“Come on, keep focusing. Push that energy outward in all directions. Use your aura… that’s it, keep going,” the Half Saiyan with lavender hair said as his power levels continued to rise. Trunks Briefs was his name and he was, for the moment, Aiden’s latest choice in teacher. The technique in question? On of the strongest Trunks had to offer that did not involve a blade. At the moment the Half Saiyan had his hands clenched tight and his eyes set firmly on the human fighter. His aura was swirling around him in a massive display of blue hue and only continuing to grow larger.

Aiden was doing his best to keep up with Trunks but it was no easy task. After all, Trunks was a Half Saiyan of some renown. His skills in combat were top notch and he had - quite literally - centuries to hone them to peak levels. On top of this he was also a direct descent of the man who calls himself the Prince of the Saiyans. He was no longer a prince, naturally. There was a new King and new Prince that were ruling Planet Vegeta up until its destruction but the title was no firmer held with any other than with Trunks’ father, Vegeta.

Aiden closed his eyes and was doing his best to follow Trunks’ instructions. They were not as easy as he had hoped. It was evident that Trunks did not have a lot of pupils in his years and was clearly a loner in the type of martial artist. So his directions to Aiden were not well received. It was also a bit harder for him to focus on the things Trunks was having him work on - as if he lacked a form of training elsewhere that would better help him grasp the concept.

“Look, Aiden. You have to feel everything around you. The life force of the grass. The trees. The people. Everything. And draw that into your own aura.” Trunks said calmly. He shut those blue eyes and his aura seemed to spread even wider until its blue essence touched upon Aiden’s golden one and nearly threatened to blow him off his feet. Gritting his teeth, Aiden planted his feet and pushed back against it as if trying to win an arm wrestling contest. That was his mistake of course. To consider the power struggle to be a physical one. It was all concentration that won this one.

In a flash, Aiden was blown back and landed with a rough thud to the ground. He winced from the impact and lay there for a moment while struggling to figure out what he was missing. All of that power that Trunks had been growing slowly seemed to shrink downard into a point directly above his head before firing upward in a compounded, single wave that soon disappeared from sight. That was the technique he was trying to harness. Drawing all of his power into one point in order to release it in one single, solitary beam. But he just couldn’t get the hang of it.

“Listen, Aiden, if you want to learn my Heat Dome Attack you’re going to have to try a bit harder. You’ve got the strength easily and you could probably go toe to toe with even a Super Saiyan with the amount of power you’ve mastered but you’re lacking the concentration that comes from a strong and steady control. Your emotions. Focus in on them and that’s how you’re going to keep your strength centered and unwavering. Take control of your emotions. All doubts and fears put aside. Focus. Like the blade of a knife. Straight. True. Pure.”

Panting a bit from the exercise Aiden slowly placed a hand beneath him and pushed himself to a sitting position with his eyes squinting up at Trunks. An arm rose to block the sun from his face while he saw the image of Trunks fully. His power. His strength. His control. It was something Aiden desperately needed. His anger would often get the best of him in combat and given the unique nature of his body’s power increases - adrenaline control - he really needed to reign in his own emotions to prevent himself from over extending or exhausting himself early in a fight. Trunks would be the key.

“Alright, lets try again,” Aiden said before rising to a full standing position. Spreading his feet outward so that he fell into a horse stance he closed his eyes and lay one arm outward with his palm facing out and fingers up. His other was set at his side with his palm facing upward and fingers out. Slowly he brought one arm back to match the other before the other arm moved out to mimic the first. Focusing on his inner ki he let this process continue back and forth while keeping control of his breathing techniques.

“Good, good.” Trunks remarked. Aiden’s aura began to swell outward in its usual golden hue before swirling around the ground between the two and expanding even more. It did not match the level of intensity that Trunks’ had before, however. Sweat dotted at Aiden’s brow and his muscles began to feel heavy while he kept pushing himself more.

“Alright, stop right there. Don’t force it. Pull in the energy from the life around you. That’s where you’ll find your strength. Imagine you were trying to gather energy in order to form a Genki Dama - a Spirit Bomb.”

That was all well and good except Aiden hadn’t a clue as to how to go about doing that. He had never practiced a technique like that. Still, he did the best he could. Trying to draw forth energy from other things around him that was not his own felt like stealing in a way. He was not taking the base principle of demand and acceptance and before he knew it he lost the control. His aura waned and then faded from its brilliant, golden intensity he was beginning to form.

“Alright, not bad. Lets try some more…”

Once more his energy swelled outward from his body. His attire rippled from the force of it and his concentration did its best to keep focused. The sweat that ran down his face was clear evidence of the amount of work he was putting into his actions. Keeping his calm and trying to focus that aura into a weapon he let it build around him and grow again and again. More and more he put forth the energy he held within. Finally, he focused on drawing even more energy than he had to give by channeling it from his immediate surroundings.

This was where Aiden always got stuck.

“Concentrate. Feel my energy flowing into yours. Feel the energy of everything around you. Take control of it. Harness it. But don’t abuse it. Be diligent in your focus with it and keep it pure. The purer the ki the more powerful the aura and more devastating the attack. Come on, focus Aiden. Focus!”

Having Trunks shouting at him the same basic principle over and over for the last two hours was starting to wear on the man’s patience. There was only so many times he could stand to accept the failure of inability before he was bound to snap. Doing his best to keep his calm and finding his body reaching its limits Aiden once more lost control of the technique. It exploded outward harmlessly around him and all of his energy along with it.

He dropped to a knee now, using his left arm to brace himself. His chest rose and fell with each intake of breath as he continued to pant. His body felt heavy and his clothes were damp with sweat. They had been at it for a while now and he was still no closer to getting the correct method of control down just yet. Aiden, for the life of him, could not figure out just what it was he was missing. But the technique of Trunks was too good to pass up. He swore he would learn it before he left this place, no matter what it took.

Trunks was sitting upon a boulder not far from Aiden’s position with his feet pulled up in an Indian Stance. The sword of his was lain across his lap. Both of his hands were at his sides and he was busy watching Aiden’s progress. His voice, sharp and crisp, broke through the silence that fell after Aiden’s latest attempt.

“You’re not trying hard enough, Aiden. This isn’t exactly an easy technique you know. In fact, I didn’t even make it myself. I was shown this technique by my future self. It was his specialty in combat that had created it. And he lived battle his entire life. So it’s not a walk in the park to get a hold of. You have to give it your all.”

“I am!” Aiden shouted, still panting. Reaching up to undo the buttons on that shirt he slipped it from his shoulders so that the tank he wore beneath was all that remained on his upper body. It too was coated in sweat. Tossing that attire aside he slowly pushed himself to his feet and stood to his full height. He stumbled a moment as the weight of his body got the best of him and once more he fell to his knees.

“What the heck am I missing?” he gasped. Obviously there was something about the technique that he just didn’t quite have done just yet. It was something that was crucial if he was going to be able to finally master the Heat Dome Attack. Just what was it?

“I swear, if I didn’t know any better I’d say you haven’t even managed to get down the aspect of gathering energy from your surroundings. Just how much time did you spend training under the northern galaxy quadrant’s King Kai anyway?” Trunks said, placing a hand to his chin.

Aiden rose his head up to look at Trunks with a somewhat annoyed expression. Slumping in his stance he shook his head and placed one hand to run through his hair before scratching idly at the back of his head. “I never had training with King Kai, Trunks. The only time I had spent at King Kai’s planet I had wound up taking orders unknowingly from Yajirobe. That jerk. He made me do all of his daily chores and tricked me into thinking he was King Kai. As for the real deal, I can’t say I’ve ever had the pleasure.”

The Half Saiyan rose an eyebrow at this news and then chuckled somewhat. Shaking his head he grasped that sword sheath in his fingers before tossing it into the air. Bracing himself against that boulder he pushed upward and leapt into the air before performing a forward dive roll. The strap of that sheath fell perfectly around his shoulder before Trunks landed with a soft thud against the ground on both feet. If Aiden didn’t know any better he’d say that Trunks had surely practiced that maneuver just to show it off. Of course, this was the Trunks that had fused together with Goku’s son Goten to form the loud mouth and obnoxious Gotenks. He had to remember that this Trunks was not the one from a long forgotten past where his heart and mind were hardened by the steel of androids. Something Aiden surely had in common lately.

“Well, that explains it then. You need to go seek out King Kai before we’ll be able to continue. If there’s anyone that can teach you how to gather energy from your surroundings it would be him. He’s the best at it after all. Without him a technique like the Spirit Bomb just wouldn’t be possible. Not to mention he’ll show you a method of increasing your body’s output ten fold with the kaio ken technique. Though, I’d stray away from that one. It’s not without its side effects.”

So this was promising. Aiden sought out Trunks for a lesson and instead is being sent on his way to King Kai. Well, at least he was making some progress. “Alright, fine. I’ll rest up and head out to his place first thing.”

When we last left our hero he was in the process of learning Trunks’ ultimate non weapon attack, the Heat Dome Attack that concentrated all of your energy as well as the energy of your surroundings into your aura before focusing it into a cannon that would be launched outward in order to completely over take your opponent. It was a technique that Aiden found a lot of interest in as its method of execution - harnessing all of your energy into a single point - was not unlike the Dragon Fist technique he had already mastered. With both of them under his belt he would be a strong force to be reckoned with.

The trick was getting the hang of the technique first. Sadly he was not as adept at it as he would have preferred. After several hours of practice on the same basic principles over and over he came to the conclusion - all thanks to Trunks - that he was lacking in the training necessary to completely the technique. There was apparently only one individual who might give him that needed training he so desperately sought out and that individual was the one and only King Kai of the Northern Galaxy Quadrant.

On his first arrival here in the after life Aiden had come across the man’s planet after venturing down Snake Way. It was not a friendly greeting he had made with the blue faced man either as when he arrived he had mistaken Yajirobe for the teacher and was left to let out his frustrations of his recent death by doing the fat man’s manual labor believing it was some sort of training he was receiving in the process.

The fact that Aiden was so easily duped had left a bit of a sore spot on the subject for the haokiru fighter and he had left King Kai’s planet annoyed and humiliated (though not before snatching up one of Yajirobe’s beans he had himself planted). Since that time he had yet to return to the small little planet for any training with the real deal. Today, however, he was change that error of his and make it right. After all, if this King Kai fellow really did have the ability to teach Aiden in the aspects of ki control he was lacking to form the Heat Dome Attack he so feverishly wished to master then so be it. He would do whatever was necessary to get the man’s approval and training.

After resting up from his training with the half saiyan Trunks Aiden had set off from heaven to venture once more over Snake Way. Thankfully, however, he was coming from the closer side to King Kai’s planet and not from the check out station so the travel would not take nearly as long. Still, it was a rather boring avenue to journey across and it left the human with little to occupy himself than his own mind.

He tried not to think about how things might be going back in the realm of the still living but he could not help himself. The more he fought the mental images and dreaded thoughts away the more real and life like they became. His biggest focus at the moment was on the destruction of Reina’s home world, Planet Vegeta. How something like that could have been allowed when someone like King Vegeta - rumored to be a legendary Super Saiyan even - was around he did not know. But with any luck he would find a way to make everything right again. For Reina’s sake if no one else’s.

The scene on planet Frieza #79 was most likely just as bad. The Saiyan task force that had been sent out to conquer the planet were off world when Planet Vegeta met its sad end so they were still very much alive. They were also most likely very angry at the destruction of their home world and their anger would only be fueled more by the changeling bloodshed they would spray across the surface world of Frieza #79. Innocents were likely to get caught up in the crossfire as well. All the while the Majins quietly bided their time on Yardrat and awaited the war coming to a close.

Aiden needed to get back and do a lot of things it would seem. Having agreed to helping the Majins in their struggle for survival he needed to try to find out the true cause of this racial war and put an end to it somehow. He also needed to recollect the missing dragon balls he had let out of his sight back on Earth after he had defeated Foon. With the Dragon Clan member of the Namekians no where close to being found - though he had his hunches he may have seen the man once back when Foon was attacking - and Planet Vegeta in ruins he imagined the dragon balls would be more important than ever. They could be the key he needed to bring back Vegeta and restore the Saiyan race.

Finally, there was the business with Rosencrantz to deal with. Ryuudo and Proto both wanted to form some sort of policing force in order to stop people like Rosencrantz from getting away with the actions he was credited for. Both of them were gone now, as well. They had left the after life to pursue these goals. Aiden would have to consider his return as well and how to get back soon. Too much was going on back in the land of the living to pass off. He had to finish whatever training he could here and make plans for his return. Reina would no doubt come with him, of course.

After such thoughts were left to wander through the human’s mind for a while he eventually realized that the time he had taken to travel to King Kai’s planet flew by faster than he had anticipated. Before him in all its restored glory (Goku did blow it up ages ago) was the planet he saw when he first arrived. He only hoped the blue man was still home.

Standing at the edge of that long, spiraling road he stepped to the ledge and then - with a hardy leap - launched himself toward the planet. Just like before the gravity would do its work once he was close enough and he came crashing down to the planet’s surface at an increased speed. His feet thudded to the ground leaving a bit of an indentation in its wake and immediately he was made aware of that increased gravity yet again. It was something he was accustomed to somewhat due to the gravitron training he had received already but it was still rough getting used to it each time he started off.

Turning toward the house that sat upon the planet he approached it as best as he could and wrapped his knuckle upon the door. A few moments later he received his answer. The door pulled back and standing there was a small, odd looking monkey. It squeaked and hooted at him before moving aside and the human could only assume that the monkey, as strange as it might actually sound, wanted him to enter. Naturally he did.

Once inside he looked around for the source of his appearance. Turning a corner he came into a room with a single couch, recliner, and television. The TV was currently broadcasting some television show that looked like it was Earth based. Not too much of a surprise, really. Earth had all the best entertainment aspects down and King Kai was a watcher of the Northern Quadrant of the Galaxy which is where Earth was presently located.

Sitting in the recliner was the blue skinned man Aiden had met on his first arrival to the after life. He waved to him a moment and waited for a response. When he got none he waved again. Still nothing. A bit annoyed now, Aiden stalked up to the chair and poked at the man’s arm to get his attention. “Hey, you!”

“What?! Can’t you see I’m watching my soaps here? Megan is about to leave Walter for Jason! No, Megan! Don’t do it!” King Kai cried at the television set. Aiden slumped a bit and let out a soft sigh.

“Look, King Kai, you know who I am right?” When he wasn’t getting a response Aiden reached for the remote and killed the power to the TV. That got the Kai’s attention surely.

“Hm… yes, yes. You’re that Aiden Endaril fellow. I watched you when you defeated Foon. Great work. My, you’re a strong one aren’t you?” Shooting up from that chair King Kai turned on the spot to peer at Aiden carefully. “Yes indeed. You have the work of a real hero in you, huh? So what can I do for you my boy?”

“Well, that’s just it. I need some help with your training. I heard you’re the best around - you’ve trained all the Z Fighters and you’re skill with ki gathering is second to none, right? I’d like to be your pupil for a while if you don’t mind.”

King Kai peered closer at Aiden until he was mere inches from his face. Then he pulled back and slipped both hands to fold behind his back. “Hm… we’ll see. You’ll have to pass some tests first before I can permit you to take any sort of training I have to offer. I’m sure that won’t be a problem for someone like you, right?”

Aiden wasn’t sure just what kinds of tests the Northern Kai had in mind but he would pass whatever he needed to in order to get the training he had requested. Merely point him in the right direction and he’d get the job done no problem.

“Alright, first off. You need to make me laugh.”

“… What?”

King Kai stared at Aiden with a straight and true expression. His face was emotionless and he seemed completely serious in his actions.

“I don’t think I follow.”

“You heard me, make me laugh. Tell me a joke. If you can tell a funny joke and get me to laugh then I’ll agree to move on to the next part of your test. Sounds simple, right?” In the background Aiden had heard the monkey make some noises. “Shut up, Bubbles!”

A joke, huh? Aiden wasn’t entirely sure just what kind of sense of humor the Northern Kai had. Was he into dirty jokes? Did cheesy humor tickle his funny bone? Or was it the more complicated jokes with a decent punch line and a witty pun that knocked him off his feet?

“Alright… let me see. Oh, I know!” Aiden smirked a bit before tossing out the first one he could think of. “Why did the rooster cross the road?”

King Kai squinted his eyes beneath those thick frames and thought a moment. Coming to no conclusion he simply asked, “Why?”

“Because it was duct taped to the chicken.”

“…”

Not a fan of that one, clearly. Aiden thought again, trying to pick out another joke that would get through to King Kai. Finally, he settled on another.

“What do you get when you cross a fish with an elephant?”

Again, King Kai produced no answer.

“Swimming trunks!”

He snirked a bit at that one before clamping his hand over his mouth and holding it in. Clearly Aiden was beginning to wear him down.

This next one he was inspired by Master Roshi. “Alright, alright. How do turtles keep in touch with one another?”

King Kai again seemed baffled and didn’t give a response.

“Shell phones!”

This time King Kai bust out laughing, his face turning a pleasant shade of red in the process. Even the monkey, Bubbles, was jumping up and down at the remark. Cheesy humor apparently wins out every time. Finally catching his breath and straightening up, King Kai recovered his composure and smiled. “Alright, you pass. Time for the next phase in your test.”

“Alright, just tell me what it is I have to do. If it’s as easy as the first part then it should be no problems.”

“Heh heh heh. Oh, it won’t be easy I can guarantee that.”

Aiden wasn’t sure he liked the way King Kai acted when he said that last remark. Really he just came here to get some training done. He wasn’t here to kill himself (again) working to the bone on some ridiculously remedial task that most likely involved crossing the deadly swamps, over the perilous mountains, and through the fire cavern to slay the two-headed dragon demon dog bobcat in order to retrieve the mystical saber of immortality and money.

“You’ll have to catch Bubbles.”

Aiden fell over from that remark. Quickly jumping upright he looked at King Kai with a raised eyebrow and assumed the man was completely nuts. “Follow me,” he said before turning and walking out of the house. The monkey, Bubbles, was quick to follow. Aiden wasn’t sure what to make of things but he decided not to question it and merely went along with it as well. Falling into step behind the duo he marched outside with King Kai and Bubbles.

Once outside he looked at both King Kai and the monkey a bit expectantly like something was supposed to happen to make him better understand just what it was he was meant to do for his task. King Kai said nothing however as he merely smirked and motioned toward Bubbles. The monkey nodded back at King Kai before a silence swept between them.

“Okay, so now what?”

“Are you ready? The task is simple. You have as long as you want. You just have to capture Bubbles. That’s all.” Bubbles jumped up and down and clapped his hands at this news.

“Yeah, sure. Sounds like a piece of cake.” Though for some reason Aiden thought there was some sort of catch. Sure the added weight of the increased gravity (because apparently a smaller planet in the after life meant more gravity and not less - makes total sense) made it a bit harder to move around and he’d be slightly sluggish but he didn’t think it would be all that difficult in the long run.

Bracing himself, Aiden readied to spring off after the monkey as soon as the test began. King Kai rose his hand up and then dropped it down dramatically. “Gooo! Go go go!”

Aiden sprinted toward Bubbles in quick speed and nearly closed his hands around the monkey’s waist before the creature suddenly darted away in a hurry. To his surprise Bubbles traveled all the way around the planet before Aiden even hit the ground from his near miss. Turning to look at Bubbles who now stood behind him, Aiden glared before getting up and sprinting after him again.

To his annoyance, Bubbles was just as quickly racing in the opposite direction. In fact, he ran backwards so that Aiden was forced to watch the monkey’s face the entire time. A grumble rose from his throat as he made a made dash forward and dove for the monkey yet again. This time, Bubbles leapt high and Aiden crashed straight into King Kai’s car. He blew through the side door and went right out the other end where he proceeded to lay for the moment.

“Okay… this sucks.”

“M-My car! Careful will you?!”

“Sorry, sorry.” Aiden remarked while rubbing at his head - the source of the impact. Rising to his feet Aiden kicked up some dirt before sprinting toward Bubbles again. This time his aura flared around him and he suddenly used bukujutsu to dash even faster. Just as he was about to grab Bubbles the monkey ducked low and Aiden flew right over him. Crashing into the window of King Kai’s house he flew through the kitchen, smashed into some pots on a counter top, then crashed through the dining room and back out another window.

Bukujutsu was used to halt him before he dashed back toward Bubbles again. “Haaaa!” he shouted before entering his high tension state and increasing his speed even more. This time when he went at Bubbles the monkey did not escape.

“Gotcha!!”

Aiden sat there with the caught Bubbles in his arms and proceeded to walk back over to King Kai. The Kai was a bit pissed by the fact his house was wrecked and was debating whether to even start the next aspect of the test.

“Alright, alright. Yes, good work. Next step, catch Gregory. And don’t wreck my stuff anymore!” A cricket suddenly appeared, most likely the Gregory of question. How he managed to just teleport in like that Aiden wasn’t sure. It couldn’t possibly be that he was just that fast, right?

“Alright, fine. Same test, different target. Lets get it over with.”

Gregory wasted no time in showing Aiden how slow he was in comparison. He zipped around the planet at speeds far surpassing that of Bubbles. Aiden was having trouble even spotting him, let along catching up. After about a good forty five minutes he was gasping for breath and finding his leg muscles sore and aching.

“I’m… starting to hate crickets…”

Aiden decided he needed another tactic to catch the guy. Every time Aiden came close Gregory would zip to the opposite side of the planet. He saw Aiden coming before the human could even get anywhere near the annoying bug. Thinking with his head he pondered What would Reina do? and hoped it would work.

Suddenly rising into the air, Aiden let his aura flare around him once more. Sensing out Gregory with his ki he suddenly dove straight down toward the ground and… punched right into the planet! He would not stop until he drove right through the center of the planet where the gravity was at its heaviest before shooting back out the other end and grabbing hold of Gregory in the process.

Walking back over to King Kai with Gregory under his arm, Aiden smirked knowingly. His method may not be the average thing one would do but it got the job done, right?

“You… you wrecked my planet! This’ll take months to patch up! Argh!!” King Kai didn’t appear to happy. Maybe he could take it out on Aiden once their training finally started?
