This wouldn't leave my head until it was thoroughly typed. Please excuse me while I shoot myself. Told in Souzou's POV -- "...whom would you like to do?" I blinked. Once. Twice. "Um. What?" Umeko sighed and explained herself, "You have quite a few mission statements here. Which one would you like to see first?" "Oh," I mumbled, which earned me a quick glare. "Sorry. Uh...how about that one?" She nodded silently and proceeded to look through her file. "You really shouldn't daydream like that, Souzou. I'm here to help you," Umeko scolded. I cracked an apologetic smile. "Yeah, thanks. I appreciate it.” "Of course. Now, moving on..." she trailed into the mission’s file. Despite her earlier warning, I can't help but daydream again. Usually, I'd have Niran help, but she's seemed so over-worked lately that I let her go back home to relax for a few days. It's weird how all these missions and paperwork came to me for help the moment she's gone... There were at least five that asked for my help that weekend, and I was having trouble deciding which case to take. Each of them seemed innocent enough, except that one guy who kept glaring at me. Or maybe that's just how his eyes were. In all those manga Niran read, there was always one poor guy that was born with glarey eyes, and everyone is terrified of him, but then he meets a girl that sees past that, which allows him to open up to his emotions and fall in love with her and--! ....but it's not like I read that stuff, anyway... "Ah, this one is just too big! I wouldn't be able to take it!" My eyes went wide and a vivid mental image flooded my mind. Again, I tuned in at the wrong time. I've been spending too much time with Niran... "I--uh--well..." I stammered with a nervous laugh. She didn't look too mad, but I was sure that she'd get upset if I asked her to repeat all that. "Yeah, I think I'll skip that one." Umeko didn't bother giving it a second thought and moved onto the next one. "Next is Mr. Otto Mobell. He was arrested a few days ago at 7 PM..." she again went into the details. A few nights before that, Niran invited Mitsuru and me over to her house to watch movies. When Suzuki asked why she wasn't invited, Mitsuru told her it was because the movie was only for 'adults'. Of course, I thought she was being a pervert and told her we weren't coming anymore. But no, it was actually a long, dramatic flick. It wasn't so bad, actually a little interesting, but Niran kept ruining it with stupid remarks like "that's what she said" and "in bed". Halfway through, I wanted to leave. Mitsuru, however, was really into the movie and asked me to ignore her. So we stayed. All night. And she kept cracking jokes. All. Night. "So he ended up taking it from behind." I visibly stiffened at that. Okay, Niran or no Niran, that sounded downright perverted... "Come again?" I asked, and kicked myself when I found more perversion in the word 'come'. This time, Umeko wasn't so oblivious and rolled her eyes. "The bullets. He was shot from behind, instead. Have you been paying attention? I do hope you haven't been thinking of those sorts of things all this time..." she lectured. "No, no, no--well, kinda--but that's only because Niran--!" I stumbled over words. She put up a hand to silence me. "I don't want to hear it. Let's move on. We can get back to this one later," Umeko continued. "Alright. Sorry," I apologized with a sheepish grin. She went on. Still, Niran wasn't all to blame. The same night we went to her place, I had one of those dreams. That wasn't too unusual, of course. But...I didn't expect to have one of Umeko, of all people. Sometimes those things happen just because of what you eat; that's what I heard, anyway. This one, however, was so vivid and real, I almost missed the thought of her presence when I woke up. It was hard to accept her offer to help that day. How would it feel to be all alone with her after a dream like that? Would I slip up, say something stupid, and lose her friendship forever? I admit, it was a strange train of thought, but I was just so confused... I just hated how I sounded like some stupid hormonal kid. "Souzou, I think I need you." There was something I missed. There had to be. "Umeko--" I tried. But she wasn't done. "Please, Souzou. I'm begging you," She went on. I could feel my face burning. "I understand that I may be overstepping my boundaries, but I simply cannot take no for an answer now. You're truly the only one that can help me with this issue. Don't misunderstand; I will repay you in full for your cooperation. If you don't believe me, I'm more than willing to get on my knees, suck up my pride, and--" "T-That's not necessary!" I almost screeched. My voice was unnaturally hoarse. I tried to clear my throat. She shook her head. "No, it is. You must not understand; I need you quite badly right now," Umeko insisted. Her face was just so flushed from embarrassment, I couldn't help but notice myself growing uncomfortable... "If you can't help me, I'm afraid I may have to resort to asking Benkei, and God knows how he'd do..." I just couldn't believe what I was hearing. "W-W-Well I don't know, you should give him a chance..." I suggested. My words were rushed, and I think she noticed. Umeko smiled a little, although she looked disappointed. "That's true. I was hoping you would agree to this, however. You probably have much more experience in this field," she mused. "Ah well that’s true but…..." I replied quickly. "I apologize. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," Umeko said, sad smile still plastered to her face. I shook my head. "It's fine," I muttered. With that, she continued through the files, as if nothing had happened. Shrinking back into my chair, I tried to avoid eye contact. That was pretty easy, considering how many times she looks away during a normal conversation. Umeko doesn't really look at a person unless she's angry. It must be something he got from living with such a strict family. Umeko’s smiles were always something I looked forward too instead of usual bright, wide grins, they're calm and caring. Whenever she looks at you--which, if she does, is a lucky break for you—Umeko actually looks at you, looks right at you, like you actually matter. "...Souzou, you're staring." "I'll do it!" She blinked at me in confusion before realizing what I was talking about. Once she did, she blushed, the same red hue as before. "W-Souzou...are you sure?" Umeko questioned. I pulled an unsteady grin. "Yeah!" I assured her. Then, a little unsurely, I flushed and added, "But I may not be as good as you think I am..." Umeko shook her head. "I'm sure you are. Miss Niran has told me so," she persisted. "Niran said what?!" I echoed. "I-I mean, how would she know that?!" The blank look on her face didn't change. "Of course she would know. She is a woman, after all. They know these things," Umeko replied calmly. "B-B-But why would she talk about something like that with you...?!" I breathed. This was crazy. Niran was crazy. Umeko was crazy. *I* was crazy! "Ah, well, Miss Fright mentioned Grace to Miss Niran, so it came from Miss Niran to Miss Fright to me," Umeko explained. ....what. Oh. Wait. I remember: "Hmm, that's quite the coincidence. Miss Fright fell ill around the same time. She's been out for quite a while. I'm beginning to worry about her daughter. Grace is a very delicate child; I really do not understand why she was entrusted to me..." Her daughter. She was talking about her colleague’s daughter... ... "Souzou, where are you going?" "The bathroom. Don't expect me back soon." -- BRB SUICIDE. |

Psh...But there's very little of Umeko and Souzou. The story focuses on the canon characters. Those two serve as ...Now I'm remembering why I didn't post this fanfic. It's worse than a soap opera. *shot* As for drabbles, please share? If it's not a problem or an annoyance, that is. |

XD Well, that's basically all that involves Umeko and Souzou. The rest is about Rukia and Grimmjow being stupid The storyline was a train wreck, unfortunately. It would need heavy revising to get rid of the convoluted plot and the melodrama. But yaaay for drabbles~ Edited by Tenebrion, Jun 21 2009, 10:07 PM.
