That was great! It's interesting to steal a glimpse into Umeko's past~ That and it's interesting to see what kind of a person Benkei is. |

In that case, I'll have to write a bunch of Umemko-centric fics, plus one on Souzou's past to balance it out...and show Umeko some love. <3 |

Part II “May I help you?” Umeko frowned slightly at the lean, taller man before her. She clutched her paperwork to her chest protectively before looking to the side slightly, catching a much larger man’s gaze as it narrowed dangerously. She panicked slightly before moving her feet pass the other Captain while holding her papers close. Souzou blinked as Umeko rushed pass him before he could even properly introduce himself and turned around confusedly to her retreating form. “Captain Takechi! Wait!” he called out, waving his arm in the air while attempting to do charming jog. Umeko’s expression failed to change except to only scowl more. Whispering lowly she grabbed his arm and pulled it down to his side in a sharp motion so that it almost slapped his waist. He winced slightly at the contact but couldn’t help but concentrate on Umeko’s reddening cheeks. “Why do you insist on doing such embarrassing things in public?!” she muttered lowly pulling back some of her hair as a nervous twitch, “Ah- now what do you want, can’t you tell I’m busy?” Souzou smirked slightly, endeared at Umeko’s prudish and old-fashioned way of thinking before opening his arms widely. A habit of endearment he picked up from many house with Niran while grinning broadly. “I’m here to introduce myself, of course,” Souzou smirked and folded his arms, “I am Captain Arakaki Souzou, we’ll be working together so I thought it only-,” Umeko looked off to the side nervously before bowing lowly then suddenly jumped up with a frantic expression on her features. “Yes, yes. I am Takechi Umeko, Captain of the Fifth Division- nice to meet you and please take care of me,” she turned around quickly, “Now if you don’t mind I’m busy!” Souzou frowned slightly, his pride chipped a bit but he could only sigh and shrug his shoulders. He wasn’t the type to easily give up, after all. As he turned, he caught sight of a large, muscular man leaning up against the wall under the shade of the tree- his expression seeming to be one of pure detestation for Souzou. Souzou knew how to calm these situations and misunderstands- he merely smiled and gave him a salute wave along with a look that simply said, ‘Just try me, asshole’ and walked away. Situation dealt with. -- Umeko stumbled slightly as she left the building; a large arm grabbed her shoulder and held her up before she could fall entirely. She looked back, strangely expecting a brightly smiling Captain, to be met with dark eyes and a stern look. She smiled kindly before bowing slightly to Benkei as she stabilized herself. He held an umbrella in his hand which he promptly handed to her as she felt a slight drizzle hit her face. “I.. haven’t seen you in a while, and I got the news,” he smiled, “C-Congratulations on your Captainship.” Umeko lowered her head uncomfortably while holding the umbrella in her hand. “I.. Thank you, Benkei-san,” she smiled up to him before nodding, “I am most pleased with myself even in spite of my injury.” Benkei smiled at her small talk before he gripped onto her wrist. Umeko winced at his strength as he held it tightly and stared at her sharply. “About that Captain…,” he muttered dangerously. Umeko began to panic slightly at Benkei’s tone, entirely full of hate and anger. “Which one?” she whispered quietly, cringing backwards. “The skinny one, with the weird hair?” “Captain Arakaki?” She looked at him curiously, frowning slightly at what he had been insinuating. Her dark eyes narrowed curiously as she stopped cringing, finding her fire once more and challenging his gaze. “Yes, that’s the one,” Benkei spat looking away, “Don’t you listen to his advances.” “Advances?” she asked, this time actually unsure. Benkei grabbed her shoulders and gripped them tightly, his fingers digging into her skin as she winced at the rough contact. She almost began to reach for her blade instinctively while biting her bottom lip to restrain herself. “You need to understand that as my property-!,” he began, his voice raising. Umeko finally snapped with that line, wrenching away from his grip and raising her hand to deliver a full slap across his face. Her expression was dangerous as her cheeks were tinged with red with her lips parted and her shoulders heaving with rage. “I needn’t understand anything, Benkei-san,” she replied icily, “I am not your wife yet.” Benkei stepped back slightly, feeling the pain on his cheek begin to simmer from the harsh blow. “Umeko…Why…You,” he muttered incredulously, shocked at the usually soft-spoken girl’s actions. Umeko immediately caught herself at Benkei’s suddenly low and hurt tone, putting her hands to her lips before bowing lowly. “…I’m sorry, Benkei-san. I am most tired,” she tried to justify it, pulling at the front of her gi, “I’ve been slightly overworked with all this, I lost my head for a minute.” She tried to reach her hand to his shoulder to comfort it, yet it fell short and she wrapped that hand around her neck and began to feel the cool flesh. “Please forgive me for striking you,” she looked at him apologetically, he couldn’t resist her expression when it was so vulnerable and tamed. “…Anything, for you Umeko,” he smiled while hugging her close, “I’ll wait for as long as you need me too.” Umeko exhaled at he accepted her apology. She knew that breaking ties with Benkei’s family would mean that her entire family estate would belong to him and she would lose all power of her family heirlooms. She couldn’t bare the idea of parting with her brother’s things and the idea was enough to strangle any protest she might mentally have against keeping Benkei on such a leash. She could scream and him and strike him as much as she needed to- and he would still come back like a dog with his tail between his legs asking for acceptance. She was almost disgusted with herself. Almost. Besides, the fool was too in love with her to notice. -- “Ah, Maya! We can talk it over!” Souzou cried, as the dark haired girl threw another shoe at his head. “That was low! I mean! Sure, cheat on me but with my sister!?” she cried, opening the door and throwing the Captain out, “What kind of girl do you think I AM?!” Souzou shrugged with a grin. “A type willing to join in?” he answered cheekily. Only to be met with a sake bottle throw straight at his face and a door slamming on his fallen figure. Today just didn’t seem to be his day as he stood up and the droplets of water began to increase into large amounts of rain and people were already running inside of their homes or businesses. He didn’t bother, the closest place he could go was the bar and Suzuki probably already heard the whole thing and was waiting for his sorry ass. “Ah, Captain Arakaki,” he heard a meek voice behind him with a large umbrella over her head, “You’ll catch a cold if you’re in the rain…” Souzou smirked knowingly. “Then why don’t you help me out, eh?” |
