and here is the posting from an officer who was at the Manchester demo........If only the Manchester Evening News could be as unbiased?

For one so cynical and without wanting to sound like a brown noser but credit where credit is due, yesterday's protest and anti-protest in Manchester City Centre was policed absolutely superbly imho.
I had the fortunate? Task of being involved at the thick end of things and can honestly say that the organisation and all people involved in the operation can give themselves a hardy pat on the back to a job very very well done. All commands were switched on and got what they wanted when they wanted, all troops on the ground listened in and did as they were told when they were told, to lock down an area such as Piccadilly Gardens on a busy Saturday afternoon when there are non involved members of the public going to various markets, shows shopping, plus the 80,000 rugby league fans who were attending the Challenge Cup final at Old Trafford, was no mean feat and done expertly and swiftly.
Granted you cant please everyone and Im sure there are some people who had they're day disrupted to them and those that had a good old whinge at me and my colleagues then I say now as I said yesterday, patience and understanding will help you all.
There was a very very serious and real threat of some serious disorder from both sides of the protests these were quelled to a few minor flare ups and dealt with swiftly and without complication. There would appear to be two distinct ways of being dealt with.
Whenever an EDL supporter was arrested, there was no fuss no aggro from their side, it almost appeared like an acceptance of they're fate, from what I saw very few put up a fight with the cops. I suppose that comes from the majority of them being active or ex football hooligans that are in these situations more regularly. Then there was the anti facist leage which tended to be populated by 3 distinct groups within the groups.
There were the militant, obviously seasoned hardcore campaigners and activists, there were the white middle class students all eating eco freindly noodles and drinking skinny mocha's while sporting a pair of brand new doc martins, then there was the local trouble causing usual suspects who were attempting to stir things up. These were being berated by there own, dragging down the levels of almost politeness and acceptance that appeared to have been drawn.

I can honestly say as politically incorrect as it may seem that the least offensive chanting and behaviour came from the EDL. At worst there were a couple of union jacks and the odd No Surrender chant. Some of the AFL chanting was a little more extreme and there were quite a few "pro" 9-11 t shirts being banded about. The EDL when bored went to watch the England game and were escorted out of the area with no real issues.
Whereas the AFL extremists who were dealt with put up more of a fight, almost a complete unacceptance that they could be arrested and completely opposite to the EDL. They hung around, refused to be dispersed and when dispersed small splinter groups of asian males were reported to be "hunting" down innocent young white males and assaulting them. Then there was the attempt by a few hardcore anarchists to perform the usual anti establishment damage at well known chains of various food/coffee outlets.

I would like to add my disclaimer at this point.
I do not support the EDL. I am making an observation that there would appear to be an almost "professionalism" in the way they were policed almost an acceptance that had been gained through they're experience of being policed at football matches, section 60 & aa searches, no issues, being filmed/photographed by evidence gatherers, no issues.
The lack of experience shown by the majority of the AFL supporters in being "policed" in such situations shone through, constantly being questioned on being searched, a complete unawareness of the law and the belief that the police had no rights to deal with them whatsoever.
When questioned in my cordon on the front line of the AFL by a young middle class white female with a ring through her nose and filming me on her I Phone "why are you here, why are you doing this" I just simply answered.
"look at them, look at you, if we wernt here they would rip you to peices, we are just here to make sure everyone gets to say what they believe in and go home in one peice"
She took one look over my shoulder at the group of EDL who by there appearance had obviously got a fair bit more of a physical presence and she said, "fair enough".......

Good day, lots and lots of decent people, a couple of idiots from both sides that were dealt with promptly, correctly and efficiently.
Pat on the back to all concerned.Clap

Once more I want to add, I DO NOT SUPPORT THE EDL I AM MAKING OBSERVATIONS BASED ON WHAT I WITNESSED AND EXPERIENCED ON THE DAY....thank you...

They seem to be uploading them much faster than us. I've noticed a few of them that make up complete lies, and upload at least one new video almost every day: Now if that's not an Extremist working over-time for his 72 virgin payment, I don't know what is.

You can usually spot the one's full of lie's quite easily. If they've disabled the Rating's and Comment's, you can be pretty sure that it's propaganda.

Brilliant read. I think the police like us in a way, i mean if they whack one of with their asps/batons we don't cry and run off to the guardian screaming 'police brutality' most of us would just take it, hazard of the job. Also they know the reds hate them, well the reds hate everyone including themselfs. I think if they was asked the question; Who would you join if you had to, the EDL or The UAF/lefties most would choose us.
