A strange man walked along the old community parks path. The cool air was fragrant with the smell of the spring flowers. A large Willow tree provided adequate shade over a bench along the shoreline of a tranquil pond. Upon the bench, a rather large, fat black cat was sleeping contently. The man let down his dark brown hair from a pony tail, and combed it with his fingers a few times, as he walked with a slow gentle pace over towards the bench. The cat twitched its ears in the general direction of the man, and raised it's head to inspect the intruder, and glared eye to eye with the stranger. Their eyes were the same rich hazel color. The cats eyes were sharp and focused; the man's were gentle and sullen. after a second, the cat curled back up, and resumed it's sleeping, as the man took a seat next to it. The man closed his eyes, and took a deep breath. He opened his eyes, and gazed over the spot on the pond where the morning sun's reflection was, and sighed. And with a subtle outburst, the man began speaking, just loud enough that any passerby on the trail could hear him. "Life, as of this time four weeks ago, is drab. Sure, I could be out there doing stuff, but the sin of sloth is with me. In my laziness, I find myself more and more questioning the same philosophical questions that have been asked over and over countless times before; Why am I here? What is the meaning of Life? And whilst I contemplate, I fall deeper into a form of despair and angst. " He paused for a bit, staring down at the tub of lard that was the cat to respond in some way. No such luck. "Life seems sort of pointless and painfully slow. The things I used to like have lost their glory, and the friends I have made are drifting further and further away. It feels as though all I can really do is write horrid works of fiction (or poetry) or spit cynical sadistic comedy out upon the world. I do not really feel connections of people I am with, until I start to miss them, and even then, it's minor. Even the relationship between mother and son seems somewhat... forced, and I regard her as more of an acquaintance I know really, really well. I sort of miss making fun of the people with my old friends whom we mutually agreed were complete idiots. " At this point, the cat sat up, and began to stretch a bit, before looking off towards the path. Perhaps some woodland creature was stirring, but the cat didn't budge. "I used to be such a carefree fellow; I'll never forget the look of the faces of that one couple who walked in on me while I was wearing my thong, or that one hormonal elf dude that tried to kill me. Those times were the days when I could genuinely smile. Alas, Now I am forced to carry arms I do not know how to wield, and in this era, the number of willing teachers for the said weapon are seriously limited. Maybe I can just grind down the edges and make it into a metal club? It'd be a hell of a lot easier. Perhaps, I should re-evaluate my goals... It has always been a goal of mine, to touch the intangible; to do what no one else has done before. I say that, and I have pursued that, but in all honestly, I don't have a clue as to where to begin. It IS a rather vague goal. I had thought I would try to touch the very spirit of Light, and commune with it, however all leads I've had have led me to nothing but tragic dead ends, and possibilities of new leads are pretty slim. Maybe a series of smaller goals leading to the big picture would be best, what? I feel I may go mad if I can't decide soon..." The man stopped. A faint smile fell across his face as the cat laid it's head on the side of his thigh, and began to purr lightly. He reached his hand over to stroke the feline, but the moment he made contact. It's front legs were wrapped around his arm and it's high legs kicking at his hand. It looked like something between the cat wanting to maul the arm off, or cuddle and clean it. after a brief amount of struggling on the cats end, it let go and promptly started to lick itself clean. The man merely chuckled. "Thanks for listening, it really helped a bit." He sounded genuinely relieved, but he groaned as he got out of the seat. He staggered a bit, before hobbling over to the willow tree that shaded them for the duration of his one sided conversation. He pulled out a small dagger, and began to carve something onto the tree. One word, no... a Name was carved there... "Adyeruz" |
