It seems his mental illness is part of his defence and its what caused him to forget about the dogs.Fair enough, but what is a man who is mentally ill doing on police duty? How many armed police are also suffering from mental health problems?

He was found guilty and given a conditional discharge mainly due to being mentally ill.

He was found guilty and given a conditional discharge mainly due to having a good solicitor.
Fixed your quote for you. As someone who loves dogs and had to have one of them put down last Friday (early stages of kidney failure and a large tumour in her stomach, she was almost 16 years old), I'm afraid I find it hard to believe his statement, 7 hours he left the dogs, on the hottest day of last year. How can you forget dogs left in the car for 7 hours?

Just saw this on the news, if he was mentally ill why was he aloud to serve and "protect" as a police officer, and given two dogs!

Shocking story. Should have served time regardless of `mental illness`. Agree with Crispy about being allowed to serve in the force and being the owner of two big dogs.

I think you are right about that. His solicitor used his so-called health condition to get him off.If you get arrested at a demo just say you are suffeirng from depression and obsessional compulsive disorder and you don't really know why you are there.

mental illness is trotted out by everyone caught doing something iffy these days. it does a disservice to people with genuine mental health problems.

And then do you know what will happen they keep you in the cells until a doctor comes and if he says you are suffering from a mental illness if your lucky you might get sent home until they find a aproperaite adult for you to sit in the interview .

If your not lucky they take you to a mental health unit where you might be kept in for a couple days or they could section you until till you freed by a committee and if they release you your on anti psychotic
drugs and they can you back to hospital with police force any time its no easy get out card
