I just wanted to express my sadness at yet another British company being taken out. We have very little of our own worth anything and now we loose Cadburys. As good as the deal sounds now, 5 or 6 years down the line it will be another Tartr steel.

Very sad indeed.

Indeed. One of the oldest confectionary company in the world. This unique company took so much care over it's workers it created a workers town - bournville. The people working in factories here now will eventaully lose their jobs as the Americans outsource confectionary production to other parts of the world. People will lose there jobs to faceless bastards in America.

I work for an American company with offices in the UK (I'm Uk based obviously) and I've seen the devestation that American companies wreak on their employees abroad. Everything is outsourced to East Europe or India. The American companies are a disgrace.

Sell-outs, I call for a boycott of Cadbury's in the UK.

The Americans will just give the jobs that the business they created to 3rd world countries, then pay them a dollar a day. How could Cadbury's do such a thing? Abandoning the British workers, and essentially destroying a major part of Britain.

Thank you, Cadbury's.

And f**k you, I'm not buying anymore of your products.

I'm from Birmingham, my mom worked for Cadbury's in the offices for over 20yrs. Cadbury's is more than a factory to the people of Birmingham, it is an institution. The Bourneville village the Cadbury brothers built for their employees has been much imitated around the country.

It is another sad, sad day for Birmingham. We have lost virtually everything that made us a world power house, some gone forever in the shape of the BSA, Austin and Lucas, and a host of other companies.

Before you moan too much it's worth bearing in mind that Cadbury's need not've been sold and did you notice how the chief executives held out for a better price so they could get a bigger bonus and deal for themselves whilst again putting the the working man/woman on the dole?
It just goes to show what was in the minds of the so called bosses very quick to sell and sell everyone down the river to make themselves richer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, a lot of the share ownership was in hedge funds, these people are not interested in tradition, they are interested in making a killing on the stock market, and they have.

Business is about maximising profit, Kraft brought Terry's years ago and eventually closed the factory down and moved it abroad because of cheaper labour, again to maximize profit.

If anybody thinks Cadbury will be around in Bourneville in a decade, I can recommend a decent quack.

When in the supermarket buying goods I check to see where the item was made, I will not buy Polish mushooms but select the Irish ones unless some UK ones are available. I choose to buy local produce where possible, mostly for local jobs but also I don't believe we should be shipping produce over distance (fuel and pollution, traffic etc.) which can be relatively locally produced.
Here is my "racist" disclamer, I choose locally produced produce based on jobs/pollution/quality not because I have and issue with Polish people.

My choice is the same with Cadbury's - I now search for UK made choc made by the smaller outfits, there are some but you need to find them.

Keep it local, keep it British.
My cows are a reminder of the destruction by the UK Govt/DEFRA of our long standing dairy farming industry.
So please all members, think before you reply, if you only have silly schoolboy answers, leave it to the others who can answer in a civil way. (copied from Admin Ali) - let's try and put brains back into Britain.
