First of all, let me say that while i fully support the cause you fight for, i have not yet been to any demos myself, nor do i have any history on this forum, so i will understand if my views dont hold much weight with the majority of you.

I am from Stoke myself, but decided not to attend today purely because i knew what was going to happen. As its been said, Stoke was always going to be a dubious choice to hold a demo. It has its share of Muslims who sympathize with the extremists, but on the other hand im sure you're all aware that Stoke is home to a lot of the "thug culture" that was so clearly displayed today, with a lot of the local footie chavs trying to live upto the whole N40 legacy...it was always going to happen.

To the leaders/members giving the "Thats it, im leaving" speeches. I can sympathise with you, and i imagine the frustration you must feel, especially after all the hard work you obviously put into the events. However i think you need to realise that the goals of the EDL pretty much go hand in hand with the racist views shared by many the UK, and for that reason EDL marches are ALWAYS going to attract an element of undesirables, as well as bad press/media coverage at every turn. Lets be honest, out of "2000 EDL members stage peaceful protest" and "2000 right wing extremists cause city riots".... which one is going to sell more papers, which is all they care about at the end of the day. Its almost as if todays events have come as a shock to some, where in my opinion they should have been expected. Furthermore,i feel the guys starting the trouble today are probably not members of this forum and probably have no interest in a democratic approach to the problem of extremist Islam in the UK. Splashing all these negative posts onto the forum only serves to weaken the integrity of the group, and obviously give anyone looking a bad impression to start with.

I feel the EDL are the first group who have made any serious headway in voicing the opinions of people opposed to extremist Islam, and letting all that go purely because of one bad demonstration would be a huge waste in my opinion. The only way forward is to devise a means of purging the small groups of people set on racial/alcohol fueled violence from the EDL marches, and ditching the whole football hooligan image thats somehow been unwillingly forced upon the EDL. Its that image thats stopping the average joe at home getting behind the cause. Creating a group that joe public feel comfortable backing is the only way things are going to change in the UK and drive the extremists out.

I hope my comments are taken as constructive criticism, as opposed to a dig at how the EDL is managed. The guys do a fantastic job, and i am 100% behind them :)

Smaller than Edinburgh?

Good post mate.
Patriotism is not racism.

For Queen and Country

British Muslim? No such thing.

Scottish Defence League

Kilmarnock was a success onwards and upwards.

Was down pub today with mates. Have been chatting about hooking up with EDL in Dudley. Pretty much agreed on it. Get home to find out about all the trouble. Have to say it will now require further thought before I turn up. I expect my mates will think the same.

Maybe this needs to be taken off the streets.
