Sounds interesting. A few lads on the estate had them in the 80's when i was growing up, but they seemed to fade out. They had there own language, is it still in practice. How much is set up cost. |

Valid point, benefit of radio is you can only be traced if you stay in 1 position and even then it takes them a good while, with mobile they know where you are in seconds as it goes through a local mast. Edited by sicknfedup, Feb 26 2010, 12:14 PM.

Think you can wire them into your vehicle electrics for constant use. At security firm i worked for someone hijack our band shouting sick things about kids it took the police and 3 radio vans 4 weeks to triangulate his position. |

Having been involved in CB when it was on AM in the later '70s & early '80s, I've played about with it on and off for the last 5-6 years. It isn't anything like it used to be, where half the street used to have a radio. It tends to be the die hards using AM/SSB/FM who go for a lot of the long distance contacts, people in groups such as the 4X4 green laners, retired people who have their own little group that chat on a regular basis, town/city hotspots where it is still widely in use (Birmingham) and truckers. CB language is no longer used and anyone using it is likely to get ignored. Yes we have mobiles but they are mainly one to one conversation and can be expensive, when you're in a group, say convoy, a CB is far easier to use and you can use it whilst driving. It was deregulated a few years ago (no licence needed anymore) and this was done so that it could be given over to religious groups (oh yes, you can guess which one they were aiming it at) to do religious broadcasts and call to prayer. His I still have a mint President Lincoln. |

Yes, but the CB licence was just a bit of paper and a revenue raiser. The AR licence is a licence given for passing an exam/test. Having said that, the AR licence is now split into 3 levels and only a complete window licker would not pass the base level (restricted use and power). |
