When someone you dont know walks in the room, what is the first thing you look at ?

Having done interviewing for many years, and knowing that some people arent going to like what i say, the first thing that strikes me about anyone that comes for an interview is HOW they look. This is not about colour / race this about how they present themselves i.e. shirt tie suit shoes etc etc ...

Now .... the EDL and the first impression of those looking at the EDL and its members at the protest is what ?

Wind forward to the last demo at leeds, and the soilder that made that speech (pat on the back great speech) but anyone notice how he presented himself .....

Imagine how it would look if every member of the EDL was suited and booted ...... every member dressed with a blazer, tie ... poppy in the lapel, an EDL divisional tie instead of the t-shirts and those ex service men/women bearing the creast of their regimental badge / medals ......

I think the public will really notice us and wont see us 'thugs' and i think we would find an ten fold increase in numbers by doing this ...

what do you think ?

I was going to suggest this very thing. It's a great idea.

Suited, booted and washed behind the ears. I'm all for that.

i dont ever see the police asking the muslims to remove their scarfs, so they should ask him to remove his..

What about a Burka? Or would that be considered 'racist'?

Can only Muslim's wear them? (Legally)

Seriously. I think a Black Burka would look good with a Black Suit.

Then Tommy won't need to say, "Does this look as intimedating as a Burka?". Because IT IS a Burka! :)

Good idea, but i personally cant see it working. I just can't see everyone wearing shirt and tie, i could be wrong like. Wouldnt be the first time.

What i mean is it wouldnt be the first time i had worn a shirt and tie, done that loads, and i have been wrong lots of times. Ahem!

No. At the Leeds speech, I thought he was just using a piece of cloth or something for temporary use.

Nah Dressing up like a Drag queen to strut the streets was never for me :) I was always the Kid who put minimal effort into Halloween to try to Maximize the Results, Eg a Hoodie and a Scream mask.

Are these allowed at the demo's? Or will the police refuse them and say, "Muslim's only"?

Have people been arrested for wearing them?

I have seen a few of those around. Not sure if the lads in question have had any sh*t off the police about it though.

To think of it, all that would happen is they say the same of us as they do of bnp.that we are trying to look respectable and we are just facists, nazis, blah blah. Yawn.

Never went for scary. I was always historical characters or occasionally literary ones. Not sure if people do that sort of thing here or if it's just scary things, that was when I was back in Seattle.

Was a couple generics; Musketeer, WWII para, Maccabee.
Also some specifics; MacArthur, Churchill, Grant. have to pick the ones with distinctive indicators

Understand the "good impression" argument. But is it workable? I'm sure there are many people here (I include myself in this) who can't afford a suit. Having a suited and booted division may be better?

I think this is a good idea as the EDL does have an image problem at the moment.Whilst the majority of EDL members are football supporters it might be an idea to present a more professional image so we look like a political protest group rather than a group of blokes going to a football match. The soldier in Leeds did stand out,he was someone who got people's attention due to his professional appearance, someone to be taken seriously.

Apart from regimental blazers, why do most people think that the wearing of a suit gives the right impression, attitude etc etc ?
when almost all con artists and rip off merchants wear a suit, car and insurance salesmen, lawyers solicitors, all out to unscrupulously part you with your money and the biggest of all is the members of Parliament
Besides it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference because the BNP tried a that approach and still got branded as Nazis or thugs in suits.
No i think personally EDL members should come dressed as what they do for a living plumbers, plasters etc etc
