http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8015023.stm

"Suada Hamidi is 19 years old, and lives in Sevenoaks, Kent. She left home at 15 and has lived independently since. Five months ago she lost her job.

After trying to manage on savings and borrowing money from friends and family, she signed on, and is now in receipt of jobseeker's allowance (JSA).

Because she is under 25 she gets just £50.95 - the lowest rate."

Out of that £50.95, £40 is spent on bills etc. She also needs £6 to get into town to sign on each week, leaving around £5 to live on. Why is it such a problem to actually put British first? £145 million was spent on Eastern European benefits claims in 2007 alone. Is it really that hard to give an extra £10 a week to people like this?

It is heartbreaking to see an entire generation thrown on the scrap heap just to make way for economic migrants. The English count for nothing anymore. That poor girl's situation is absolutely desperate like so many others. Although she remains optimistic,to me,her situation with this open border policy will just get even more desperate. What of next years school leavers?.

Hmm... I'm not sure what to think of this. She was offered a job (yes it was poorly paid, but it was a job nonetheless) and she turned it down. If it was full time it would still work out at much more than the money she was getting from benefits.

Beggars can't be choosers in the current economic climate I'm afraid.

This is how I feel

take the crappy job but continue to look for others right?

Im a student thats out of work waiting to go to university again.

How much money am I claiming on benefits?

I will not take a penny out this countrys pocket. I will sacrifice not going out, buying clothes etc until I find a job to support myself.

I think thats the attitude people have these days. My Nan and Grandad raised a family of 7 children and didnt ask for a f**king penny because they worked their fingers to the bone and made this country great.

I have no sympathy for those that arent willing to do a bit of temporary hard work (yes im planning to work in a factory for a bit).

edit: The only thing that annoys me is that she should have some kind of assistance with paying the bills. Why is Choudary on almost 30k yet this girl is only getting this much?

She was offered a job which, if she took, she would lose all her benefits. The amount of pay she would get each week was less than her benefits, and with literally £5 to live on after bills she can't afford to do this. If the pay was more than benefits, I would say she doesn't deserve it if she turned it down. However, she is clearly in a situation where the government needs to intervene

Why isn't she getting more?

There's no money, where are we going to get it from? If we're making budgets left, right and centre how the f**k do we make exceptions in this case?

All I can think of is free travel and and a small increase, but that's it. Next time she refuses to work, strip her of the free travel.

it says that the job she went for was 30 hrs a month, if you work less than 16 hrs a week your entitled to benefits, any more hours than that you may qualify for HB and ct benefit.if you are on a low income,

and as for the travel expenses the benefits office refund them this what it was when i was working within benefits,

(it does change often, even weekley, was in training for new and upcoming changes all the time, s**tty job its was only a fixed term app so im now laid off!!!).

when shes older she can go for working tax credit if she does more hours,(30 a week).

But theres no jobs around for anyone at the moment, so everyones in the same boat and have the same plight

If I was in power I would fund some large scale building projects to try to lower unemployment. Build a couple or a few barages over the country. She could work in the office as an admin. Thousands of people would be employed and the economy would be going again, stupid people in charge can't see the future. People must be given work or skills are lost. Also good for the enviroment and energy security. The young who could not cope with education need some opportunities so they can support the future pensioners of this country. Old people are going to be the biggest problem in this country in the future because they are going to need support from the young to supply their pensions.

Nice house nice clothes!, TV is a luxury so you dont need a license £5pw, electricity £5pw- most will be your Tv getting rid of your Tv will give you a bit of cash plus you wont be using all the electricity £5pw, plus it is a luxury you dont need it. £5 for the bus to sign on, you dont have a f**king job walk, another £5 saved. Gas get out walking like to sign on then you dont need the heating on about £8 saved.
So all in all out of her £55 quid a week, if she took my advice she would have around £30pw spare, she could go out on a Friday and Saturday night with what she saved.
