Earth's New Champion

Aiden had been in the after life for quite a while now. Perhaps he was beginning to get used to the peace and serenity the setting and lifestyle tended to bring to excuse his presence there. He had made plans to have broken out by now but lately he wasn’t sure just what to do with himself. Was he ready to leave? Did he have everything he needed to prepare him for life on the outside again where he would no doubt have to face an untold amount of strife? And what of Reina lately? He wasn’t sure just what she had been doing with her free time. The home the two of them shared while in the after life had been vacant for quite a while. He would return after a day’s worth of activities to find it empty and untouched as he had left it. She had not returned in some time and the thought troubled him. With how things had changed lately there was a wonder just what was on her mind and it worried him even more that she was not sharing it with him. Her right, of course. Still, it left an uneasy feeling in the human’s gut. Aiden had steeled himself for what he would have to do then. If Reina was not going to see him then he would have no choice but to leave the after life without her. He was not keen of the idea but in the end he had no other choice. After all, he had things to do. There were people he needed to see, individuals he needed to track down, and a particular android that needed silencing. Aiden had also intended to do what he could to find out the cause behind the destruction of Planet Vegeta as well. An entire race wiped out in such a way was ghastly and had the signature of Rosencrantz written all over it. However he was not about to jump to conclusions on the matter. Instead he would try to find the source of the destruction and - if his dragon radar was willing - possibly track down the dragon balls and hope to squeeze out a miracle to bring the planet back. At least, that was initially his plan. Then another planet was destroyed. This time it was the changeling home world of Frieza #79. The remaining Saiyan forces that had survived the destruction of Vegeta had grouped there in an effort to give the changelings they despised one final battle before going out. There was an untold number of changelings located there as well. The Majins, thanks partly to Aiden and his Immortal’s transportation, were free of that world however. Thousands more other races were also on site when the entire planet was destroyed. They had to be linked. It was as if someone was purposefully destroying the planets in order to silence the warring factions. It had worked, of course. The war was over once Frieza #79 was gone. The only remaining faction in the war - if you could even consider them a participant - were the Majins and they wanted nothing to do with it. As such, Aiden was set on trying to find out who was behind the acts. But before even a full day in heaven could pass while he mused over the latest news an even more startling event occurred. Saiyans and changelings both from all over the after life vanished as their life force and planet was completely restored. Both Vegeta and Frieza #79 were back to the state they were as if they had never been destroyed at all. The after life was quite a buzz with excitement. A lot of gossip was being tossed around as to what may have happened. Aiden could only guess at what King Yema must be going through with this sudden event. Aiden was sure the orge king was none too pleased when someone started to manipulate the after life in such a way. A lot of people were still wondering just how it had happened. Aiden knew. The Dragonballs. Someone had collected all seven of them and unlocked their full potential to restore the planets back to the way they were. There was only one person capable of such a thing - if what Foon had said was correct - and that was the last surviving member of the Dragon Clan. Aiden had seen him once, briefly. When Foon and him were fighting he caught a glimpse of a green figure aiding him in the fight. It didn’t take long for him to guess at the individual’s identity. So there was another out there, a hero seeking to right the wrongs of the universe. Perhaps what Prototype 10 had wished - a group of individuals all aligned toward protecting, policing, and saving the universe as a whole was not entirely impossible. The recent events that transpired seemed to prove this fact to Aiden above all else. So it was that the human had a new found confidence in his step. He felt determined and motivated. He felt, for the first time since his departure from the living realm, a small ray of hope cutting through the veil of darkness that had been his life prior. There was good in the world and it was willing to prove itself. Aiden was not alone in his actions. There were others and they were finally stepping forward to do something. With a fierce and determined look on his face Aiden moved toward his next - and perhaps last - destination. The home of the Z Fighters where resident warriors such as Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan resided. He would seek out the last of what he needed from them before he made plans for his escape. In due time he would be free of this life in the after and ready to take a whole new spin on living. Aiden was juiced and ready for a rematch. This time around? The universe didn’t stand a chance. [ Word Count: 1,009 ] |

Earth's New Champion

“Hello?” came the human’s voice as he peered his head into that abode. His arm had risen so that his hand could wrap gently against the door frame with which he stood. He got no reply and decided to just make himself at home for the moment. Surely he was bound to run into someone at some point if he nosed around long enough. Aiden wasn’t sure just whose place he had entered, though. All of the Z Fighters lived next to one another and kept pretty close but there was no way for the haokiru fighter to know just whose house was whose. Coming to glance around the place his eyes fell upon a magazine sitting on a coffee table in what he guessed was a sitting room. The cover of the magazine showed a cerulean haired cutie with a fierce look in her eyes. The caption, ‘Earths’ Smartest Woman Does It Again!” was written in bold letters across the bottom of it along with the woman’s name. Bulma Briefs. Reaching down to lift the magazine up he looked at it a moment and smiled. “Hm. So this must be Bulma and Vegeta’s place then,” the human remarked. Another voice, however, caught him off guard. “Actually it’s mine and my wife’s,” the male voice replied. Aiden spun on the spot and dropped the magazine from his hand in surprise. Standing in the hallway to the sitting room was an elderly man - not as old looking as Master Roshi but definitely older in age - with graying hair and a very prominent mustache. A black cat sat upon his shoulder and an unlit cigarette was held between his lips just waiting for a puff. Aiden was almost positive he had seen the man’s face before. Why is it that people in the after life choose to remain old in appearance when in all reality you’re whatever age you wish to be? Did your subconscious mind just choose for you to look old or did it pick the age you were when you passed? Aiden wasn’t sure but spending eternity as an old man would more or less suck. “Sorry, I knocked and no one answered. You said this is… your place? Who are you?” Aiden asked. “Why, I’m surprised you don’t recognize the creator of the Capsule Corporation when you see him my boy,” the man replied. “My name is Briefs, Dr. Briefs. Are you looking for my daughter, Bulma, by any chance?” the man followed. Aiden rose his arm and placed his hand behind his head, scratching idly. “Actually, I was looking for some one in particular. Goes by the name of Goku. You see I’ve always wanted to meet him and in the entire time I’ve been in heaven I haven’t had the chance.” “Well, no problems there, son. You’ve got eternity to do that.” He chuckled before his face beamed with his large grin. It was contagious. The man was charismatic and it was clear to see how he could build such a large company as Capsule Corporation. “Well, that’s the thing. I don’t… plan to stay around for much longer. There’s things I need to accomplish. Things I need to set right. It wasn’t my time yet. I was cheated out of life by someone else who cheated their way out of death.” “Really? Fascinating. Well, well. I suppose I ought to wish you good luck on your return then. King Yema can be quite a tricky one to get by. Unless you’ve got another ticket out of here, that is. Anyway, I believe Goku was running around doing some errands. Though for the life of me I don’t know what it’s all about. My daughter, Bulma, has been furious at me for forgetting something. The problem is… I can’t quite remember what it was!” Aiden almost felt bad for the guy. He was a genius in his own right but at the same time his mind only seemed to focus on one thing. His work. Aiden could see that Dr. Briefs’ family life probably suffered often because of it. Aiden wasn’t entire sure he wanted to get involved. Yet somehow he knew that without a shadow of a doubt he would soon-- “If you could, can you find out why she’s so upset?” -- be dragged into it. “Uh, sure thing pops.” “Thank you. As for your help, here. Take this.” Dr. Briefs reached into that white lab coat he was wearing and produced a capsule much like the one Aiden already owned. Handing it off to the lad he nodded his head earnestly. Aiden took the capsule and slipped it into his pocket glad to have yet another method of keeping space. “I’ll be back shortly.” With a wave of his hand Aiden left the Briefs’ abode before making his way to the next house over. Wrapping on the door he could hear a bunch of loud music playing from within. The music was promptly shut off after a third - very loud - knock was issued. Yamcha answered the door. “Oh, hey Aiden! What’s up?” “Uh, look. This might sound kind of weird but… why exactly is Bulma mad at her father? What’s going on with the two of them?” “Bulma, huh? She’s mad at everyone at some point. It’s in her nature. She’s a bitchy one, that girl. Just try dating here. Yikes. You’d have to be a Saiyan just to stand a chance.” “You’re… not helping.” “Oh, right, right. Lets see… well, maybe he got her something really lame for her birthday?” Yamcha added while his mind was caught up in thought. His hand was placed to his chin as he pondered this idea. “Birthday? It’s Bulma’s birthday?” “Yeah, today actually. Speaking of, I’ve got to get a few things ready. We’re having a party for her and everything. You ought to tag along.” “Thanks, I’ll do that. But first, I’ve got to make a pit stop.” Aiden wasted no time in heading over to the Briefs’ and filling in the elder doctor just what it was he had forgotten. The man felt ashamed and quickly raced out to pick up a gift for his daughter. Aiden was left pondering just what kind of family these people had here. Well, whatever. That aside he continued on his way. [ Word Count: 1,058 ] |
