Contests and Challenges - Rules and Guidelines

The Contests and Challenges section is here so that members can run their own writing-based contests. The idea of the contests is to make all members that participate better writers.

If you want to run a contest, PM your idea to a Moderator or an Administator (there are several of them running around here). If it is approved, you're on your way to running a contest.

Mod-Sponsorship:

If you want to have a Mod (or Mods, or even the whole Mod team!) sponsor (i.e. help judge) your contest, all you need to do is ask. We are always happy to do so as we know the value of a well-ran contest. If you don't seek Mod-sponsorship, that's fine too! We accept and encourage independent contests and challenges.

Guidelines/requirements for running a contest:

- Judges. The person running the contest will probably be one of these. We recommend having at least two judges to help ensure impartiality with judging.

- A deadline. How long will you run your contest? We as the Mod team recommend at least two weeks. This gives participants plenty of time to write and submit their entry (entries should be PM'ed to all judges.).

- Participants. Message members around the site. Message Moderators who aren't judging. Ask them if they would be interested in participating. You can't have a contest with no contestants!

- Give your contest a fitting title. If it's a contest to see who can write the best murder scene, don't title it "Cow-Tipping Contest."

Coming soon - official site contests:

At Drowned In Words, we plan to run monthly, site-wide contests. These will be organized and judged by the Moderator and Administrator teams. Be sure to head over to the Announcements section every once in a while to see if one is up! These will be started soon, hopefully during the month of June.

Thanks for your compliance and participation,
Moderation
