Earth's New Champion

The trip down the lustrous Snake Way was not something Aiden took kindly. He had been killed so it usually left a sour spot on you after all. This was no noble sacrifice. He did not jump in the way of a car to push some little kid out of the way. He didn’t give his life to take a bullet from a friend. No, he was murdered. It was pure intent and he was on the receiving end of it. And the worst part about it? Reina was still in harm’s way and he was powerless to do anything about it. “I said let me go, damn it! I’ve got to get back! I have to stop him! He’ll kill her! What the heck is the matter with you people?!” “What do you mean, ‘you people’?” one of the orges carting Aiden by the arm asked. “What do you mean, ‘you people’?” replied the orge on Aiden’s other arm toward the first, somehow offended by the words spoken. Aiden all the while was losing his damn mind in regards to these orges and their nonchalant attitude. Did no one care that a monster like Rosencrantz had been let out under their watch? Did they not take responsibility for it? Aiden was cheated out of his life because of it and now Reina would be to. Finally, after struggling enough against the seemingly unstoppable orges (it must be the location - they were imbued with some strength that Aiden could not over come) he finally surrendered to them and allowed them to drag him down Snake Way. After twenty minutes of not fighting back their grip slackened on him and he finally got them off. Sadly they happened to be falling into Hell now. Sorry. Aiden was not in the mood to play around and the orges were in the wrong place at the wrong time. At least they can still get out unlike other unfortunate souls. Once able to now, Aiden shot upward toward the sky. Glowing in an impressive display of golden hue with that aura flaring around him he shot down Snake Way in a hurried rush so that he could reach his destination faster than just walking. Why? Because he held one simple hope in mind. The Dragonballs. They were used to revive Goku before when he had been killed and was needed to protect people. There were ways to beat the system. Rosencrantz was living (literally) proof of that. So if he only kept his mind focused and did whatever he could he knew it would not be the end. He would get out of this after life prison and get back to the land of the living in order to take Rosencrantz down yet again. But he feared he may not have the time needed to get to him before he went after Reina.. The thought of such urged him faster. He zipped down that winding path faster than before intent on getting to that end location. King Kai’s planet Yema had mentioned. Where he might find some solace. Aiden was a good soul the orge king had said and he would be rewarded for his deeds by being given a chance to keep his body and train with one of the greatest masters in the known North Galaxy. Yeah, because that was going to stifle his anger. “When I get out of here I swear I’m going to tear that bastard limb from limb even if I have to go through an entire solar system just to do so,” he said under his breath as he dashed faster through the air. Eventually Aiden came into view of that small planet in the distance. It grew larger as he approached and soon enough he fell onto its surface. The weight change was his first noted difference. “Point me in the direction of King Kai. I’m not here to waste any time!” he shouted to whoever would listen. From out of the house present came a stout man with a big belly and long, bushy black hair. A sword was sheathed at his side and he looked rather ugly by all accounts. His size was none to be desired either given its small nature and unimpressive demeanor. “Uh, who’s there? Who’s making all that noise? Some of us are trying to sleep!” the man replied. He looked human from what Aiden could tell. A raised brow was given from Aiden while he did his best to calm himself down. “You must be… King Kai I take it? Tell me, what can you do for me to make me stronger? I need to get stronger so I can protect my friends. Teach me whatever you possibly can.” Yajirobe looked at Aiden with a confused expression. Had this new and unknown fighter really mistaken him for King Kai? Why, they hardly looked anything alike. Sure they were both a bit round and rather short. They also wore the same after shave and they had a similar sense of humor but the similarities stopped there. Of course, Aiden had no way of knowing anything about King Kai. Yema was rather short with him on the whole affair so he wasn’t exactly given all the details. So with the knowledge in hand that Aiden had indeed assumed Yajirobe was in fact King Kai he wondered what to do with this information. There was a number of chores he had to do around the place and it might not be such a terrible idea to get someone else to do them for him. Which was perfect given the new fighter’s confusion. A grin flashed on his lips before Yajirobe cleared his throat and spoke up in the best deep voice he could muster. “Yes, yes. I am the great and powerful King Kai. Cross me at your own peril mortal!” Not something Aiden imagined King Kai to say. Of course, there were only stories. He had no idea what the real man could be like so he was bound to get a lesson in reality. “You look human. That’s kind of surprising. I heard you were blue or something.” “Uh…” sweat beaded at the man’s brow and he looked back and forth as he tried to come up with a saving lie. “I uh… er… I choose to look this way. For your sake. I picked a form that would better suit your acceptance of me! Hah hah hah!” he chuckled, both hands on that burly stomach of his. Aiden wasn’t quite sure what to make of this ‘King Kai’ but he wasn’t one to question him if the legends were true. “Fair enough. So I must ask that you humbly train me. I need your strength if I’m to return in order to kill Rosencrantz.” “Kill who?” Yajriboe Kai asked, unsure of what Aiden was talking about. “You’re able to see the events of the living world unfold and you’re telling me you don’t know who Rosencrantz is? I take it you don’t know who I am either, huh? The guy who saved Earth from Foon? Ring any bells?” Yajirobe was nearly caught again. So soon, too. Either Aiden was exceptionally sharp or Yajirobe’s lie wasn’t all that good. Most likely the latter. Gulping he waved his hands in front of his face while sweating more. “Right, right, I know who he is! I just… I found him of no importance when compared to my uh… awesome power!” Boy, Yajirobe really lays it on thick doesn’t he? Aiden wasn’t going to complain though. While odd and a little egotistical if King Kai could teach him the skills he needed to get stronger he would gladly do whatever the man asked. Crossing both arms over his chest he calmly waited for the man’s orders. “So what do I need to do? I want to get started right away.” Yajirobe thought of all the tasks he had at hand and tried to figure which one might be the best one to have the kid start with. There was washing King Kai’s car or reshackling the roof. And lets not forget cleaning up after Bubbles. That was always a task he dreaded. But he drew the short straw this week so he was the one helping out King Kai around his planet. But Aiden’s timing was too perfect… “Uh, lets see. Well, in order to become stronger you’ll need to be humbler. It makes sense, right? Because the more focused you are in your own understanding of worth against those around you the more uh.. strength you have in battle. Yeah!” Sounded like bullshit, actually. But who was Aiden to question the great Kai? Sighing softly and dropping his hands he had the feeling he was bound to be in for some tedious work indeed. “Alright, whatever. How do I go about humbling myself here? It doesn’t exactly sound like a complicated idea.” Aiden asked King Kai. The ‘Kai’ was smirking in response. “How good are you with a sponge?” [ Word Count: 1,508 ] |

Earth's New Champion

There were times when you had a feeling someone was pulling a fast one on you. When you were told that item you bought was a collector’s item and signed by Mr. Satan himself (yet done with a crayon) was one of those times. When you were given a bowling ball with five stars taped to it and told it was a dragon ball was one of those times. When you were sitting there washing a man’s car and being told you were somehow going to be stronger for it? You’d think that’d also be one of those times. Yet here was Aiden with sponge in hand. His mind however was completely distracted of course. He kept thinking of Rosencrantz back on Yardrat. The last words that he heard before that attack came at him. ‘Your mother’s a whore and I’m going to kill your girlfriend’ - something along those lines. But Reina wasn’t dumb. Nor was Gil. They would sense his disappearance and they would leave for safety, right? … Reina was a Saiyan. And her connection to Aiden was not something she would be able to just toss aside. No, she wouldn’t run. She would seek out whoever did him in and try to enact vengeance. As sweet as that was he knew it wasn’t what he wanted. He wanted her to live. He wanted her to be safe. The idea that Rosencrantz could be hunting her right now was driving him crazy. Or worse, he could have found her and been hurting her. Or even worse. She could be on her way here at this very moment. And what was he doing about all of this? Washing a fucking car. “Ugh, I’ve had it! This isn’t helping, damn it!” Aiden shouted before throwing that sponge to the ground and whirling around. There was ‘King Kai’ lounging in a lawn chair with an umbrella over head and a glass of lemonade in hand. The thick pair of shades he wore and the bit of sun screen by his nose made him look even more ridiculous than normal. However, he seemed not be phased at all by Aiden’s outburst. “How is this supposed to make me stronger? How am I going to take on Rosencrantz now? Give him a buff shine? Wash the shit out of his hair?! Tell me!” Aiden’s anger surprised him. He had been more and more outwardly fierce lately. It all started with that new transformation of his. A level of power he had never dreamed imaginable. And it was so uncontrollable. If refused to use it in his fight against Rosencrantz and it cost him his life. He couldn’t afford to do that again. He had to gain control of his growing strength and hidden inner power. King Kai was supposed to help. Instead he made a joke of Aiden this entire time. “I thought you were supposed to be some legendary trainer. What gives?!” His face flashed his annoyance and his eyes were like daggers as he looked at Yajirobe. The stout human swung from that chair and tumbled back over it almost in a cowering fashion. “Alright, alright. You uh… you pass for now. You saw through the unseethroughable. That means you’re ready for the next step, heh heh.” Yajirobe was so going to get an ass whooping once Aiden found out the truth so the most he could do was get the best out of him, right? Besides, Goku would hold this Aiden character back if things got out of hand right? “The next task will require a bit more patience than what I’ve already tasked of you. It requires determination, precision, and most importantly… love.” “Love?” Okay, that was unexpected. “Yes. You’re going to grow something for me. Er, I mean, for yourself. It’ll help you when you fight by giving you your strength back. They’re called-” he was cut off by Aiden’s quick response, however. “Senzu beans. Like these, right?” he asked before reaching into that pouch on his left side and removing a medium size storage capsule. Popping it open with a press of a button he retrieved two beans from inside. One was completely whole while the other was only a small fraction of a bean. Showing them to Kai he cocked his head to the side. “You want me to learn how to grow these?” “Uh, wow. Surprised you had some. And you said you died? What did you forget about them or something? Jeez..” Aiden grumbled. “I didn’t exactly have time to eat one when a giant ball of death was going to blow up me and the planet I was on!” Yajirobe rose his hands up in a defensive manner and smiled weakly. “Sorry, sorry. Touchie subject. I get it. You don’t want to talk about it. But uh, yeah. Those beans your holding are really rare and are quite the item here. Plus, when you do get back to the living world like you say you’re going to-” not that Yajirobe believed that for one bit, why would one want to get out of heaven after all? It’s heaven! “-you’ll need them. If you partake in this part of the training you’ll be able to keep one of them. How does that sound?” What other choice did Aiden have anyway? Sighing he nodded his head and followed ‘King Kai’ into the household. They walked through the small abode and out the back door (why couldn’t they just walk around?) before moving over to a garden on the left side of the backyard. The garden was filled with various exotic plants that most likely came from worlds Aiden had never heard of (he watched over the entire North Galaxy right?). He looked toward a patch of dry soil that was recently plowed and could only assume it was where the beans were to be grown. Looking at ‘King Kai’ the man nodded his head and then turned to head back toward the house. Aiden called out quickly, “Hey, wait! What am I supposed to do? I don’t know how to grow these things!” “Hey, that’s your problem bro. I’m not hear to show you everything just teach you.” “….” That made absolutely no sense. “It’s up to you to figure this one out. Consider it a true test of wits.” And then the door slammed. He could hear a television turning on faintly and some laughter coming from within. Somehow Aiden had the feeling he was beginning screwed over again. Aiden decided the first task he would need is to gather some water. But where would he do that here? Looking around he spotted a small pond on the other side of the planet (which doesn’t sound as weird when given the context) before heading over to gather some. When he returned, however, he was surprised to find a man standing by the garden looking it over. He had his hands tucked behind his back in a black robe of sorts and his head was bowed forward as he peered at the various plants through thick rimmed glasses. The color of his skin was a pale, azure tone and he had twin antennae sticking from the crown of his head just under a black hat. “Hey, you there. Get away from King Kai’s garden!” Aiden shouted quickly as he ran over to deal with the intruder. The blue man looked at Aiden with a puzzled expression before bringing both hands forward and waving with one of them. “Hello there. Come to train with the great King Kai have you?” the man asked. “I already have been. Though to be honest, this King Kai character is a joke. He’s ugly, smells bad, is kind of dumb, and doesn’t have a single clue about martial art. I don’t even know what I’m doing here…” “Oh is he now?” the blue man remarked, a chuckle breaking from his lips. “Yeah, he has me trying to grow these senzu beans over here and I don’t even know where to begin. What does this have to do with training anyway?” Aiden asked in annoyance before slumping down to the ground beside the garden. “Everything my boy. Through care and nurturing another you begin to grasp the understanding that life is precious. It’s an understanding that, when fully understood, can grant you access to life’s power. It’s the very key point to the unstoppable Spirit Bomb!” Aiden was surprised to hear this fellow had a head for this sort of thing. Was he one of King Kai’s pupils? Looking at the beans and then back at the blue figure he shrugged. “Okay, well, what do I need to do to get this going?” “Well, first you…” ----------------- Aiden spent most of the afternoon with the blue man tending to the garden. When he was done he could actually see a sprout breaking from the soil. They grew faster than he had imagined. A smile on his lips he thanked the man whole heartedly before going in to fetch ‘King Kai’. “Oh I see you’ve done a good job. How did you manage to--” Yajirobe paused when he saw the real King Kai standing there, grinning. “I.. uh… oh crap,” he finished before slumping. He was so busted now, wasn’t he? “What is it King Kai?” The real King Kai broke out into laughter now. He always enjoyed a good joke but this one was too much to pass up. To think Aiden actually thought Yajirobe was in fact a Kai? Some people were just too gullible. “I believe the person you’re looking for, young man…” He stood up straight and expressed his full stature. “…is me.” [ Word Count: 1,616 ] |
