine the Great because they was worried it may offend Islam, The whitechapel Art gallery removed life sized real dolls by the surrealist artist Hans Bellmer from an exhibition, just before it's opening simply as 'not to shock{Muslim} population of the east London neighborhood. London's Royal Court Theatre cancelled a new adaption of ARISTOPHANES - Lysistrata, set in a Muslim heaven for fear of causing offence to the Muslim community. These are just a couple of examples out of dozens that happened of people self censoring for fear of offending just one community above all others. IS THIS FAIR ? Which brings me to my point {i do have one honest What do you think the limits should be, or should there be any ? to you is free speech : been able to say whatever i want whenever i choose about anything that i feel i want to talk about ? or is your definition prepared to take into account slander, libel, national security, OTT pornography, incitement to racial religious cultural hatred etc ? is there anything sacred about our right to say what we want, should we have to think about everything we say so we don't offend a certain community or should we be more like America an have the right to express ourselves Artistically, in the press, our blogs ,even what we post here on these threads on this site ? Even the staunchest of us accepts that the line has to be drawn somewhere DONT WE! I'm very curious about this, it is something i have wanted to ask you all for a while but because it is quite long winded i haven't got around to, i would like to see just what peoples views on FREE SPEECH really is. if its of any interest i truly believe that we should be absolutely 100% completely entitled to free speech surely everyone knows within themselves where the line is.
