I have decided to make a character, but he's most certainly not going to be a good guy. I'm borrowing him from a table top game called Warhammer 40K. There are no good guys in that game, only varying levels of ridiculous, sometimes even hilariously so, evil. This guy suits my needs, because I'd only be able to roleplay every now and then and he'd only be able to show up every now and then. Which means I'll hardly ever use him, but what the hell. It's all in fun. IN THE DARK FUTURE OF THE FORTY FIRST MILLENIUM, THERE IS ONLY WAR. Name: Jarlan Amadeus Age: 136 Race: Human. Genetically augmented however in order to become an Adeptus Astartes, a Space Marine. A list of the genetic enhancements can be seen here: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Creation_of_a_Space_Marine Height: 7'8 feet out of armor. 8'10 in armor. Gender: Male Occupation: A Space Marine for the Imperium of Man, in the name of the great Emperor on the Golden Throne. Status: The closest thing you could call him would be lawful evil, though the law he follows is not that of this time. Weapon/Skills: Powered Armor enhances his already above human abilities and provides protection against cutting or piercing objects. It is engraved with runes blessed by techpriests against the psychic and magical machinations of the Warp, granting him a little protection. How much this guards from sorcery not of the Warp is anyone's guess. He has limited protection from blunt force trauma, but he will still feel impact. A strike of sufficient magnitude would crush the armor and kill him. He wields a standard issue bolt gun, as well as a chain sword. He is skilled in the usage of both. Family/Pets: He has no need of these things, for they would only distract him in his duty to the Imperium and the Emperor! Appearance: ![]() Personality: He is, in simplest terms, a fanatic and a sociopath. He has been indoctrinated from his earliest years that the Emperor is the god of mankind and that His creation, the Imperium of Man, is the most holy thing to ever exist. He has a great prejudice and hatred for heretics (those who turn away from the Emperor), the mutant (those whose D.N.A have altered through thousands of years), and the forces of Chaos (Daemons and mortal worshipers). He will fight these to his last breath, and anything getting in his way will at best get a huge metal fist to the face. At worst they will get cut in half by his chainsword. Biography: He is a member of the Ultramarine Chapter of Adeptus Astartes. His squad encountered a Chaos incursion where chaos worshipers had managed to summon a powerful Daemon. The Daemon was attempting to bring the planet partially into the Warp, where the Chaos Gods and Daemons live, so that they could claim the planet. Amadeus' captain fell fighting the Daemon. In a last ditch effort, Amadeus attacked the wounded Daemon by surprise and cut off its head. This prevented the planet from being drawn into the Warp, but the energy gathered still exploded violently. Since Amadeus was at the center, he was drawn into the Warp and deposited somewhere else. In a different time and place. Lovelife: As a servant of the Emperor of Holy Terra and the Imperium, he has no time for silly romance. FOR IT WOULD ONLY DISTRACT HIM FROM PURGING THE FILTH OF THE XENO AND THE DAEMONIC!!! Edited by Winged Knight, Dec 14 2009, 04:03 AM.

Amadeus: YOU DARE LAUGH AT ONE OF THE EMPEROR'S CHOSEN!? Me: The armor is more for function than form. Glad you got some amusement out of it, but I wasn't the one who designed it. |

hmm, Judging from the webpage, you'd think the scientists who would do this sorta thing would be asked to design some sort of failsafe if some of these supersoldiers somehow manage to go Awol, but after looking over all of the Organs and implants it seems pretty solid. Wonder if there were ever complications when they had to perform surgery with all of that healing stuff they had implanted? |

Funny you should mention that, since about half of them did go AWOL, defected to Chaos, and have been a pain in the people of the galaxy's collective ass ever since. It's also the reason why the Emperor had to go on life support ten thousand years before present Warhammer time, and essentially why the Imperium changed from tough but fair to a horrible dystopia over the time the Emperor has been stuck on said life support. There're one thousand chapters of Space Marines, each with about one thousand members on average. There are roughly the same amount of Chaos Marines. They enjoy beating the crap out of each other. Actually, a number of those organs work together with other organs, so if one gets damaged beyond its ability to heal then the marine in question is in big trouble, as it would mean his body would literally be killing itself due to the imbalance. There's also the fact that a Marine will need to be treated with various drugs and chemicals throughout his life in order to ensure everything continues to work and to maintain stable metabolism. So Amadeus is kinda screwed if he can't find someone who knows all this stuff for his next check up in a few years. They're powerful, but their strength has the potential to kill them in a horribly painful fashion. Edited by Winged Knight, Jul 29 2009, 03:10 AM.

Just so you all can get a better idea of the setting that Amadeus came from. Warhmmer 40,000 is a tabletop game, but there are a ton of books out there based in its universe. A number of them are really rather good. This, to the best of my knowledge, is the text on the first page of every book. Kind of like the forward to set the tone. It is properly grim, to reflect the setting. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - It Is The 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the Emperor has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Earth. He is the Master of mankind by the will of the gods, and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible armies. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of Technology. He is the Carrion Lord of the Imperium for whom a thousand souls are sacrificed every day, so that he may never truly die. Yet Even In his deathless state, the Emperor continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty battlefleets cross the daemon-infested miasma of the Warp, the only route between distant stars, their way lit by the Astronomican, the psychic manifestation of the Emperor's will. Vast armies give battle in his name on uncounted worlds. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the Adeptus Astartes, the Space Marines, bio-engineered super-warriors. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Imperial Guard and countless planetary defence forces, the ever vigilant Inquisition and the tech-priests of the Adeptus Mechanicus to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from aliens, heretics, mutants - and worse. To Be A man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the cruelest and most bloody regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of progress and understanding, for in the grim dark future there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting gods. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - This is where he comes from. Thoughts? |

hmmm, that it pretty depressing, the fact there's no peace anywhere is almost unimaginable for me. Surely there's some rich dude (not the emperor) living it up in luxury somewhere? Perhaps I see why the heretics and people are coming from, they go to the gods to stop the fighting and end everything, and they just sit there laughing hysterically! It may be unlikely, but Amadeus will take a chill pill and settle down in the 21st century? XD hmm, It said in the wikipedia that the bolt gun is practically a religious symbol for Space Mariners. I'm wondering what would happen if somehow, it got damaged beyond repair? Edited by The Abominable Joe-man, Aug 14 2009, 01:17 AM.

War is going on in various parts of the galaxy all the time, and since the imperium spans the galaxy it's at war all the time too. Hell, Ork culture revolves around it. They pick fight with the Imperium for fun. Some planets have peace for hundreds of years and then suddenly erupt in violence. Basically, no place in the galaxy is safe from war. It can go anywhere at any time. People are labeled heretics by the Imperium when they turn away from the Imperial Religion, which is worshipping the Emperor, (Which is funny since before he was put on life support and became immobile and silent for thousands of years he told them not to worship him. Several thousand years can really warp a message.) to instead worshipping one of the four chaos gods. More on them here: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Gods_of_Chaos Course, a person could also be labeled a heretic for siding with an alien power instead of being with the Imperium, but that's a different flavor of heresy. Very rarely you get someone who worships Chaos Undivided instead of just one god. But they're fewer than those who just worship one. The various gods are rivals, so the forces of Chaos fight each other as much as they fight all the other forces in the galaxy, which is good for the rest of them. A Black Crusade, which is when the forces of Chaos set their differences aside, is a truly massive thing. So big that the Imperium, which hates aliens almost as much as it hates the forces of Chaos, will be willing to team up with the Eldar and/or the Tau. Which are pretty much the only two species that would be even close to open to the idea of a team up. Amadeus is probably not gonna chill. Sorry. He will, however, have to adapt. Like I said in the discussion, he can't just go shooting people for not knowing about the Emperor. The 21st century is many centuries before he revealed himself. He's going to try and work behind the scenes to pave the way and make the Emperor's work easier. He's gonna have to be a little more... subtle... than what he's used to being. Course, that's like saying a race car is more subtle than a speeding train. If his Bolter was damaged beyond repair he'd be pretty upset. After all, it was custom made for him. But the metals of the future are freaking tough. It'd take something pretty heavy duty. Edited by Winged Knight, Aug 18 2009, 11:25 AM.
