Earth's New Champion
|
The time passed rather quickly for Aiden thanks to the art of both bukujutsu and the Yardratian’s Shunkan Ido or Instant Transmission. He had managed to arrive at the tower instantly with the aid of that teleportation technique after focusing on the ki signatures around the tower such as the various plant and animal life. Once he was at the base of the massive thing he paused only a moment to take in its scope before whistling outwardly. “Sugoi… it’s huge. I can’t imagine anyone climbing this thing by themselves,” Aiden remarked before thinking of the advantage he’d have. The ground beneath his feet suddenly began to drift away from him as his body rose upward. He held firm in that position for a half second before that golden hue burst out around his body. His clothing rippled in the force of it and his hair blew wildly. Another half second would pass before his body shot skyward like a bullet intended for its target - the top of the tower. Once he had arrived, Aiden took a moment to view the scenery. There was a lush garden growing with a large entry way that seemed to lead deeper into some type of abode. If legends were true the one inside would be none other than the inhabitant of this tower himself, Korin. Garath had climbed this tower in the past and had met the man in the flesh but he failed to mention much about him or his appearance. In Aiden’s mind he imagined an old and wise hermit with a beard twice as long as his body and a receding hair line dressed in elaborate robes of purple silk and wielding incredible magic power. Despite this idea held in Aiden’s mind the reality was far different. When he first opened those large wooden doors and stepped within the abode of the legendary Korin he found not a wise hermit of incalculable age but rather a different figure altogether. The first thought the human had was that there was a cat standing on his hind legs carrying a walking stick. Blinking those brown hues he cocked his head slightly and looked on in confusion. “Wow, Korin’s cat is something else. Can’t wait to see what the real guy looks like,” he said as he stared the cat over in wonder. The walking cat looked at him and seemed to return Aiden’s deep stare. There was an awkward silence that fell between the two before Aiden’s annoyance got the better of him. “Oi, what are you staring at you mangy fur ball?” the fighter mouthed while feeling rather dumb in the process. The idea that the cat might actually respond was foolish and silly after all. “Oh I was just wondering when you might speak up. The first thing I ask of people when they climb my tower is for their name.” Aiden paused there for a moment. His mind tried to struggle with the idea of such a feat. Yes, he had just heard the cat talk. Bounding back he crashed into some expensive looking furniture before raising both hands up in a defensive manner and looking shocked. “Whoa! A talking cat!” Garath had never mentioned this aspect of the great Korin before. Assuming this was indeed the real Korin. Aiden still wasn’t entirely sure. But it did seem likely considering he addressed the place as his tower. Gulping some and dropping his arms down, Aiden bowed his head forward. “I uh… I’m sorry. My name is Aiden Endaril. I’ve come looking for Garath. You know him, right? I had heard he was on his way here and wasn’t sure if he had arrived yet,” Aiden said solemnly. “Garath? Yes, he already left. We had a discussion about worldly events. Namely the appearance of that dragon ball at that tournament. I’m sure you’ve heard about it?” Korin remarked, cocking a fur-covered eyebrow. Aiden nodded his head. Knowing he had missed Garath he seemed ready to leave as he did not wish to waste the cat’s time any longer. However, he wasn’t sure if he was supposed to just go like this. After all he had climbed up here and assumed there was some sort of test to take, right? “So are you supposed to give me some type of reward?” Aiden asked. “And what makes you think you’re worthy of a reward, Aiden?” Korin responded cooly with a bemused expression on his cat face. “Well, I came all the way up here, right? Don’t I get something out of it?” Korin tapped his large staff against the ground and slowly walked his way over to a small compartment. With a wave of his hand the compartment sprung open and inside held a bottle with a silver stopper and some liquid within. Retrieving it, Korin held it up in the air and motioned for Aiden to take a look. “I know what that is. You’ve given that to people who were worthy in strength and character to take it and who needed it to grow stronger, right?” Aiden asked although he already knew the answer. “That’s right my boy. But it’s not free. You have to work for it.” “Okay so what do I have to do? Slay a dragon? Build a bridge? Sail across the world?” Each idea Aiden listed off seemed more radical but feasible when the reward at hand was considered. The response, however, caught him off guard. “Don’t be silly. That’s dangerous. If you want this sacred water you’ll have to catch me!” Korin responded. That cane of his was tossed aside instantly and the cat took off in a sudden dash, disappearing deeper into the abode before Aiden could even register what the cat was talking about. He blinked. That was it? Placing his fingers to his forehead he focused in on that strange cat’s unique ki signature. Within a flash he disappeared and reappeared before the furball before a hand snatched out and grabbed the bottle from his grasp. “Do I win?” [ Word Count: 1,008 ] |
