Day 1 of 5: 511 words I was taking a bit of a break from all of my studies and resting back at king Kai’s place. I figure where better to relax for a bit then with the people I had come to work with. I helped out with the chores, took turns cooking and in return I got to stay and with the exception of the occasional good natured prank, be at ease while I was there. I hadn’t had that dream in while, something I was very thankful for actually. I still don’t know what it means, but for the first time since I can remember, I feel like my life is moving in the direction it was meant to, if that makes any sense at all. Everything was going so well, until one afternoon king Kai’s face became that of horror. “It’s… it’s gone, all gone.” He started shaking almost uncontrollably as me and the other inhabitants drew closer around him. “I’ve been trying to figure out what has been cause such an incredible and sudden influx of souls to come through the checkpoint and I now I know. It is far worse than I imagined, I originally thought genocide, but it dwarfs even that. The entire planet of Vegeta has been destroyed and all its inhabitants along with it.” There was a horrific coupling of screaming and crying coming from the tiny planet’s inhabitants, many of whom had very close ties to the saiyan race. Several of them shouted out in anger, I’ll spare you the exact details, but blood was only one of things they called for at the moment. “You know you can’t do anything from here, especially you Goku, you’ve broken the rules a few times too many. It was usually overlooked because the reason was the love of you family, but you can’t go now. I’m afraid there is only one person here who has the ability to leave and investigate this matter further. Proto, would you step forward please? I know that you have no personal interest in the saiyans as a race, but I think that given your new found crusade against evil it would be in everyone’s best interests if you investigated this event for us. If you hurry you should be able to track down a few of the saiyans that managed to make it to this side of the checkpoint and get some info from them. I’ll do what I can to learn things from here and I’ll contact you if I find anything out.” He wasn’t far off actually, I had never really had the chance to study the saiyans, save for my time here in the afterlife, but still such an event has a rather sinister overtone to it, like an old comic book villain. “Very well king Kai, if this is what must be done then so be it, I’ll leave in the morning, but only on the condition that you don’t try and leave Goku. I don’t want to leave knowing you’ll be causing all kinds of problems up here.” |

Day 2 of 5: 516 words I took the night slowly, trying to savor every last moment of its benign peace before setting off on my journey tomorrow. I enjoyed my last meal here, mostly because I didn’t have to cook it and I even got to play another game of soccer with the guys. As the others slept I couldn’t help but stare off into the night sky, it still bothered me that there were no stars here, I will certainly enjoy gazing at them again in the evening. While thinking about how best to proceed with my new task, I felt a hand grasp my shoulder. “You know you shouldn’t worry so much, it’ll make you all fuzzy in the head and I hate that.” Of course Goku just couldn’t sleep on a night like tonight. “You look good in that, a little baggy, but still good. I’m just saying you could stand to put a little weight on is all. Trust me, I’ve been there. You don’t know what lies ahead or how you’re even gonna come close to handling it, let alone fixing things. I know it sounds strange, but one person really can make a huge difference; just about all of us have been the only thing standing between existence and the brink of nothing at least once, my fingers are crossed that this isn’t your turn to play that role. Then again, if it is, I’m not worried, I’m just gonna get ready for our re-match, that’s right, you officially owe me one now since I promised to behave!” Then he smiled and walked off into his home, followed by a loud yelling sound, something tells me he forgot to let his wife know he’d be waking her up in the middle of the night for no reason. “He’s right you know.” I caught Gohan sitting under a nearby tree. “Yea you could stand to gain a little weight.” The ever cheerful Krillin stepped out behind him. We sat there in the grass, laughing and enjoying the little time I had left to share with them until one last guest showed up. “Vegeta, what brings you here?” Gohan stood before this relatively short saiyan who looked more than a little angry. “What brings me here!? What do you think child? My entire planet and most of MY people have been killed and not only do none of them have the courage to come and tell me, but the one person who does find out decides to send that thing out there to investigate it? Listen well, as far as I’m concerned you’re nothing more than an overrated toaster, but it seems you’ll be trying to figure all this out. Well you had better do a grand job of it because if I see you back here again and you haven’t brought those responsible to their makers, there won’t be enough of you left to make a blender do you understand?” With that he just flew away, just like that. If I didn’t know any better I’d think king Yema read the book backwards with that one. |

Day 3 of 5: 534 words I left early that morning, I didn’t really want the long goodbyes or the long breakfast and I had some work to do. There was a lead I needed to track down, but first I had to find someone who was on planet Vegeta when the even occurred. I needed at least some vague clue as to what went on there in its last few moments if I was to form any reasonable hypothesis. As luck would have it, some of the fellow chefs that I’ve made friends with during my stint as a wandering cook had actually serviced a few of the newcomers. They informed me that there was a family living in a nearby house that might be able to help me; they had apparently been near the epicenter of the event. Turning my attention to them, it was a mere matter of minutes before I found them. The children didn’t see much but the father was working outside that day and noticed some sort of battle going on in the distance. “It all ended in this flash of light, this tiny orb of energy just kept growing and growing, it was like watching someone throw the sun at us. I couldn’t make out the figure holding that blast, but it was no attack I’ve ever seen a saiyan use.” Unfortunately his words did not bring as much light to the subject as I had hoped they would. It was comforting to know it wasn’t some inebriated fool that blew the planet out of space, but where was I to turn now? If that was all the information that someone at the epicenter had then surely none of the others would know much else. I’ll need time to analyze this turn of events. My records indicate that the planet known as Vegeta has been destroyed at least once before. After some research and a friendly call to king Kai for help, I found my next lead, the saiyan known as Bardock. He was the father of the legendary Goku and it was rumored that he had the ability to see the future, but even more valuable right now, he was allegedly killed during the first destruction of Vegeta. After explaining the situation to him, I rather expected him to burst into tears, but he claimed that he had already mourned weeks ago, before the incident had even happened. “I already know what you looking for so don’t bother asking, I won’t look into the future for you, that’s not what I do now. The pour soul you talked to before was right, the thing that destroyed the planet was indeed a massive energy attack. It’s called the death ball, it was Frieza’s favorite method of planetary annihilation and trust me, you haven’t known fear until you’ve stared one in the face. Look for someone who knows that technique, that’s the only help I can give you, now go.” I wanted to know more, if the rumors were true he could answer so many questions, but you didn’t have to be able to see the future to know he wanted to be left alone and so I didn’t push any further, not today. |

Day 4 of 5: 539 words Well I had my direction now, I only wish I had been able to learn more from Bardock before leaving, but it was his wish and I would honor it. Contacting king Kai, he agreed with me choice and warned me about king Yema, apparently he did not take kindly to people trying to sneak out of heaven and I would have to sneak past his desk in order to make me escape. Not only was his desk huge, but it had the power to warp the very fabric of the time/space continuum and it was made of a very fine material, mahogany. All this was beside the point of course, but it really is a very nice desk. Making my way to snake way was actually harder than I thought, with the ever changing topography around, it is easy to lose your bearings, but luckily for me, snake way is always above king Kai’s planet so I was able to use that a reference point to start my ascent upwards to the stony pathway. I started my race through the clouds, not needing sleep or really much rest is a huge boon to me, not to mention my speed has increased dramatically since my arrival. Stopping only to help repair a broken down truck, I was going to stop and aid someone named princess snake, but I think I offended her somehow. The second I mentioned I was an android her mood became sour and she asked me to leave, something about having indigestion. She certainly was a strange one, but I hope she feels better anyway. Making my way down the winding path, it seemed so much shorter this time around. Everything was going so smoothly until my body locked up on me. I couldn’t move and it was rather frightening, at least I think that’s the correct way to describe it. I started having the nightmare again, but I don’t know why, I was awake. I acknowledge that I was technically awake the other times as well, but I was in a deep state then and now I can’t even move. He was just laughing, standing there laughing at me, I don’t know what this power is inside me, but I swear I’m going figure out what the hell is going on inside me I’ll tear this vision out of myself circuit by microchip if I have to. I laid there for hours, the scene just repeating over and over again and when it finally stopped, night had already fallen and decided to rest, I couldn’t risk getting caught when I was so weak and confused. Surprisingly I met a group of saiyans making their way towards king Kai’s planet. They were more than a little perplexed by someone running the other way and since they seemed tired, I offered to help them out a little. They told me that they had been fighting when the planet was destroyed and hadn’t had a chance to rest in some time. I didn’t have much to offer them save for a good meal and the truth that at the end of snake way they would in fact be rewarded, but that was enough to get them running again. |

Day 5 of 5: 569 words, earth please :-) Bidding the eager new group of king Kai’s soon to be students a farewell, I returned to my own journey, hopeful that I could make it through the day without incident. I still hadn’t figured out how I was going to slip past king Yema yet, had this been a few days ago I would have used all the ruckus that a few billion saiyans can cause as my cover, but I hear Yema had cleared that ling up in a matter of hours so that window of opportunity has long since been closed. Barring another planet from exploding I doubt I’ll get so lucky. I was only a half mile or so away from the checkpoint or rather checkout in my case, when I noticed a figure waiting for me on the road, an all too familiar figure. Slowing to a casual walk beside him I spoke “Goku, you know you can’t come with me, you have no idea how much I wish you could, but you heard king Kai, it just isn’t allowed.” “Yeah I know, but you left so early I thought I could at least give you a proper send off and all.” “There is one thing you can do for me, if you don’t mind that is. I’ve been forming an alliance with some of the universes’ heroes, well the modern ones at least, like I mentioned before our match. Well my departure is going to be rather sudden and I haven’t had time to tell them so could you please give them these for me?” Handing him two sealed envelopes, one marked “Aiden” and the other “Reina” he looked a bit sad. “I’m sure I can find your friends for you, but is this really all I can do to help? I wonder if this is what Krillin feels like sometimes.” With a slight chuckle an epiphany hit me “There is one more thing you could help me with, but I don’t know if you’re up to it…” “Of course I am! You’re the one doing king Kai and all of us a favor so just name it and I’ll take care of it.” “Well if think you can handle it then very well. I have to sneak past king Yema, any chance you can distract him long enough for me to get away unseen?” He thought for a minute, it was odd seeing him so focused in thought. “I’ve got just the thing, wait here for a minute would you?” and with that he was gone, I hope he knows what he’s doing or it’s the Yema lock for the both of us. Before I had time to regret asking he had returned, with almost all the Z warriors in tow. I had no idea what they planning and feared they would try to storm the real world, at least I thought that until Gohan held up the soccer ball we’d been playing with. “Ok guys; let’s make it a good clean game!” With a cheer from everyone they rushed into king Yema’s office and started having a grand game of three dimensional soccer, they even managed to knock the king’s hat off before he got up and started chasing them out. Giving what was going on who can blame him for not noticing a small, nearly soundless android slipping through the legs under his desk and passing back through the archway… |
