I was yesterday at the Stoke demo. Many of the people on the forums already know me an know im dedicated to the cause of the EDL. I have attended several demo`s, been out flyering, arrange meetings, spent a lot of time and money to support my beleifs. Many who know me will agree that i am as game as the next man, but there is a time and a place for it!!
I am maybe a bit more of a realist than some, i did expect some trouble yesterday, but not the degree as what we were all a part of (wether you took part in anything or not, by being members of the EDL we were all involved) i expected a small number of people to get things an charge police lines etc. I do not think this is exceptable, as much fun as it maybe, it is extremely dangerous more than anything, i was lead to beleive that we were going to have marshalls to help avoid this.
I was filming the speeches at the stage, when i was told it was kicking off round the corner, and as someone who really beleives in what im doing, took it upon myself to go help the marshalls, I managed to get to the police line where i found people pinned on the floor getting trampled on, unable to get up. This is when i realised there was no f**kin MARSHALs anywhere. Myself and a handful of others tried to stop what was going on, we suceeded breifly. I gave up trying to stop it an just spent around 30 minutes being squashed & pushed around, i only remained at the front of it all as i would prefer that i risk some minor injuries, to avoid people being more seriously injured. I rally do think that we were lucky no-one got seriously hurt.

As a member of the EDL, i am concerned about how we are potrayed by the media, a lot of us are, as we have made an effort to try to gain support, which is what we need to actually acheive anything, innidents which were largely un-provoked like yesterday do not do us any favours, it just puts us one step closer to being banned as an organisation. which is not what any of us we want!!
I have to say that some of the stuff that was going on was f**kin disgraceful. At the same time, dont think i am singling out any one individually to blame, but there has to be a concious effort by everyone involved to stop some of this s**t going on. I dont know why we didnt have any marshalls, but if not i think we are looking for trouble as what happened yesterday.
I think if we wish to continue, we have to take a long hard look at how protests are organised and who does what, an when, otherwise we will not last much longer.

On the positive side, up until this happened, as far as i know everything had gone well. I was very impressed at the turnout we did have, around 3 thousand is what is in the media, i think maybe a bit more than that.
Anyway, sorry for the rant but this is something we need to think about for the future.

Pablo

You must be one of the lads I saw then. Either a EDL top or a black top - backs to the police, trying to encourage people to get back. Credit to you.

I did see someone with an 'EDL Steward' vest on, so there must have been some about. Not enough I suppose. Hope there'll be lots next time. There should be a line of stewards keeping the lads well away from the OB. The OB should be told not to come near the line. Seems a simple solution. But only to a simple soul like me! :)

There were stewards between EDL and police to start with - not many I admit. Not a great deal they can do under a surge though, so I am not digging at them.

Lets face it lads, we were not prepared for the number of supporters which in itself is not a bad thing.

We have learned a few lessons from Stoke, lessons that we are taking on board but lets not forget the passion involved in what we stand for. This is about our children's future and safety.

I am not for one minute condoning the actions of a few idiots, we do not need that shit. But at the same time we are going to be portrayed as the bad guys by the media no matter what, for now anyway.

We need to break through to this spineless government who are doing their best to ignore us.

Why not do a protest in a football or sports stadium, everyone can be seated and the emphasis can be on speeches not drinking etc

That's exactly what our enemies would like us to do, tuck us away nice and tidily where no bugger can see us.

Might as well tippity tap on the keyboard as do that mate.

How is having stewards between the lads and the OB going to help if the OB keep insist on sqeezing us into a smaller and smaller space (kettling)? Inevitable in that situation after 3 hours in the pub etc that there will be some reaction against this governments enforcers. Plus what if yesterday you had Stoke stewards trying to hold back Vale or Wolves lads, not gonna work and could backfire.

Better to have a complete rething on tactics in light of OB tactics and brutality.

Appeasement to OB not worked in my view. In a big group the lads want to march and show people how they feel. Hardly unreasonable is it in a country that is supposed to allow free speech.?

So how about doing some lightening leafleting in town centres, outside key locations, Supermosques and Saudi embassy etc and not telling OB we are coming. say groups 100 or 200? Maybe 3 or parts of a big City like Brum/ west mids or Londonistan on same day?

Change timing to earlier in the day so no time for tanking up? say noon starts?

The kettling only came into play after it started to kick off near the stage. Even while that was going on a lot of the regular bobbies made no attempt to contain the crowd.

Couldnt agree more about the stewards and credit to those that tried to hold back the mob.

and I note that the membership has risen to over 9000 that is up by 200 plus on yesterday.
Let's get it back on track, we're growing by the minute. Expect the negative crap as the leftist media and the Government realise the masses are finding their teeth.

We didnt apply for a march, the permissions that were granted by the local council, and police were for a static demo, so that is the reason we never were allowed to march.

Exactly. its no good turning up and then demanding to march and starting on the police. It needs to be arranged beforehand. Why can't some of the brainless thickos understand that?

Meaty, as far as i know, after reading your posts on other threads you are either someone who has no real interest in this an just or troll!! we are here for constructtive chat, i.e. progression for EDL on the whole, how to learn from mistakes etc.
There is a serious issue in todays world with militant islam and wether you accept it or not some of us are prepared to stand against it, i am not saying we have all the answers because well we dont, but we are learning and growing on an exceptional scale.
So we cant all be wrong or can we?
