Just because its SO fun to write Umeko and Souzou- ITS JUST TOO MUCH FUN TO RESIST.

Part I

--

BAM BAM BAM

There was some kind of pounding invading Souzou’s valuable sleep.

BAM BAM BAM

Construction work? No, it was too early.

BAM BAM BAM BAM

Neighbor? Doubtful, that guy hasn’t gotten laid for as long as Souzou has been there.

BAM BAM BAM

Aw hell, that was the door wasn’t it? His door. Who in their right mind would be knocking on his door in the middle of the night?

The knocking stopped. Souzou snuggled his pillow and tried to recapture his dream. It had been a good one. Umeko had been wearing leather pants.

BAMBAMBAMBAMBAM!

Muttering to himself, Souzou opened his eyes and fumbled for the clock. 3:24. Seriously? All right, now he was just curious.

Souzou found his bathrobe on the floor and stumbled out into the living room. By the time he found the lightswitch and one of his slippers, the knocking had degenerated to a kind of wistful rapping. Whoever it was seemed to be trying to tap out some kind of melody, but kept forgetting the notes or switching songs.

“I’m coming!” Souzou shouted, realizing belatedly that there might be an actual reason for this interruption. The knocking stopped, just as he reached the door and twisted the knob.

Umeko Takechi in the hall, blinking owlishly. She was missing her captain’s coat and her shinihami uniform was already hanging off her shoulder to expose her left shoulder’s bare flesh. Her ponytail was a complete mess and her balance was extremely off as she was swaying slightly as she entered.

“Umeko?” Souzou said out of sheer shock, both at the woman and her condition.

Umeko’s bloodshot eyes focused on Souzou after a pause that was just slightly too long to be blamed on the hour, and she pointed dramatically.

You!” Umeko shouted. “’S’all your fault.”

“Oh good,” Souzou said, a slight smirk, “You’re drunk.”

Umeko pushed past him into the apartment, and Souzou shut the door before his neighbors got curious.

“’Ever’thing tha’s happened has been all your fault,” Umeko continued, waving her arms and pacing. “’F’it wasn’t for you I’d still be depressed an’ miserable. But at least I wouldn’t be depressed an’ miserable an’ confused and-and-and...”

She stopped and swayed dangerously while gripping her stomach harshly. Souzou automatically grabbed her arm to keep her steady, and Umeko swung her head around to glare at the shorter man.

“’S’all your fault,” he muttered again. “Wha’s up with your hair?”

“What?” Souzou said.

His mind was racing wildly, trying to figure out what to do. He’d been in this particular situation before but it wasn’t exactly as violent and anger as this, and he was somewhat distracted by both the view of Umeko’s collarbone and the reek of sake that was coming from her pores.

“Your hair.” Umeko reached out and grabbed a handful, not hard, “’S’not spikey.”

“I was sleeping.”

“Y’use gel?”

“Of course. Did you think it was natural?”

Umeko just blinked at him.

“Uh, look Umeko, why don’t I walk you home? You- Wait, how did you even get here? And how do you know where I live?”

“Walk pass it…,” She released Souzou’s hair and waved her hand again, nearly falling over from the momentum, “Lotsa times. Middle’a the night. Sometimes ‘afore work. Go an’ lean on th’ door when I know yer not a’ home.”

Souzou realized his mouth was hanging open, “What- Why? Do you hate me that much?”

Umeko burst out laughing. The loud over-the-top laugh of the completely hammered.

“Hate you? I prolly should! Affer ever’thing you’ve caused! Makin’ me question ever’thing about myself. Ever’thing ‘ve ever done. Ever! Makin’ me remember what it was like to be happy!”

She grabbed hold of the front of Souzou’s bedclothes and leaned in close, too close, breathing fumes in his face. Under any other circumstances…

“I didn’ remember. I thought all I needed was t’ be successful an’ win all th’ time an’ believe in Aizen-sama… an’ that was all I needed! But you came an’ you were always smilin’ an’ you had friends…,” she swayed back. “An’ you believed in people! You trusted people! You trusted me.”

She let go of Souzou and shook off her grip, stumbling away and flailing her arms.

“’F’it wasn’ for you I’d still be Umeko Takechi the demon professor, the hardest teacher in swordmanship and-and! ‘Stead of Umeko Takechi, the big STUPID captain, who always gets all her paperwork done ‘cept wen she’s int-interrupted by her ANNOYING fellow captain who she has a STUPID crush on!!”

For a second, time seemed to stop. Umeko was still doing a decent impression of a crazy street person, but Souzou couldn’t hear her. He couldn’t hear anything.

He was aware of his voice saying, “What?” but it didn’t break through his reverie. It wasn’t until Umeko made a full circuit of the small living room and wound up shouting directly in his face again that he remembered what a bad situation this was.

“…an’ yer stupid voice soundin’ all worried, an’ carin’ about me and your damn damn convictions.”

“Takechi-taichou,” He grabbed the woman by the shoulders, “You’re drunk. I don’t think you realize what you’re saying. This is more angry drunk than usual so I-,”

“I’m saying I’m in goddamn love with you an’ it’s all your fault! So take respon- re-responsible for it!!”

She put his hands on Souzou’s ribs and leaned in close again, “An’ my name is Umeko. Y’keep saying it in public when ya don’t remember, an’ then I have to go splash my face hide my face cause so WEIRD?”

Souzou swallowed hard.

“Look, uh, Umeko. I really think you ought to get home and get some sleep. And, um, drink some water. Lots of water. Water is…uh…,” Umeko’s hand was drifting down his side, “Water is good.”

“’S’all your fault,” Umeko muttered again, then her grip tightened around Souzou’s waist, and she knocked him over onto the couch.

There was a moment of awkward and FAR too pleasant squirming, then Umeko wound up lying on top of Souzou, their faces almost even. Her eyes transfixed Souzou, another moment frozen in time.

“M- Umeko,” Souzou forced himself to say, “Please. You’re drunk. This isn’t…”

Umeko ignored him, closing her eyes and moving her head down oh-so-slowly until their lips were a hair’s breadth apart.

“I don’t want to feel the way you make me feel…”

The rush of desire Souzou had been fighting since Umeko had first grabbed hold of him suddenly swept through him, and he dug his fingers into Umeko’ sides.

“Umeko…”

He pressed his lips against her, trying his hardest to be gentle when approaching the absolutely intoxicated fifth division captain- he didn’t bother question why she was so drunk. In his defense, he most certainly lacked the time to ask as the thought hardly crossed his mind after he found something a lot more interesting to do.

--

Umeko wasn’t sure why she woke up sore some mornings, it would become difficult to wander out of her bed because her legs would throb and her body would ach in places she wasn’t entirely sure she could openly express. This had been happening for over a three months now and it was becoming quite a nuisance. Accompanied by strange, large coats she never remembered owning covering her body and a strange smell of sweat and sake would remain stale in the air before she could air it out.

She chalked it up to Souzou drunkenly wandering into her house at night and raiding her fridge- and that’s it.

It wasn’t until she began making frequent trips to the bathroom in the mornings to throw up food she didn’t remember eating that she began to get a bit concerned. Rationalizing it to a virus of some sort, she went back to her captain duties. A short while after she noticed her period was rather late, suspicious once again- she decided it was because of stress and stopped work early for the day to sleep.

Along those lines, she noticed she had become tired a lot more often than usual. She could no longer complete her training without taking a break in-between to go to the bathroom or to lie down. It was becoming a nuisance to the point that she noticed in the middle she began to look- chubbier. There was definitely something wrong when she realized she had to loosen her belt.

The horrifying through that she was gaining weight was a flash off horror- but nothing in her lifestyle should have caused such a thing! It was absolutely mind boggling!

She continued to sulk in her office, trying to keep awake even when sleep threatened to over take her.

“Ah! Umeko!” Souzou managed to find himself into the office, a smirk on his face and a swagger in his walk.

He had become crazily informal to her the past couple of weeks but she didn’t speak up about it too much as he was the same Souzou with only a few different physical issues. He was invading her personal space far more than he used to and would sometimes hug her from behind at inappropriate times- then become insanely confused when reprimanded or when her elbow who meet his face the moment she felt his arms.

“Can I help you with something, Souzou-san?” she asked politely, smiling calmly while shuffling her papers and standing up slowly, “Ah.. forgive me, I seem to have a bit of a headache…”

She noticed her vision going slightly blurring, Souzou was fazing between right and left and his image was disappearing from her mind. Muttering a few words of questions before her legs gave out, Umeko slammed into the fellow captain who immediately caught her from collapsing.

“What… in the…,” where her last words before she closed her eyes and passed out.

--

“Ah! I apologize for causing such a bother with this small cold of mine- its just been very strange recently!” Umeko bowed her head lowly, “Though I know it’s not very serious, so forgive me once again.”

“Takechi-taichou… I… I’m not sure how to tell you this,” the medical shinigami mumbled, looking away slightly.

Umeko smiled politely towards him, giving him all the time he need to sort out his thoughts. She was a healthy girl and knew no news about her condition could be so terrible- she could easily remedy it within any given period of time without any problems.

“You’re pregnant.”

There was no simple remedy for that.

The doctor wasn’t quite sure what to do when a strange emotion ran through the facial features of Umeko Takechi’s face- her eyes widened slowly, her chest tightened and her hands became fists in her lap.

“Ah…..Ah… I see,” she mumbled, slightly processing the information, “Is this a term you use for some new joint problem? ‘Pregnant with acid in your joints’… or?”

The doctor winced at Umeko’s utter denial of the possibility.

“As in… You have a child growing in your stomach,” he turned around to grab some water for the suddenly gaping captain.

It didn’t take long before he head a loud thud on the wooden floor and looked back to see a very passed out Umeko Takechi sprawled over his floor. The respectable Captain fainted from the sudden news- in either shock or horror… He couldn’t really tell.

But seriously, drunk!Umeko is hilarious. And seeing the awkwardness of her antics was great--especially when it made even Souzou feel awkward.
