“Are you sure this is what you want to do?” Gohan had asked her with a concerned look on his face. “I’ve personally trained with him before, it’s not as easy as it sounds.” ”No offense, Gohan, but I’m a full blooded Saiyan and an adult, considerably more trained than you were as a child. I doubt very much that it will be more than I can handle.” Reina replied setting those arms across her chest. The two fighters stood on the edge of a great divide, a large chasm in the ground that stretched farther down than the eye could see. On one side, where they were now, were trees and grass and lush ripe earth. On the other was a mountainous desert that stretched as far as the eye could see. “I’m just saying it won’t be easy. With Piccolo it never is.” Gohan rubbed the back of his head anxiously and glanced over the divide with wonderment. ”Well I won’t begin to presume it will be easy then. But the training will be very useful, something I don’t want to pass up before I leave Heaven.” Because it wouldn’t be long before the woman would be leaving, that she knew for sure. “Alright then. I can sense him and Dende straight out that way. You won’t be able to miss them.” Gohan motioned out to the North over the chasm and Reina followed his hand with a nod. “Thank you, Gohan.” Had been her reply and with a turn her body had illuminated red and she’d taken to flight over the large opening leaving Gohan to watch her leave. “Don’t thank me yet.” For the most part the desert on the opposite side was empty and devoid of life other than the sand and the large mountains that jutted up from the ground. It seemed so out of place there in Heaven that Reina was a bit taken aback by the intense heat and the bleak emptiness. What an odd sort of thing to be in Heaven. Reina had been flying for what had felt like hours. The lush world had been completely left behind on the horizon behind her and she was left wondering if maybe Gohan had been incorrect in the brief instructions he had given her. It didn’t seem likely but the woman was beginning to wonder. “Light Grenade!” The Namekian’s voice echoed out a few seconds before the energy sphere came shooting up towards her. Reina quickly rolled out of the way only to catch a ki blast square in the chest and go falling to the ground below. She had just enough time to orient herself before she landed feet first into the sand, hard enough to send it out in all directions and crater beneath her. Her body was smoking, a good portion of the front of her jacket lost in the attack. Reina had another moment to react before the Namekian was in front of her, his knee aimed up into her midsection. Reina’s hands had dropped to block the attack and slam her forehead up into the man’s nose hard enough she could hear the bones breaking against her skin. One step forward she slammed an elbow into his chest and spun on her foot to send a kick hard into his midsection. The Namekian flew backwards and slammed into the wall of a great cliff that jutted upwards at sharp angles. Reina paused for a moment taking a deep breath. It was safe to say she’d found the man she was looking for. “SPECIAL BEAM CANNON!” Reina cringed when she heard the man’s voice from the pit she’d buried him in. The golden energy came spiraling out towards her and Reina hit the ground hard to avoid it as it passed harmlessly overhead. Piccolo appeared over her then and pressed a foot to the back of her head, holding her into the ground. “You took your eyes off your enemy.” He said after a moment, pressing into her none too kindly. Reina could make out his face as she glanced up at him, purple blood dripping down out of his nose and mouth. Seemed she’d gotten a few good hits in after all. ”Not before I smacked your ass around a bit. Get off me.” Reina spat as she glared up at him. Piccolo lifted that foot and brought it down on her again, burying her face a bit deeper in the sand. “I’m assuming you came out here to train, not run your mouth.” Piccolo growled through grit teeth. “Mr. Piccolo. I think Gohan sent her.” Dende spoke up then, the shorter Namekian stepping forward and looking from his older teacher and down at the Saiyan woman. “It’s the only way she could have known where we are.” Piccolo sighed and lifted his foot off of her. Dende helped roll her onto her back before he held his hands out over her body, filling her with his ki and replenishing the wounds that Piccolo had caused. The sensation was different. She had remembered Aiden using something like it after she’d nearly died in the explosion against Rosencrantz. After a few moments she felt completely healed and opened her eyes to find Dende doing the same for Piccolo. The blood vanished from his face and his nose had returned to the normal pointed tip it usually was before Reina had nearly smashed it in. ”Yes, Gohan sent me. I’m here to train.” Reina picked herself up and dusted what was left of her jacket off. Piccolo crossed his arms over his chest and glared, Dende stood awkwardly between the two of them. “You have strength and talent, I won’t deny that, but I hardly think you understand what it means to fight as a team. You’re a Saiyan after all. If you’re like Vegeta you only know how to look out for yourself anyways.” To that, Reina said nothing. Because it was true in some regards. Reina had only ever fought on her own and didn’t understand the meaning of teamwork. “Let’s get started then.” ((1,017 Words)) |

“Again!” Piccolo called out as Reina had come to the end of that long climb and collapsed at the top of the great chasm. It wouldn’t have been so difficult, climbing from what had felt like the very bottom to the top if Piccolo hadn’t insisted she do it with Dende on her back. Not that the man was very heavy, or that she couldn’t handle the added weight with her incredible strength. But it had taken her nearly a day to climb from the bottom to the top, and after all of that all she could do was lay there, her muscles exhausted. “I think you may have killed her.” Dende said with a chuckle poking the woman in the back of the head. She was covered with sweat her body completely sore from top to bottom. “It’s not like anyone has ever made that climb in one day bef—“ “Dende! Shut up!” Piccolo howled as he knelt beside Reina and lifted her head. Her eyes were closed, obviously unconscious. With a sigh he reached his hands beneath her and picked her up, the woman limp in his arms. “Are you going to let her sleep?” Dende asked as he moved to walk beside Piccolo. “For now.” His voice was quiet as he pulled her against his chest and took off in flight, Dende close behind him. Reina woke sometime later curled on a cot in the corner of a dark cavern. It was considerably cooler here and with a sigh the woman drew herself up into a sitting position pulling the blanket off of herself. Her jacket had been pulled off and draped over a small chair beside the bed. She rubbed at her bare shoulders fingertips finding that scar that was so familiar to her. In this place though, the usual ache and pain that came with having the robotic arm didn’t plague her. She would miss that peace when she returned to the living world. “You’re awake!” Dende said with excitement as he moved farther into the cave to stand before her. Reina nodded and rubbed her forehead. It felt like she’d been asleep for hours. She was groggy and light headed. “Here, I brought you something to eat. It’s not much but it should hold you over.” Dende produced a tray and set it in front of her. At first she thought it might be some sort of concoction of noodles and rice, maybe some veggies and meat in there too, but when she brought it to her mouth she found it tasted similar to cardboard. She didn’t complain though. The woman was hungry and the more she ate the stronger she began to feel. “Mr. Piccolo is outside. He wanted me to bring you out when you’d woke up.” Dende continued, watching her eat. Reina finished rather quickly and stood up adjusting the lines of wraps around her midsection before nodding, ready to continue. Dende lead her farther out of the cavern and into the light where she could see Piccolo not far away, his body hovering just over the ground. Arms were over his chest, legs stretched Indian style. Something told her this was common for the Namekian. “She’s awake, Mr. Piccolo.” Dende said happily. “About time.” He opened his eyes to look up at the two of them before his feet found their way beneath him and he stood up. Piccolo pulled the long white weighted cloak and hat off letting them fall with a loud clunk to the sand beside him. “The two of you will fight me now. This exercise is about working together as a single unit. If you don’t, you won’t be able to hit me.” Reina and Dende shared an equally confusing look but both nodded, though truthfully Dende looked a little more puzzled. Though an adult now and far from the child he had been when he’d first met Piccolo he hadn’t anticipated this sort of lesson. He and Reina both called on their Ki as they powered up in preparation for the battle. Dende’s body spiraled in a honey orange color, Reina’s mirroring in red. Piccolo motioned for them both to move forward and before Dende could even take a step, Reina had vanished from sight appearing behind Piccolo a knee aimed for his spine. Much in the same matter, Piccolo had vanished leaving Reina to hit nothing but air and he’d appeared behind her a hand at the back of her head driving her face first into his knee. “What did I say? Team work! You can’t hope to attack unless you work together.” After a rough strike Piccolo shoved her back towards Dende where she landed in a bit of a heap at his feet. The male Namekian knelt and helped her up. “I think he’s right.” Dende said with a frown. “We’re going to have to find a way to do this together.” Reina sighed as he picked her back up and wiped a trail of blood from her nose before setting her arms at her sides. “How do you suggest we do that?” The man seemed to have some sort of idea as to the point of this entire fiasco. He leaned forward and whispered in the woman’s ear. Reina listened – The idea wasn’t bad mind you. It was far from the technique Reina was used to, but she couldn’t blame the guy. The idea wasn’t a bad one. Turning to face Piccolo again Reina set a hand on the man’s shoulder and lifted her fingertips to her forehead. The two vanished and Piccolo was left in silence. Reina was the first to appear wrapping those arms around Piccolo from behind and using her incredible strength to pin his arms up behind his head. Dende materialized a few moments after slamming a foot into the center of Piccolo’s chest. Dende dropped to his feet then on the ground and slammed fist after fist into Piccolo who struggled unable to break the woman’s strength. Then it ended with a burst of Ki that surrounded all three of them. When the light faded, Reina dropped an injured Piccolo to the ground where Dende was already at his side working to heal their mentor. ”Is that enough team work for you?” ((1,048 Words)) |
